wolf363839
I am wondering what everyone's view is on taking a Wolf Lord with a TWM and giving him 2 Fenrisian Wolves as wargear. By taking 2 wolves you effectively have a 3-man/wolf unit with the majority toughness of 4, which means shooting attacks roll on the T 4 instead of getting the advantage of a T 5 from the TWM. The same could be said if you instead attach the Wolf Lord to a pack of Fenrisian Wolves fast attack choice. Is it worth giving the Wolf Lord these ablative wounds to get him across the battlefield if it also means getting shot at with a T 4??? Got a few battles coming up and need some advice! (more TWC are not an option for me at this point). Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/195594-question-of-toughness/ Share on other sites
SeanyPrawny
Use an iron priest on TWM with 4 cyber wolves. All T5 and more brutal on the charge but some nice TH and PF attacks to boot. Stormbrow II
It can have it's place in a list: I'm using it as a cheap Saga of the Bear (20 pts wolves vs 35 Saga) and having my character join a unit of TWC so that the majority toughness is 5. Anything that can instant kill my lovely expensive characters or TWC is put onto my Fenris Wolves. Otherwise I'll be using my lovely T5 and different wargear to wound allocate to spread the damage so that when I get to combat I have as many models as I can and when the Power Weapon/Fist attacks hit my unit my brave doggies take the damage and allow my S10 fists to hit. If my Lord/WGBL leaves his unit of TWC then I'll have the Wolves killed by any big hits (they basically give him an extra 2 wounds) unless I play Psyker Battle squads that can dick my Ld and cause me to fail my Morale test when the unit takes 25% casualties. Don't forget that the Wolves if killed with shooting will cause a Morale test. Even with Ld 9 and 10, you really should try to minimise the number of tests that you take. I agree totally. I find a pair of Fenrisian Wolves to be very useful for taking those first couple Str 10 shots that always seem to home in a unit of Thunderwolf cavalry. I don't go the route of "Storm Shields for all!", so having those ablative wounds (with a 4+ save if I play my cover right) for the big stuff is really helpful. With that said, its nice to have a few extra attacks when you charge in as well! wolf363839
I'm not sure Fenrisian Wolves bought as wargear would help against a demolisher cannon or the like, since they are separate models they would be just as dead as the Wolf Lord. I guess you could always hope for a roll of 1 to wound so you could take the wolves instead, but that's not a real sound strategy unless you have more than the 2 wargear wolves... Yeah, but what DOES work against a Demolisher Cannon? Saga of the Bear, Belt of Russ. That's about it for us. My advice: Try not to get shot with a Demolisher Cannon. -Stormshrug Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/195594-question-of-toughness/#findComment-2331247 Share on other sites
