What would Russ Do?

I want all of my brothers' Opinions.

--What is the best way to outfit a Land Raider and the Terminators It carries?

--Which Land Raider do you use, what do you out fit it with?

--What would you put in it? Wolf Guard? A HQ with Bodyguards?

--How do you outfit those Battle Brothers?

Note, this is 2000pt Game. I want to know what you would bring to be the most ferocious and down right mean. This isn't a friendly game you are playing this is a battle for Greatness, Honor, and above all Russ!

I recently went with a LRC/w multiMelta.

7 WG Termies with an Assault Cannon and one Chainfist.

Ragnar Blackamane..FTW!

They charge out and nothing will survive. Plus they're a very survivable unit.

I know it could be fine tuned but that's the gist of what I used.

Plus when the time is right, Ragnar can split off and wipe out whole squads by himself.

(could add one more WG in PA or RA)

ah yes but that unit is very mean in combat but what happens when you destroy your opponent? more often than naught your left out in the open to his army. and while it may be nill to none demolishers, vindicators, plasma brigades, your opening yourself to alot of worry.

I would highly suggest this load out being cheaper, allowing your opponent to survive your assault but not his assault phase where you are safe.

Ragnar, hes a beast on the charge and warrior borne makes it all the better. However Pa armour wolf guard are just as good with him and cheaper meaning more points else where in your army. Also lets be real ragnar is the real fang in this bite and when going can tear through many combats. (perhaps a new Kharne?) You put Ragnar and 4 pa Wolf Guard in the crusader and you have a small mobile unit that is able to destroy troop choices and maybe some dedicated combat units.

At most i would give the wolf guard power weapons or wolf claws if you must for out right destruction. however storm shields maybe preferred for survivability of extra wounds.

At 2000 points I run:

Wolf Lord, RA, FB, Saga of WB, Belt of Russ, WTN

Wolf Priest, TDA, WTN

2x WG with TDA WC+SS

2x WG with TDA Duel WC

ARJAC ROCKFIST!

WG with CF and Hvy Flamer

All in a LRC with a MM. It kicks ass and eats a massive hole in your army but fortunately your opponents too busy legging it to do anything LOL

consider the land raider. if you have enough anti tank, 12 missiles, 4 las cannons its better to gain some anti infantry fire power where its needed.

the land raider is a threat until its dead true. the lascannons make it so. however you can also gain a long fang unit with more fire power for cheaper

the redeemer while great is extremely close range and that hurts.

the crusader can be great at 24 inch range. 6-12 bolter shots, 6 assault cannon shots, melta or stormbolter shots.

i like it for what it does and it does me right

14 Bloodclaws

Wolf Priest

Ragnar

Land Raider Crusader

on the charge a potential

70 attacks from blood claws

6 from the Wolf Priest (ignoring armour saves)

8 from Ragnar (ignoring armour saves) - on the FIRST turn

all at S5 (6 for Ragnar) and I 5 (6 for Ragnar)

and rerolling to failed to-hit rolls....

yeah, i know it's probably too powerful for its own good... but still the numbers are funny :o

My main problem with the hammer units like this is that yu invest a large part of your army in one place. I usually spread the risks as good as I can and have several hammers. 2x4 TWC + BCs in LRC is a good way of making your enemy choose. Better still is Ragnar in that LRC, War Howling when the TWC charge =D

Redeemer

Logan

Arjac

2 TDA with twin wolf claws

2 TDA with TH/SS

Deploy along a flank as far forward as you can , move forward 12" behind cover or with some intervening scenery if possible or pop smoke

next turn move forward twelve inches and if in range disembark two inches out from your transport and assault , being as you will be on your opponents flank they will have to divert a lot of firepower from the rest of your army to bring this unit down, which gives your other units a chance to advance relatively safely

and if running up the flank you can steamroll from one unit to the next otherwise if they move away from the logan squad of doom they are going to corner themselves for you to come in with the rest of your force and obliterate them in the corner.

ArRRrOoOOOooO

Would Russ approve of this tactic??

First turn move the loaded Land Raider forward 12" and drop 2 Drop Pods, one with a Dreadnought and one with 9 Greyhunters and a WG.

Turn 2 Drop your last Drop pod of either another unit of GHs or a dread. Move foward with your Landraider, Disembark and assault.

All the while shooting with 2 units of LongFangs and 2 rune priests. Not to mention the other couple of units you have in Rhinos.

Why do you put ragnar and 4 WGs in a LRC? Put them in the normal LR and get some extra AT to pop the transport the troops are hiding in =D

Because you should have other units doing that. But even still, a MM upgrade on a LRC is only 10 points and with PotMS you can pop a transport while using the Assault Cannon and Hurricane Bolters to hit another target. Or you could use PotMS on Transport A then the LRC's regular shooting on Transport B with the twin linked Assault Cannons. Lotta possibilities with the LRC, and lest we forget the hull mounted Frag Launchers to assault into cover.

My LRC/Terminator Pack:

Wolf Lord- Power Fist, Frost Axe (Yes, this is correct), Belt of Russ, PA/RA

Wolf Guard- All TDA, 2xWolf Claws, 1xTH/SS, Arjac, 1xAssault Cannon/Wolf Claw

I'm making a scratch built Ulrik who I might consider adding into this pack, but like Natanael mentioned in another post I, too, like to spread my threats out evenly (despite several threats being congregated here). Ulrik, 2 Vindicators, a pack of Wolf Scouts plus a WG and WGBL, and 5 more Wolf Guards in PA leading GH packs make many more threats that should be addressed. Hammer units are really effective, but they're even more effective if you can support them with other threats and lots of firepower. It also helps that I run every pack in Rhinos so they'll be getting to the front lines when my LRC is.

If you're doing this for Russ then it's time to bring on the hurt...

I'd say 13 or 14 BC's with PW

WP with whatever you fancy

Ragnar (or equivalent)

And a WG with a Fist if you feel so inclined.

All in a LRC with whatever you feel like making the most kills with.

That keeps most of the attacks from the BC's, and grants one fist should it be needed. Again, might not be worth it, however with that lovely roll of up to 5 attacks, minimum of four, this can be really effective. And includes rerolls against the preferred enemy.

*surreptitiously points at his own post a few higher up the thread*

:)

Getting back to the original question that was posted...

I'd go with a LRC with MM for the transport. It offers the best of both worlds IMO and the up-close nature of it goes beautifully with the Space Wolves' prefered method of war (in your face!)

In a LRC I'd place two w/ Chainfist & Storm Bolter, one with either Cyclone Missile Launcher or Assault Cannon and five of them with a Wolf Claw & Storm Bolter each. 5 points to reroll to hit or to wound? Hel yeah! That leaves a spot left over for your flavor of HQ.

Would you really bring a unit like that in 2000pt game? That's pushing a 750pt unit

That's the beauty of GH packs, their versatility and point cost allow you to take a lot for a little. One big hammer unit of, lets say, 750 points still lets you take 4x 200 point GH packs (10 GHs, 2 special weapons plus 1 SCCW), then you still have 450 points for a Vindicator or 2 and Long Fangs, or anything else you'd rather take with those 450 points.
