CarlSkaven
A Wolf Lord gets Thunderwolf... He only gets +1S and +1T????? does he get extra attacks or W???? TW cavalry have 2W and 4A just 1W less than WLord and the same number of attacks! is it just me or it seems wrong Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194486-thunderlord/ Share on other sites
confused_gordy
Thunder wolf cavalry would suck if they got the exact same benefits as a character gets with a thunder wolf, however Characters start out awesome and then get significantly better, with additional attacks and wounds a thunder wolf as wargear would be massively over powered. Wildfire
Not sure where you're getting that he doesn't get the extra attack. It says so right in the entry for thunderwolf mount. And don't forget, he becomes cavalry. That's a big deal in itself. Wispy
The act of becoming cavalry is a huge deal, and the +1 strength and +1 toughness are nothing to snort at. +1T makes him fear only the most powerful weapons in the game. Also, he does get one more attack from the mount, and with the +1 strength he also gets, his killing potential is greatly enhanced. Combined with other wargear and saga options, the Thunderlord is probably one of the most potent killing machines in the game. With I5 and a frost blade (or wolf claws), he reliably slaughters most marine-equivalents before they can even think about attacking back. The cavalry status ensures he gets into combat reliably, usually from great distances, making him the ideal HQ choice for taking advantage of Saga of the Warrior Born. His durability means he can usually ride through enemy lines and endure assault after assault, especially when accompanied with other thunderwolf cavalry. I field the Thunderlord often, and he's my favorite HQ, bar none. VorpalDoom
Fast Attack thunderwolf Cavalry are the reason I won't bother with a wolf lord on a thunder wolf. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194486-thunderlord/#findComment-2313454 Share on other sites
Natanael
a WL on TW with dual wolf claws and belt is a great marine-killer tough. Run him alone, and he has to be dealt with or squads are gonna die :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194486-thunderlord/#findComment-2313679 Share on other sites

Chucku
Thunderlord rules! I give mine a Belt of Russ, Frost Axe and Bolt Pistol. What's not to like about 7 Power Weapon attacks (4 base + 1 TW + 1 2CCW + 1 Charge) at S6, I5 hitting on 3+ (Wolf Tooth Necklace) that can Fleet and charge 12"? Being T6 is just icing on the cake. TWolf Cav are good assists - I run 4 TWC with the Lord, one with a PF, but the main killer of my TWolf unit is the Thunderlord. Also, do you really need the Wolf tooth necklace - I find the WS6 is usually enough to get me a 3+ anyway. My AO has a lot of Chaos players so I'm often going up against Daemon Princes, Summoned Greater Daemons, Bloodthirsters and the like. As a result my Thunderlord (I like that term!) is set up with a Wolf Tooth Necklace and Saga of the Beastslayer to get the most hits possible. Looks cool, and a pro job on hte hair! the more i look at peoples work with the Thunderwolves, the more I seem tempted to start thinking about my own Thanks! I cut up the original head of canis since its ugly, used an old SW plastic head in place and did a shaggy look to the beard and hair. The shield is made from an old 2edition rhino door that I cut and formed to make a stormshield. My lords eraldry will go on it ( the blood red background with the white V ). Plastenarius
I'm going to proxy a Thunderlord this weekend. I've been really intrigued with the idea behind him. I'm not sure if I want to run him solo or throw 3-4 TWC with him. I'm excited to see him rip through some units.
