Lokkan Of The Long Hall
Not too worried to be honest, although Mephiston is a monster, because we knew they'd be ferocious nutters. Thing is they can only play one way, running flat out towards us, whereas we are flexible, adaptable and almost as awesome close up. Njarl, Murderous Hurricane and Tempests Wrath should come into they're own. Frontline989
Lone Wolf tarpit is nice in theory, but it'll be a bit iffy. You'll need a 4+ to hit. If you hit; S4 wounds Meph on a 6, S5 wounds on 5+, S8 wounds on 2+. So you'll pretty much have to kit out the LW with a TH or a PF to have a hope of wounding. Then there's the whole I1 A2 vs I7 A5 thing...so basically you're spending nearly 100 pts...just for a slim hope of landing a wound on someone with W5. He'll hit on a 3+ and wound on 2+. Not to mention all the other dudes that'll be running alongside him. Or his gnarly psychic powers...or his awesome wargear. Im not really worried about trying to kill him. Seems maybe more trouble than its worth. Just keep away from him as best as possible. MaveriK
So is it true that their Land Raiders are fueled by RED BULL? well, as suggested.. Murderous Hurricane, and Tempest Wrath will help allot, but I'm also thinking maybe Fenrisian Wolves would fit in that category to help slow down the Eldar equivalent like new Blood Angels Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194024-finally-someone-worth-fighting/page/3/#findComment-2307332 Share on other sites
The Good Ship Naglfar
Also its rumored his NOT and IC .............................man Matt ward really has the nerves to write something like this............and him only......... You may be confusing him with Lemartes. It sounds like the Guardian of the Lost is now an upgrade character for the Death Company, which makes a lot of sense to me. Even if he is an independent character, it's gonna be tricky to defeat Meph with shooting. I'm probably gonna try, but I expect a challenge. Lord Ragnarok
Well we do have cheap tarpit units. With being able to charge 12 inches and fleet maybe they'll be a good choice. Walter Payton
I heard that Mephiston is not an Independant character, which means: Singled out by fire No ablative shields, you can target him and him alone I will treat him as I treat a Bloodthirster or a winged Hive Tyrant/Termigoon/whatever. Shoot him, send a tarpit unit. Also, Arjac ain't an IC, to my knowldege, so that can help. Use Wolf-Tail talismans on Wolf Guards with powerfists. He is far from unkillable-drop a few demo templates or lascannon rounds/krak missiles on him and then charge him. I am not worriedby him at all. I also (correct me if I'm wrong) hear that he has no Inv save, so a few Thunder hammers and power fists should see the bugger off! Hard to kill? Certainly, and he should be. Impossible to kill? No, not by any stretch of the imagination. When I heard "Not an independent character", I assumed that he would like Arjac or that pesky cyborg commander (Stryker, I think) from the Imperial Guard. Hide him in a group, and there's no way to single him out. But if he's more like a monstrous creature or a Lone Wolf, then that makes him a lot less frightening. Potent, yes, but not terrifying. Stormshrug
World wolf. Thankfully, he doesn't have a Jump Pack, so such shenanigans still work. Emperor's Scourge
JotWW will be virtually worthless. He's got initiative value of 7. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194024-finally-someone-worth-fighting/page/3/#findComment-2307885 Share on other sites
JamesI
JotWW will be virtually worthless. He's got initiative value of 7. Its as useful against Mephiston as most ICs (I5 or higher). Though Mephiston will likely have a psychic hood to shut it down. Tyron
Yeah, you always fail on a 6. I think a lot of people are forgetting he can hide behind units making it hard to hit him. If he is really 250pts then that really is a slap to SW players as he is harder and cheaper than Logan. I think a unit of TWC could take him out with some lucky rolls and the thunder hammer bringing him down to I1, or a tooled up wolf lord with a mount, thunder hammer, ss...the works. Possibly a rune priest with saga of the beastslayer and some lucky rolls. Like people said best to avoid him and pick off as much of their army as possible so you will have less to deal with and then send in all your units on him. HERO
but i doubt arjak will have a chance hitting back............. I take 10 Grey Hunters w/ 2 Meltaguns, MotW, and Arjac in a LRC. Stormshrug
I've never used JotWW personally, but wouldn't it ONLY hit him on a 6? Sure, but JotWW frequently has a low chance to hit; worthwhile targets are often those with high Initiative. It's true that the psychic hood aggravates the situation, to be sure. It depends what else is going on, of course, but there are plenty of circumstances where I'd take the shot, even expecting it to fail. The payout is pretty massive, so while it's not a contingency I'd rely on, it could easily break a game in your favor if the dice did happen to work out and you were then able to put your other firepower elsewhere. -Stormshrug Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194024-finally-someone-worth-fighting/page/3/#findComment-2308034 Share on other sites
Quillen
Hard to kill? Certainly, and he should be. Impossible to kill? No, not by any stretch of the imagination. It's only a warlord titan? Hard to kill? Certianly. But not invincable. lol Come on man. I would pay more for Logan and he would get spanked. Which was the problem with the PDF of him. Over powered for his points. Now even more over powered for his points. You know he will be in a Land Raider of some type and then charge out and kill everything in sight. For you noobies, welcome to 2nd edition 40k. AKA Heroe Hammer. Where your heroe walks across the board and kills everything. Unless you roll really bad against another heroe. I miss 4th edition codexs so freaking bad now. Simi blanced lists where the troops won the battles. Hfran Morkai
All vehicules EXCEPT the Land Raider is fast! so at least theres one Tank thats still as slow as ever! But their Land Raiders can deep-strike, imagine a Redeemer turning up right next to your units and proceeding to melt them, with the inevitable cargo of doom. And I've heard they are taken as dedicated transports. This isnt that leaked PDF that was found to be totally bogus was it? Nope, we're seeing real codex material now due to a lot of places having the black box in. I also find it curious how it always seems we're pretty much the only forum discussing each new release and how to kill it off the bat. Wispy
The lack of IC and invulnerable save make Mephiston a big 250 point meh. Njal is a better Psyker any day of the week, and can use his vast variety of powers and his 3+ psychic power negation to give Mephiston the biggest head ache in the world - shut down wings of Sanguinius, and then he has to walk. If that monster ever gets into assault, he's going to be riddled with bullet holes and isn't going to last more then a round. Arjac can give him the biggest headache in the world because he's hidden and Mephiston can't target him. With so many fast vehicles and deepstriking land raiders... Tempest's Wrath is becoming the order of the week, I guess. So the land raiders have teleport beacons or anything to eliminate scatter or ? because land raiders are pretty big, and they can scatter over a wide variety of things pretty easy. Deepstriking them is risky. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194024-finally-someone-worth-fighting/page/3/#findComment-2308127 Share on other sites
