CarbonCopy
Well, I really should have posted this a LOT sooner. I didn't because of the same reason I signed up for the LPC in the first place - A nasty cold & Sinus Infection that prevented me from completing my Termi Librarian in time for the Golden Bolter. Now that the THIRD round of antibiotics has been completed and feeling somewhat similar to what I remember being; It's time to get my ... in gear! Here is a teaser for the Terminator Librarian. http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/TermLibrarian/S4300016_2.JPG I've actually made a tiny bit more progress since this photo was taken, but not much. I intend to give him a touch of a 5 0'clock shadow. The armour is basically done, with the following exception. All the "steel" colors details only have a base coat and a black wash. They will be highlighted up to represent the same implied directional light that the armour has, plus some fine/slight rust weathering on and around those elements. I'm using basically the same color palette throughout for the bone and parchment, with same brown iron oxide that for washes/shadows as will be used to weather/shadow the steel components. The blue robe has a backing comprised of a slightly cleaner version of the same colors for the bone & parchment. I'll dirty it up later via airbrush after I do some freehand details on both faces. Actually I'm going to airbrush in some dirty gray on the bottom of the robe, lower legs & feet at the same time after the base is mostly done. I'm not quite sure exactly what freehanded stuff I'm going to do on the robe. Probably a simple border line, with a simplified clan cog detail at the flipped corner on the front. The book on the shoulder will be getting an Iron Hands gauntlet, while the book over his head will have a cog icon on the right page (the one without the bookmark hanging over it). There is quite a bit left to do on this guy. This is just a taste of the direction he's heading. More photos of the Librarian. The following servitor is pretty much done. http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/Servitors/S4300027.JPG These two need some detail work (gem/indicator lights/whatever and the "vials of chemicals" to be done and/or cables & wires to be painted/highlighted, etc). http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/Servitors/S4300021.JPG http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/Servitors/S4300023.JPG Photos of the backs, plus one more servitor that is still very WIP can be found here. CarbonCopy
Again, due to events outside of my control (several *WEEKS* of mandatory over-time at work), I will have to FAIL my LPC vow. Anyway, here is the progress I have made on the Librarian. http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/TermLibrarian/Update/S4300001.JPG http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/TermLibrarian/Update/S4300002.JPG http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/TermLibrarian/Update/S4300004.JPG And a close-up shot of the book on the right shoulder pad. http://www.myenothing.com/images/minis/40k/marines/IronHands/TermLibrarian/Update/S4300003.JPG It's kind-of odd how this thing shows up in photos. Not bad, just odd. The next stages are ... * Complete everything that will end up being metal (chains, keys, etc) and rust effects (just a light patina around the edges). * Paint the bookmark ribbons and the haft of the staff the same blue as the tabard. * The wires around the head will be a light "glowing" shade of blue. I may attempt some OSL with it. * A few leather strap details need to be completed (the leather cord through the skull details and the cord holding the keys on the front of the tabard. * Highlight the red details (they only have a base coat and wash on them now). So, really only about 3-4 hours of work left on the Librarian. The Servitors are another mater, with twice that amount of work left to go. I'm just not going to make it in time considering I'm going to have to work late tonight ... AGAIN! I'll continue to update this page until I'm done, maybe adding a few more current WIP projects that I need to complete. Starks333
they look good so far but a couple suggestions: -build up colour to add volume to the skin on the servitors, its too flat even for pale skin...you can use soft blues like shadow grey mixed in with say a green or brown -retouch the freehand, its uneven and messy looking, go n with the beige and "erase" to refine the shapes more...also when complete add a thin glaze of the base colour over the freehand to blend it into the surface a tiny bit, it makes it look more natural lookin good tho  Alex Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/195576-carboncopys-lpc-wip-big-photos/#findComment-2339905 Share on other sites
CarbonCopy
Thanks for the comments everyone! And THANK YOU Starks for the tips! It don't help that the close-up photo of the freehand details is 5-times larger than real life, but I had planned to clean it up a bit. I'll definitely do the glaze you suggested. As for the servitors, the skin on them is actually older than my daughter. She turns 4-years-old in a couple weeks. CarbonCopy
Sorry for the long delay... and sorry for not having photos in this post (next one, promise). After an insane amount of work over-time (training staff, printing *ALL* of Nintendo's E3 booth fabric components, other big trade show clients, interviewing for a "Production Manager" job at Privateer Press, etc) I'm finally getting back to doing some paint work on the Librarian. I picked up some Tamiya paints a couple weeks ago. Smoke, Clear Red, Chrome Silver and Flat Base. I can tell where GW got the idea for the "Washes" line of paints due to Smoke's viscosity. It feels the same. Nice stuff, but I think it smells like Sake due to the isopropanol+glycol ethers. Weird. And before anyone asks -- I didn't get the job over at PP.
