Space Wolves and battle missions

Well Battle Missions is here and it's going to take some getting used to.

Yesterday a friend and I threw our two 750 pt Space Wolf forces against a 1500 pt Ork list in a "Cut and Run" mission.

(We're aiming for doubles next year so need any practice)

The name of the game is killpoints but is more interesting than regular annihilation.

HQ choices are worth 3 kill points each

Troops and dedicated transports are 1 KP

Everything else is 2

This could pose a problem to SW forces as our HQ's are just too good not to take, but being worth so much it pays to be conservative, balancing effectiveness vs worth to the enemy.

I'm not sure about deployment but on a 6x4 board you're looking at 12 inch deployment for the non-Orks. Orks have to deploy a minimum of twelve inches from their table edge and I think there's some other restrictions as well (I didn't get a look at the book XD)

One dice is rolled to see who gets first turn.

Unfortunately half of our force was drop pod reliant and left my 750 pts to be targeted by the entire Ork horde for the first turn

In our game the Ork side got first turn and their Trukk mounted mobs ran into a pack of my Long Fangs, wiping them out to a man and costing us two kill points straight up. From then on it switched back and forth between who was in the lead with us snatching a win in the final couple of turns with a four killpoint victory.

It was tense and well fought on both sides, a lot of dice were fluffed by all three players.

We are lucky that Grey Hunters are such good troops choices though, because you want to minimize kill points available.

Anyone else tried out other missions, got advice fo the Wolves?

the kill point variation is what they did for last years hard boyz if you remember, except hqs were worth 5 points. the missions are to have fun any less than that and you should stay with regular missions.

the heroic duel is one i really look forward to against my dark angel adversary.
