scratch building Sentry Guns ...

going to scratch build 4 (for a start) sentry guns for my army.

this is what I have come up with so far;

http://www.thearena.se/conversion/IMG_0001.JPG

using parts from the inside of a drop pod as well as the hatches for a rhino.

these sentry guns can be mounted with MULTI-MELTA, HEAVY BOLTER or LASSCANNON (last two twin linked).

need some help with making the guns etc. and convert them.

MULTI-MELTA

my idea so far is to build some sort of 'hurricane melta battery'.

simply stack 6 regular meltas in a nice way and use it as a 'count as' multi melta.

LASSCANNON

here I need twin linked lass, and all I got at the moment is 2 lasses from a razorback.

problem is these might be a tad to big, and the ones from a LR is WAY to big.

think I can use just the barrels and make some casing for them? ideas?

HEAVY BOLTERS

I am at a total loss here.

atm all I got are 2x 'dual HBs' I got from some deathwing land speeder or something (I think) these could work.

beside that I got regular HBs from my attack bikes, but I am reluctant to take these as I might need them.

on the other hand, who field attack bikes these days that's not MM?

need some potential ideas on how to make HBs 'twin linked'.

maybe some sort of casing here as well, a bullet feeder pack and 2x plastic rod out of the casing made solid? =S

++ edit ++

revised it a bit and only use three 'legs' and will also try to build some sort of feet on them.

I am thinking on making a thicker 'neck' between the tripod and the weapon, so it don't look like it's floating.

and this is the first take in a lass

Actually looks pretty sharp, though I'd find something to stand in for the lascannon powercell and run a bit of guitar wire-I mean power cabling to it. :jaw:

Don't see why you'd need 6 meltas to make a multimelta, the dev multimelta is just an over and under double barrel affair, you could do something like that pretty easy, espescially if you had a cowling over it and just two melta barrels sticking out.

I'd scrounge around for something to act as feet as well, they look a bit unsturdy for the harsh battlefields of the grimdark future.

If you're going to make some round spacers to raise the guns up from the platform, if you have any used superglue caps you can cut up those'd be circular, possibly textured nicely, and about the right size to be cut up into turret necks.

thanks for the comment.

well regarding the meltas I just thought it would look cool with a battery of them =) haha.

I am working on the feet atm and the lass casing as well =) will upload more pics later on =p

I have no glue caps, I look for something that's as wide as the centre flat surface on these rhino hatch stuff.

but I think I found something to use =)

i like them they look like a great substitue for tarantulas or as objective markers

do they need to be on that size base? or are they too big for 40mm

thanks.

they don't need a base, but I bluetac them to one while I work as it's easier to look at it from different angles etc. =)

well, I count myself as done with these for now.

might flesh the lass out later on when I know what to do with it and find good parts. but for now it's like that =)

Yea I agree with they look like there resting on the legs..If you lift up the legs and have them glued to the side of the base up in the air lifted up "like a tripod" that might help the look overall. really nice idea of using leftover bits to create something nice..keep it up..

I can't re do the legs atm as they are glued already and I want it to be slimmed to the ground. I cant make it much higher as it's a sentry gun, not a dreadnought =)

but I do agree on your points that it looks like it's resting on them. and I am aware of the strange look. been thinking on cutting the parts underneath away. but things is they don't show when you have them on the table and play ...

I will try cut and fix one of them =)

had the idea of adding 'flapps' ... both as a way to pilot the descent and use as extra legs on uneven terrain.

good or bad?

how do you mean?

and thanks for the comment =)

Space Wolf long fangs exist out of a leader an 1-5 gunners, but my pre-hersesy fluf doesn't cover such a unit, this woud be a good way to cover that problem

ah ok =)

well, I guess the parts may be rather easy to come by as many people glue their pods shut =))
