Thats 140 Dollars in kit alone I can see there @_@ Not that its bad just holy jeeze I did one from a second hand raider and a pod for about 50

Dude, they want your cash, you really think that they would do a workshop using a "cheap" conversion?

Having seen the workshops my local GW runs I can say yes they do. They are pushing product but it doesnt mean they have to really push something quite so expensive.

And Im not saying that as a future employee. :cuss

That conversion is The Wings of a Valk with the back crew compartement Attacked to an angled and cut up walls of a raider (Crusader) Leaving the interior layer off. Assault Cannons are Replaced with the Cockpit piece from Valk. HB Razor turret mounted back on the Top of the Raider. And assault cannons on the underside. Its pretty simple over all.

That's a load of dough AND points that I plan on sinking into my Death Company Storm Raven!!!

I like the LR+Valk build best and plan on doing a similar build, but I'd like to find a way to allow my LR© to detach from the "wings" in case I want to use it as a separate LR©. In any regard it will definitely be optional mode of transport for my DC as I think they should get all the new toys first. Sane warriors may be a little too concerned with maintaining the pristine paintjobs, being that we are such artisans. :tu:

So a new LRC & Valkyrie will run me $116 USD, and I'll use my existing 10 DC, Reclusiarch Chaplain & DC Dread (CCW + AC). That'll give me ~ 700pts of insanity to run at the enemies of The Angel. ;)

You are going to run into size issues with the full on LR attached to a valk hull. Its also going to be awkward mounting it with the tracks on as well.

Well, looking at that stormraven, you have to cut the side doors off of the Land raider, then take that and cut it in halph, glue the front and rear together, then put all of that onto the front end of a Valkyrie.

Yeh, I did some sketches of trying to keep the LR intact and just add the Valk....screw it...Dante's Flying Land Raider is good enough for me!!! Besides since our LRs can DS now, there aren't many advantages to an SR?

  • Can you assault out of it after moving flat out? Don't think so.
  • LR's armour is 14; SR is only 13. Me thinks.
  • LRC can hold 15 DC; SR can hold 12+Dread. Hmmm...??? That's probably the only advantage, aside from movement & +1 weapon. Are these enough though?
  • LRC is cheaper than the DIY SR, especially since I'd want 3 of either. That's the deal-breaker!!!

Can someone metagame 3 LRCs filled with 3x15 DC & Astorath, of course! vs. 3 SRs filled with 3x12 DC + 3 DC Furiosos & Astorath? Or would it come down to the vehicles themselves? LRC vs. SR sitting 12" from each other?

Actually, that conversion/kitbash that Demoulius posted is pretty much the best and most accurate concept I've seen yet for a Storm Raven. It looks like a mini-Thawk, which is exactly how I envisioned the SR. It's actually not that insane to convert, either; it's essentially a LRC/LRR box with the hull chopped in half, and the wings, engine, and tail of a Valkyrie cut to fit. All said and done, about 100 bucks. Pretty fair deal for an advanced kitbash, especially if you want something that isn't a LR with wings.

Though, to be fair, the LR w/ wings is funny as heck. It looks awful, but it's great for lulz. :D

I don't know if this is still a tactica thread or a how to make thread or both. So I'll throw in both:

Tactica: DC Dread + 10 DC (Fist) w/ Lemmy

If my rules were correct this got me a dual charge with the Fleet Dread having a charge range of 24-29" off the Raven even if it comes in from reserves (12" Raven move + 1.99" disembark +3" base length +1-6" fleet + 6" Charge) letting you roll up on a juicy target with the Lemmy and the Boys and at the same time throw the Dread at whatever is waiting around to countercharge. (I have this image in my head of the Raven pilot whipping the tail of the Raven around and hitting the release on the Dread Grapples at the same time to literally sling the Dread into his target)

Admittedly the Jump pack Lemmy will be slowed down by his earthbound charges but I think his I6(7) putts his power weapon attacks outside the chance of being stacked on the same couple of guys by the flood of regular wounds from the DC.

(As a side note I did some looking in the BBB and couldn't find anything preventing the one Jump Pack from joining his brethren, but I could be wrong and that would nix this whole strat)

Conversion: No pics yet but in the spirit of the above flying ax I have just slapped some layered DP fins on the side of a Crusader without the tracks. One on top and the other four in pairs on each side. It's ugly but it works until I can scrape together some cash for a Valk for my real attempt.

Edit: Only one game in so far as I only got my Dex on Thurs.

  • 2 weeks later...

Now after having to paint 3 raiders and 24 infantry + Display board it took alittle while to get an update on the Storm Raven. And here she is basically done.

guys at my local GW have painted the raven up and are holding a workshop on how to construct one. sadly im going off on a holiday so i cant be present for the actuall workshop but ive already contacted the local staff and they agreed to let me do the workshop at some later date  il make a "how to" topic for it when the time comes but in the meantime il post some pictures ;)

gallery_11639_3674_79621.jpg

at this angle you can see how big the thing really is, it almost comes to the top of the fortress of redemption...its a huge target, will be tough to hide this one :P

gallery_11639_3674_15013.jpg

and at a somewat different angle, shows some of the side details. tbh i dont really like the position of the hurican bolters, as they would be shooting anyone who would be jumping out in the back :) but maybe i can fix that a little when i make my own :woot:

imho they did a great job of painting this model up as well :) they did some nice looking free hands on it and even asked me if i wanted to play with it. (declined though since im not sure how to use it yet....it will receive thorough playtesting  )

so watch this space guys, next weekend (not the coming one, the one after that) il probably have my own

Hehe. I like the conversion, comedy models like these are always fun.

Thats the best conversion for a Stormraven I've seen yet and looks like its worth every penny put into it. Most the ones I've seen look lame being badly altered toys or a chop job with a more or less unmodified rhino that just looks like pile of random parts than an actual drop ship. If you can get a 'how to' thread going that would be great.
