Pedro/Relictors Conversion and Paint Commission

Recommended Posts

It might help you get some comments if you transfer over some images from that linked thread over to the b&c with some image tags.

However, guaging from what I saw on that thread- very nicely converted and it should wind up looking great

Cheers mate. I'll do that. I can be a bit lazy with keeping lots of threads up to date. ;-)

Wow, that rocks! How did you paint the base? I'm getting some bases in the post that are stonework, and thats the similar kind of colour i'm looking to do ^_^

Cheers guys. Hopeing to get this little fella done over the next two weeks.

Re: base. This is what I did.

I used some of the basing kit from GW for the helmet and shells. You can see the parts in the earlier photos before undercoating. Added grit to finish off and then started painting.

Start with Graveyard Earth over all and, once dried, dry brush Khaki and Bleached Bone over all. Finally a slightly thinned wash of Devlan Mud.

The shells were painted Bronze and Devlan Mud wash followed by Shining Gold highlight.

Helmet was painted deep red (forgotten the colour name) and Gold. All was washed black. I then worked the gold areas back up from Shining Gold through to adding more Silver for the highlights. The red areas were worked up through bright red to orange and then washed over with red wash colour. This wash should not pool or be to heavy.

Pipes painted gunmetal, washed black and highlighted silver very lightly.

Finally some gunmetal around the bullet hole and there you go.

Hope that helps.

Started on the armour. About half way through theprocess. Mixed 50:50 Black:Fortress Grey for the undercoat then worked Codex Grey over the top to build the main colour. Next job is to tone it down and get some depth before fianl highlighting.

Thanks mate,

I'd like to thank you for your efforts on your website. Really helpful and informative! I've never done a Relictors model before so had to do a bit of research to get my head around the 'feel' of the chapter. Ta. My client is very pleased.

Little bit more progress today. Highlighted the armour and then a glaze of badab black just to tie it all together. Starting the detail soon.

No worries, I haven't updated it for a long while now but I'm very glad that it still gets used.

I really like the grey armour, you've achieved a fantastic gradient that looks very smooth! I started using Badab Black wash to bring the colours together on Relictors character models such as my Chapter Masters, and my WIP Sternguard unit too. However the pre-wash blending work you've done is far superior to anything I have managed to achieve so far.

I'm really liking your use of Pedro, although I'm not so keen on the helmet purely because in my view of the Relictors, Laurel Wreaths don't fit in with their theme of being down-and-dirty borderline heretics. However that's just down to my personal taste! I'm very tempted to use Pedro myself with a different head and possibly holding a Chaos weapon in place of his Powerfist - maybe convert a PA Grey Knight halberd arm into some kind of Tzeentchian Sorceror's staff.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Urza: Thanks lot mate. Nice to hear good things from a dedicated Relictors player. Yea, I agree that some of the details aren't exactly what one would expect but this is what my client wants. Had a mooch through your thread. Full of loads of great ideas I may nick if I'm asked to do any more for Relictors.

I've wanted to paint a Pedro loads so was pleased to be asked too and I have to say it's a great model. Well worth getting. Good luck with your conversion.

Plenty of progress this evening. All the metallic surfaces are done.

I love it and I really like the Relictor love. Can't wait to see the finished product.

My only gripe is that at command level I'd love to see some type of showing of chaotic relics/wargear.

Feel free to use any of the ideas on my site, thats what its there for! And the more Relictors players out there the better

I have to say, you've won me round on the Laurel Wreath thing now. I was expecting it to be painted in green like you see on so many UM models. However, it looks fantastic in gold, so good job!

I really should bet some more pictures up of my army - its pretty much complete now, I've based everything and just have the finishing touches to put on my Sternguard. After that I think I'll give them a rest for a while, even though theres still a ton of other stuff I'd like to get for them (new Venerable Dreadnought and Lanspeeder Storm for a start!). I also had an idea for building a Coven of Relictors Librarians and maybe making some Apocalypse rules for them.

PS: Quick question: I notice that you've added scratches and chipped paint to the Storm Bolter casing - Are you planning on adding any weathering/scratches/chipped paint to the rest of Pedro's armour as you get closer to finishing him? Its something I've wanted to go back and do to my entire army, but I'm worried that I may overdo the effect.

Rollover: Cheers mate. I think he is delighted so far.

Lord Ragnarock: Cheers. I agree that he would look more fluffy with a relevant weapon but the client only wanted a fairly straight forward conversion.

Urza: Cheers for your permission. ;-) Glad you like the work I've done so far. I'm really happy with how the gold is popping against the grey. That coven idea sounds very interesting. Quite Thousand Sons.

I am going to be aging/battle damaging him but only a little. There is so much detail I don't want to detract from the stuff already there.

Plenty of progress and not a million miles from completion. Still alot of work to do but we are well over 2/3rds done.

This model gives me a funny feeling in my tummy :P Seriously though, amazing work. love the relictors, and you have captured them perfectly, and, as always, your painting is top notch and makes me want to improve my skills :)
