Wolf Lord Loki
Hi all, I asked this question in the Amicus forum but I thought I'd ask again here as its kind of more a Space Wolf thing. I've seen Spectre Hobbies advertising a model that would be ideal for a Thunderwolf (See their 'thundewolf' model). Seeings I live in the UK, I'm asking if anyones got any experience of ordering from these people, before I consider going out on a limb and ordering them in. I think they might be likely to get a visit from the IP hammer at some point so I'd like to make a desission quickly. Cheers Guys Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194122-spectre-hobbies/ Share on other sites
stinkenheim
in dont like the look of it. it looks like a poorly converted Canis... but hey, its not a bad size and if you need a unit of them then it your call. nevr heard of the company though. MaveriK
agreed with wolf brother stinkenheim, the upper part of the wolf is allot larger than the rest of its body... it doesn't look proportional, makes it looks silly Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194122-spectre-hobbies/#findComment-2307544 Share on other sites
Greywolf
Not sure if its the scuplt or the poor pic, but it does look disproportional. Would love to see a better pic of this though. Ragnars Claw
Looks like a blood crusher with fur sculpted on... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194122-spectre-hobbies/#findComment-2307581 Share on other sites
stinkenheim
this is it at a better size ratio... http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/Untitled-1.jpg @ ragnars claw thats exactly what it is. thats why the shoulders look so large, they didn't even bother trying to trim it down before sculpting some fur over the top. the tail looks like its taken from canis (either moulded or simply snipped). really dislike the execution myself, and i dislike it when companies do not show pictures of either the unpainted model (be it the green or the resin cast like maximinis and avatars of war do) or fully painted shots like GW. its lazy and leads me to wonder if this is something that they took from a WIP shot by some random guy on the internet. not saying they did but its distinctly poor form in my opinion to not show a model you are trying to sell in either its finished form or the way it will appear when you recieve it. Coverfire
Need a better picture to judge, but I have recently ordered the thunder wolf models that are used by MechSpaceWolf and sold on ebay by mrs_velard (or similar spelling) and awaiting their arrival. I hope they are suitable as I paid $12USD each. If the Spectre Miniatures models prove to be a good choice I may use them for Thunderwolf Mounts and the ones on ebay as Thunderwolf Cavalry. I would still like Forgeworld to come to the party though, as some tournaments may frown on using non GW products. Arcus
i got my "velard" wolves just the other day. as i opened the pack i could hear my army cheering in the background hehe i can say they are GREAT models for us, the only issue being there is only one type  however i am thankfull to have any model at all that actually looks like it belongs ( i do hate canis' wolf/cow hybrid btw) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194122-spectre-hobbies/#findComment-2308005 Share on other sites
Godhead
I ordered two from Ms Velard awhile back and recently ordered 4 more. They are great models and I agree with what was stated above, in that my only disappointment is that there is only one pose. I had thought about getting 1 or 2 of the max mini wolves to add some diversity, but I don't really like the model much from what i've seen. I'd love it if someone that has it would post a couple of pics up so I (we or anyone else) could compare all of the few available options. LakotaWolf
i dont know how many of you have canis http://www.angelfire.com/nc3/blackgold/canis.jpghttp://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/Untitled-1.jpg i think if you want continuity and you want thunderwolves to look alike you got to checkout spectres work Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194122-spectre-hobbies/#findComment-2308240 Share on other sites
Arcus
i just cant help but think those wolves are a bit too big. canis is a special character, and his wolf is just as unique as he is. the way i see it is that normal thunderwolves are a bit smaller "...reaching as much as eight feet at the shoulder", while Fangir is apparently the biggest thunderwolf ever.... big as an ice troll (wow got my geek on here: If i remember right, from the rangar novels they fight an ice troll 10 feet tall?) anyway hes huge even for a thunderwolf. i also opine that a standard t-wolf should fit on a cavalry/beast base rather then a MC one, Canis being the heroic exception. even though i dislike the model ill be aquiring Canis at some point, and i think the inconsitency will just serve to show how freaking insane that guy is compared to the rest... i do wish GW would clean up thier mess one way or another *sigh* hmm i hope i dont sound argumentative or anything, just stating my take on our cute li'l pups :tu: -Arcus Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194122-spectre-hobbies/#findComment-2308408 Share on other sites

rodgers37
that is a bloodcrusher model with green stuff furr and the tail from wolfborn if I have ever seen one. end of story. Now you've said that, i think it really does look like a bloodcrusher... So why would they bother doing that? Hfran Morkai
that is a bloodcrusher model with green stuff furr and the tail from wolfborn if I have ever seen one. end of story. Now you've said that, i think it really does look like a bloodcrusher... So why would they bother doing that? It claims to be cast in resin, so perhaps they made a mould from a Bloodcrusher, which I believe might be illegal, considering they are selling it. Or someone was heavily influenced by the Bloodcrusher, though it looks too similar. Someone care to take a photo of Bloodcrusher from the same angles? And are they selling it as a "Thunderwolf"? If so they've just beat GW's IP Either that or it's not what you're going to get. rodgers37
yeah, why have GW not sued them yet? they even say its for Space wolves...... your not allowed to do anything like that, so how have this lot got away with it (and possible using/ at least copying one of there models as well) for at least a couple of months Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194122-spectre-hobbies/#findComment-2309152 Share on other sites
wolvesoffenris
I purchased and built four of those models. They are pretty good. I posted a topic about it on my FLGS forum. http://gigabitescafe.com/forum/index.php?topic=2237.0 There are some pictures on there of them fully built. Hfran Morkai
haha They've put a space in it, meaning it's not GW IP, however considering the dodgy basis/influence of this model I'd steer clear. Evilbob
Bought a few of these the other day, my package arrived today and they only shipped 5 of the 6 I ordered and to boot the ones I got looked like this: Big friggin holes in the legs and feet from air pockets in the resin.
