happe
Without going into too much detail.... and if you dont want to have any of chaos rising ruined please stop reading... How many marines in a chapter do you think would be acceptable for the inquisition to just cleanse the traitors and not just kill the chapter off completely? Inquisitor Fox
It depends on how many are contaminated... you kill the obvious mutated ones, and bring the rest in for questioning and interrogation. There will probably be some purity testing, potential various mindwiping (selective, as Space Marines are a valued resource. If it was an IG regiment you just wipe it out or send it to die against some other foe and save yourself the trouble), psychic probing... Really you eliminate the number necessary to purge the unclean. Then the Chapter rebuilds... or is destroyed if the taint is too deep. In my opinion, of course ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194678-how-many-is-too-many/#findComment-2316072 Share on other sites
Grand Master Tyrak
IMO it would depend on whether the gene-seed stocks were corrupted. If it was, then the Chapter is going to go. If not, then just the offending members will go. Outside of that, you'd need extremes like 95% of the Chapter turning to justify disbandment, and even higher than that for outright purging. Archnomad
I think, if enough of the chapter turned, but the genes were uncorrupted, unless it was exceptional circumstances they would purge them on account of an "alarming tendency to turn traitor", if that makes sense. If however, the taint was feasible (a company lost in a warp storm, or the chapter caught in a war against the daemonic) then they would probably purge the offenders. You get chapters persisting at under even 50% strength (Flesh Tearers and Crimson Fists, for example). Although, flesh tearers are a little dubious. Blood for the blood!!...... Angels..... *ahem* No? Archy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194678-how-many-is-too-many/#findComment-2316120 Share on other sites
Artein
If we're talking about Blood Ravens.... I would purge them all. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194678-how-many-is-too-many/#findComment-2316138 Share on other sites

The Holy Heretic
One is too many, and should result in the erasure of the chapter from all records. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/194678-how-many-is-too-many/#findComment-2316451 Share on other sites

Just as well I would like to sweep them under my wing. Though I can't tell whether I'm thinking in terms of my Tzeentchian wings ... One is too many, and should result in the erasure of the chapter from all records. It's a shame the Astartes have political independence. It would be quite impressive to purge several chapters simultaneously as an example. Decimation. Chapters the Inq has always had an eye on like the Space Wolves or Dark Angels would be prepared to fight on the spot and goodie-goodie chapters would be absolutely appalled. They would all claim themselves pure and then the Imperium is screwed. They would all claim themselves pure and then the Imperium is screwed. Unlikely - the Badab War proved that. Chapters are as likely to fight for the Imperial forces against 'renegade' Chapters as they are to fight against the Imperials. The semi-mythic "Inquisition-Astartes War" isn't going to materialise.
