Mixed armor for wolf guard?

Is it effective to have 3 terminators, 3-4 wg in power armor and if 3, a character, transported in a Land Raider? That way when someone shoots at you, you can let the cheaper power armored marines take ap2 weapons and such, and let the terminators try to save ap3 weapons?

Wrong about the numbers there.. edit..

So far, no. But my next army will be a Logan led army built around units like that. The PA guys are relatively cheap meat shields against enemy plasma and the like and they bulk out the number of basic attacks you get to help deal with poorly armoured hordes (orks, hormagaunts, guard etc.).

I've got a squad of termie WG that travel with Logan in a Landraider - 2 with Wolf Claw/CombiMelta, 1 with Wolf Claw/Combiplas and 1 either Arjak or with a Hvy Flamer/Chainfist.

I'm seriously thinking of pursuing the course your pointed out as most of the time the extra WG termies are fodder to keep Logan and Arjak alive.

Logan

2 Termi with Ass cannon and Chain Fists (Anti Anything)

1 Termie with WC/SB (To eat AP 3 Shots but sometimes I run Arjak here)

4 PA with PW/BP (Pure Kill)

2 PA with BP/SS (Meat Shields) to eat ap 2 hits)

2 PA CCW/BP (Red SHirts To Die First)

So you can eat anything without touching the core unit, have crap ton a PW attacks, and Logan and PW/PF as needed... This Unit makes me 2 to 3 times its points per game easy, and has NEVER lost...

I don't want to hijack this thread but is this legal?? Numbers make 11 but squad would be 3 - 10, or are they used as two squads?? One reason I ask is I also want to run a Wolf Guard Pack with mixed armour. Some with PA to use as pack leaders and the rest to come in with Logan himself.

Could I also ask how you would transport these becuse as one pack they would have to footslog

For Russ

DGC

"4 PA with PW/BP (Pure Kill)" is just a typo it should read 3. You have to equal 10 wolfguard but can use all 16 slots in the LRC, just remember to take enough soak to eat up woulds without costing you PW attacks or to many points if you can help it...

bit to answer your question there is no way to run 2 squads in 1 LRC that I know of...

I think 3 termies and 4 marines in a drop pod, instead of a land raider (a big diffirence in points there) would be effective and cool.

2 termies with assault cannons and chain fists

1 termie with storm shield and wolf claw

1 marine with storm bolter and storm shield

1 marine with plasma pistol

2 normal marines.

Is it bad if this drop pod is the one that arrives on the first turn? was thinking of letting the rest of the army run across the field. Is it better to have a grey hunter unit in a droppod and letting the wolf guard unit arive later, perhaps when the rest of the army gets close to the enemy?

edit, also, can droppods miss the table entirerly if you drop in close to the board edge?

Token,

I have tried the droppods with mixed armor and find they don't carry enough "Meat" or firepower. Though they do get you very close to start you lose the charge on the way out the door. Yes it saves you points, but you don't have you big nasty frist with all the guns backing you up, and AV 14 all around to hide in if need be. I also can't stress enough the difference between 16 capacity and 10, as those 6 extra bodies (or slots) give you a full 60% more wounds or MORE (if you take SC's or IC's)...

I love to drop in a single GH pack in Pod turn 1, but I add a WG at the cost of 1 melta. So far they have been able to dig in and hold the line till my raider breaks through.

Then Again I like 2 Pods turn 1 and the radier on the field, with a follow up pod of WG in my Logan list, and a couple of Typhoon/Melta speeders

So far I am 19/0 with the new dex, but only 11/0 with this list...

It is what it is , there is always someone better, faster, smarter, better trained, or just plain lucker then you then. I don't keep count of wins and haven't in years. My group of friends i have played with since RT days keep track of my wins sometime during 2ed. I play to have fun, but I do bring it up when needed to support my points on builds or what not. Anyway, take it for what its worth. What works for me and my play style may or may not work for you. The above list I talked about can take on anything at 2k and I know I can take it. What you need to do is build a base army type you like. Then start playing it over and over and make minor changes each time to fix the holes you see. After a few games like 5 or 6 you will have a force that you know well and works well togther. Remember it is the syergy of your force that will carry the game, not a single unit or tactic...
