My First Space Wolf

Well, here goes...

Finally finished my first Grey Hunter - I'm not a confident painter, and this is the first model I've ever posted on the internet (Shock, horror, outrage!)...

Unfortunately, the photos do not show the true depths of some of the highlights, and it looks quite flat; in reality it does look (a little!) better. I'm looking for a little constructive criticism, as I'm still learning - In particular, I'm having issues with the eyes and painting the pack markings on the red shoulder pad.

I'm yet to decide on a Great Company symbol, so that shoulder pad is blank.

Anyway, here he is, brother Lycan of the Grey Hunters (Yay for a originality?)

Oh, and I forgot to mention that he was made with the old Space Wolf pieces - I've resolved not to paint any new Wolves models until I can nail the colour scheme!

*Runs to corner and hides from damning feedback* :)

I like it. It has a very gritty - don't mess with me - look to it. Unfortunately I can't make out the highlights due to the lighting in the photo, but if you put the same work into them as you did with the pack markings, then I'm sure they look OK. The only thing I might have done differently is put more variation into the furs. What I mean is some black pattern in the middle and white highlights along the edges raher than all brown. But that is just a preference. Otherwise your work is neat and clean which is the basis of any good paint job. Congrats and bring them on, we want to see more. :tu:

Oh bye the way, you can come out of hiding now, we're Space Wolves - we still can smell you and that barrel of ale you've stowed away in the basement! ;)

i like it man could do with a bit more light on the actual photo as its a wee bit dark but im liking what i am seeing anyway.

in terms of issues with eyes i feel for you there brother i always have trouble with them, although you seem to have nailed them on this model how were you having trouble exactly?

all in all very good work mate , very good work.

have an ale on me!

Thanks for the positive replies!

*Drags keg from cellar and opens it up*

Have one on me!

As for the eyes, I'm interested in learning how people seem to get them to look like glass... mine look a little like red paint :D

Also, when I've got better light, I'll take some new photos :P

Thanks

I wish I was as "bad" as you...

I like the detail on the bolter and the trimming.

I don't have the patience or fine control to paint details. I always made small brush errors that ruined all the adjacent areas.

I miss Vassal...it was so much easier to play without shame...
