Cyclone Missile Launchers

Recommended Posts

I'm curious as to whether there are any fluff references to being used during the Heresy because I'm planning on a Terminator list and Cyclones would be my LRAT.

Cheers

I think there were, certainly the HH Collected Visions book depicts some Ultras with them.

Concerning Cyclones:

As with so much concerning the Horus Heresy, the fluff is contradictory.

Some people/sources (please don't ask me which, I can't remember) say that many many weapons used in the 41st Millenium weren't around during the Heresy, including the Cyclone missile launcher, because it was part of the ongoing terminator project which was only in its first stages by the time of the Heresy. During the Heresy, it appears terminators were equipped thus:

- Tactical Dreadnought Armour (MkI "Cataphractii", MkII, MkIII?)

- Twin-linked bolter (as used by the Chaos terminators in the 41st Millenium)

- Close Combat Weapon/Power Weapon

- Lightning/Power Claws

- Power Fists

- Reaper Autocannon

- Heavy Flamer

Apparently, weapons such as the assault cannon, the stormbolter, and the Cyclone missile launcher were in development, possibly in their Alpha- or Beta-Stadiums, and were possibly being tested.

On the other hand, the Horus Heresy: Collected Visions as usual is very liberal when it comes to euipment, armour patterns, colour schemes, and much else, and is rather inconsistent. The same goes for the (otherweise excellent) Horus Heresy book series:

- There is a picture of Ultramarine Terminators in Cataphractii armour using Cyclone missile launchers

- There is a picture of a Squad of normal Marines hefting the massive assault cannons

- In "Horus Rising" (or "False Gods", can't remember which), Abaddon is mentioned having a stormbolter

Conclusion:

Make up your own mind who to believe and what to do. If I were you I'd go the middle way and include said experimental weapons in VERY small numbers (say, 1 stormbolter and 1 Cyclone missile launcher for the entire army), possibly altering the rules for them a bit to make them less effective (they are, after all, experimental weapons).

Hope that helped! :)
