No wolves on Fenris?

Some of you might want to read the first (few) Space Wolf books, as they show us a lot of 40k time frame Space Wolfs lives, even if it is a Black Library source, and as such a bit questionable.

A few general things, Wolf-like creatures existed before Russ came, probably imported by the first settlers, possibly gene adapted. Much like you find certain animal types throughout the Imperium, horses for example. These wolfs are for one of these reason bigger then Terran (or other worlds) wolfs, and have some baseline intelligence bejond what we would call wolfs.

Aspirates that become wulfen within a short time of drinking from the cup are released into the wild, as the human part of their mind is to far gone, while those that become so later, after becoming full marines and having lived for a long time can keep more of the human mind together, hence why these can be used in battle by the Chapter.

Blackmane encountered a Wulfen in the first book, so they do survive for some time, no regression to wolfs.

When Ragnar encountered the Wulfen, it was his friend who was jealous of him that turned into the Wulfen. I like to believe that those that succumb to the Canis Helix are taken away to some seperate part of the Fang and looked after by the Wolf Priests. As the change occured while the aspirants were making their way back to the Fang on that trial before the implants, it would have been a recent thing. Also remember the Wulfen for 13th Company have lasted thousands of years so unlikely that they devolve further into wolves. But then I'm not a fluff-pert (?).

True, but then again you are also not factoring things in like Old Night.

The birth of Slaanesh sent a big psychic shock wave across the galaxy, no telling what else it did. Astartes become Wulfen, no specific data on a base line human with the helix.

Personally, I really hope that the fluff isn't going that route. There are much cooler things the wolves could be.

if the wolves were devloved humans do you not think that the rune priests would suspect?

also why would normal humans who have neither the gene seed or the canis helix which ive always believed has come from russ be able to devolve into russ, maybe ive understood it wrong but i certainly read it nothing like that

and finally surely if there was genetic engineering in place in the original settlers of fenris mutation would be more common and as all fenrisian babies bareing the stigma of mutation are drowned at birth there wouldnt be may fenrisians to pick from for the wolves to pick aspirants from?
