My Thunderwolf Counts-as + WIP/PIP

Hi guys.

I've started(quite a while ago) to get ready for a local tourney my FLGS is going to have next week. Most of my army is already started and some of it could actually go for done, but since this is the first tourney that I feel I might have a shot at placing high in(due to army comp, I evolving as a player and so on). It's not a large thing at all(usually around 14 players) but it is still a big deal for me :tu:

Enough talked about that. Since I need some inspiration to get my whole army ready and painted to the right standard I decided to give you guys som insight in my work. That way I "have to" post pics and get stuff done. I also have an exam next week so I am quite stressed out :)

Here is what needs to be done:

1 Wolf Priest (already mosty done, altough he looks like crap)

15 Blood Claws (like 12 started, with basecoat and so on)

21 Grey Hunters (all "done", but they could use another highlight and some cleanups)

3 Rhinos (1 done but needs highlight, 2 in need of stripping and repaint)

8 Thunderwolves (in the works. Started GSing today, and have 2 done, and the others are about halfdone GSing. Painting to come)

1 Land Speeder Typhoon (mostly done, but could use som highlights)

10 Long Fangs (6 started, but in need of a few layers of highlights)

And that is all. Here are some photos of my T-wolves. All pics will be with my iPhone and therefore not so good. But you'll have to cope with that. :)

And a pic from the last tourney with my wolves(the yellow rhinos are mine :P)

Cheers!

Almost 100 ppl looked, but noone commented :P You the best at motivating me to get things done, haha!

Anyway: a small update. I have 6 wolves for my TWC done, and two more half done. After that I'll prime the first squad. Also put together all my other stuff exept for one long fang pack(missing 3 MLs). Here are some pics of the rest of the army so far:

I'm likin' the T-wolves, but I think that the Space Wolf pose needs to be a bit more dynamic, at least in the first picture. He looks like he's afraid of the wolves and is backpeddling, but that could just be the angle.

EDIT: Also, lovin' the Chaos Warrior bits.

Man i love those chaos warrior conversions! i hate you, now i want to do that... and for the first pics of the wolves i think you could touch up the area where teh green stuffed fur meets the actual fur as it looks to obvious where they seperate.

Thanks for replies, guys. The WoC-bits/guys I use for my marines are kinda hard to change. I'd also like some kind of dynamic pose, and I'll see what I can do with the base to create one.

@ Hrothgar: The WoC conversions are really easy to do. I just re-make their armour from the knee down, swap head and add a bolter or something in one hand.

Anyway; got 6 wolvs primed now. Anyone got a tip on how to paint them? I have no idea how to make such large amouths of fur without making it look terrible. My standard fur recepie wont work.

I use a mix of GW and P3 colors, mostly P3 paints. After a watered-down Devlan wash on the warmer browns and a black wash on the scorched brown, I started dry brushing. I started with the base colors again, then started dry brushing with successively more Menoth White Hightlight (a bone white color), then a touch of pure Menoth White Highlight and white on the edges and tips.

I've done the same techniques with three different greys on a test model, and it turned out pretty nice as well.

Ok. Double-post =D

We've been out of electricity for some time today, and that made it kinda hard to post anything here. I havent done very much tough, just got some paints and primed a few wolves. Gonna have a go at the above(a few posts) recepie for fur, and then we'll see where if goes. I have also been thinking about dropping the BCs(too much to paint) and instead add 2 Lone Wolves and some Pack Leaders. I have to decide, 'cause the list is to be handed in tomorrow.

Mor pics in the morning ^_^

Fellas: UPDATE! :P

Six wolves done, except for some metal and a few details. I have also primed my first 4 "huntsmen" and look forward to painting them tonight.

Other then that I've been thinking about my list, and think I'm gonna drop the BCs in favour for some other stuff. But still havent decided :P What do you guys think? This is the list I am painting towards right now:

Wolf Priest - 120 points

Meltabombs, Wolf Tail Talisman, Saga of the Beastslayer

15 Blood Claws - 250 points

Power Fist

7 Grey Hunters - 160 points

Meltagun, Plasma Pistol, Rhino

7 Grey Hunters - 160 points

Meltagun, Plasma Pistol, Rhino

7 Grey Hunters - 160 points

Meltagun, Plasma Pistol, Rhino

4 Thunderwolves - 290 points

Power Weapon, Wold Claw, Power Fist, Storm Shield

4 Thunderwolves - 290 points

Power Weapon, Wold Claw, Power Fist, Storm Shield

Land Speeder Typhoon - 90 points

5 Long Fangs - 115 points

4x Missile Launcher

5 Long Fangs - 115 points

4x Missile Launcher

Total: 1750 points

The things that I have already, that I can take instead of the BCs are mainly more GHs, Scouts, a Dread or Terminators/Lone Wolves (any loadout goes). I do also have a Land Raider and an LRC that I could add :P

What do you guys think? Both about the painted wolves and the list/changes!

It's a great way to represent TWC. And your rendering is very fearsome looking. Cograts :P

I think another forum member has done something on the same lines. IIRC it was Magnuthetraitor. If I was you I'd check his work out. I always find inspiration and ideas from fellow wolf brothers.

Keep it up and post more pics when they are finished.

Yeah. I may not take two of anything, but I am free to take one of each(anyone can take SS tough). That's how I read it, and I've never had an argue about it since everyone I played think the same way.

I believe you are wrong. One pack member in each pack may take One special weapon, that's it.

Otherwise it would have said "ANY pack member may..."

I must say I agree with Sarapham. Its worded similarly to the Wolf Guard heavy weapon entry. A bummer for sure, but I think you'll have fun with the basic 6 rending Str 5 attacks on the charge (4 base + 1 two CCW + 1 charge) and not miss the extra special weapons. Meltabombs are fun, though.

Magnus

Ah, well. I'm gonna have to check this up with swedish tourney-faqs and stuff. Otherwise I save some points and have to change a few arms. No big deal, really :D

And about updates; there will be some tomorrow I hope. Havent had the time to do anythin today, but yeh. Tomorrow will be a painting day hopefully, tough I must study as well. Life is hard ;)
