Conversion idea(s)

Kind of OT now that the conversation has moved on, but I too feel that BCs are kind of redundant in this codex. I would have felt better about running BS/WS 3 marines instead of GHs if they'd had a S or I bump to show their "primal ferocity" or some such. Can anyone here tell me that making BCs Initiative 5 would have broken them? Nah, it would have actually made them a decent choice for shock troops. Now, they're just a unit thats mediocre unless you throw another 350+ or so points on top of them for a Wolf Priest and LR to make them worthwhile.

Just spent the morning converting my Ultra's into my new Space Wolves.

Used the topknots and long hair from a Dark Eldar sprue I had laying around for the wolf pelts and hairdo's.

Cut/ripped the bolter arm of a Battle For Black Reach (BFBR) Captain and glued in an arm holding a storm bolter with two of the aforementioned hair pelts on his back. It'll work as a Wolf Lord for now I guess.

Took the three BFBR Sergeants I had and made them into Bloodclaws. Shaved the pointing finger hand down on top and glued on a bolter pistol or plasma pistol. Head is still stuck facing forwards but not sure I want to risk ripping it off.

So far I have two full squads of Long Fangs 1st has 2x PC's, 3x ML's, 2nd has 1x LC, 4 x ML) with a third armed with two heavy bolters and a MM.

Six squads of Ghost Hunters (60 in all), all have flamers, one has a melta gun another a plasma gun, for kicks I put a PFist in one of the squads as well. Will most likely add to these totals as I get other sets and build two more squads.

I will be rocking two Wolf Guard squads, ten strong, each with a TH/SS, 2x Wolf Claws, AC, and CML. Seven other WG will be rocking Terminator suits as well but may end up battle leaders or another squad at some point. All are sporting helmets save two.

My Blood Claws squad has 11 members thus far, but planning on a full roster soon enough. One Plasma Pistol and a Flamer, PFist so far. Rest have mostly bolters. One carried the 3rd company standard but I hacked it off and gave him a chainsword now.

One of my old Assault Marines back pack wouldnt give up the ghost and his torso ripped off in such a way that the upper half will be used for a casuality objective marker now. Saved the legs and had enough torso's to resurrect the model as a tough looking BC now.

My SkyClaws squad is at full strength with ten SW's, one plasma pistol, one PFist, one Flamer. Rest have bolt pistols and chainswords.

I converted my Apothecary to a Wolf Priest as well as my Chappy. So there are two of them now.

My Libby will be the new Rune Priest, and the Techmarine will laterally transer over as an Iron Priest.

I have a single Razorback (LC x1, TLPG), Rhino (Stormbolter), Landraider with standard armaments save a Stormbolter instead of a MM, and a Landspeeder with AC and MM.

Two Dreads that I count as Venerable round out my list. One has TLLC and ML. The other has MM, DCCW w/stormbolter.

So what do you all think? Will post pics when I can.

Well the Wolf in me is about to go back on the prowl so to speak.

The wife asked for a divorce. Bad news is that my model buying will be suffering for about a year until I get myself out of the marital debt machine, the good news is I will have a lot more time to paint now :D :tu:

So did I hear correctly that Lone Wolves cannot drop pod in? I cant find any such animal in my copy of C: SW. This sounds strange as to drop pod in 6-10 of these badies into the enemy to tie em up for a turn or two would seem like a brillant idea. If not, how about throwing em on a rhino or LSS? Get em there, get em into the fight, and pick off the survivors.

Oh and put Mark of the Wulfen on each one. TRUELY SICK!!!! ;)

Sorry to hear about the divorce. Hope everything works out.

Lonewolves can't use a drop pod because they can't buy their own transport. They can borrow another transport after turn 1 but the DP has already landed at that point so it doesn't work....

Looking forward to pics of your army!

Well I fielded what I have today against an army I have never fought before, much less ever seen; The Daemons.

DOW/Annihilation. 2,500pts

Lost 7 killpoints to his 8 in five turns. But I did manage to kill TWO Daemon Princes, something that looked like a defiler affected by Nurgle, a squad of plague bearers, one squad of badies mounted on some nasty looking mounts, a squad of flamers (nasty things killed an entire squad of GH in turn one), and one squad of his standard badies with blades. I also took Bloodthirster down to one Hit Point! With what I had left compared to what he had I think I could have taken him, he had two squads of his standards (one had already suffered some casualities (2 or 3), a squad of plague bearers (down from ten to five), one more of those mounted squads (3 models only), and one HP on Bloodthirster.

He in turn nailed my Bloodclaws, a Wolf Priest, my Landraider (proxy as a LR Crusader), an Iron Priest, and four squads of Grey Hunters. I still had a Razorback with turret mounted LC (TLPG had already been knocked out), a Rhino with Stormbolter, two Venerable Dreadnaughts, four squads of Grey Hunters (minus seven casualities), and three squads of Long Fangs (minus two ML that had bitten the dust). Plenty of PC and ML, even a LC left there.

He wouldve taken at least two turns to get into CC with most of my troops allowing my LF and Razorback a lotta shooting.

Not bad, considering this was my first time out with the army.

What do you think?

If I had remembered to have my BC and Wolf Priest shoot before the charge then they may have taken out Bloodthirster for a tie game, but a strategic victory as that wouldve taken out ALL of my opponents HQ! My mistake.

So did the SW not have access to the Thunderfire Cannon or ????

No cannons. If you can't find it in our codex we don't use it

Also why does the Land Raider carry 12 SM in C:SM, but only 10 in C:SW?

Because we haul kegs of ale around?

Nobody has a good answer for this but the most common rumor is things will be fixed with a later update and all SM chapters will have the same transport capacity. In the meantime use Crusaders and Redeemers. They work perfectly with our assault style

There's a couple pelts and skins that come with the Chaos Mauraders, and there's a Chaos Beastmen banner is ever-popular with us Space Wolf players, since it's a big animal skin on a stick. Axes, runeswords and hammers come from the Warriors of Chaos models, and are worth looking at.

Some of the empire greatswords look nice in Space Wolf hands, as well as the unique hammer that the Empire General kit has (and while you're at it, one of the heads in the same kit is very beardy.) Empire Cannon/mortar kits also have a beardy, bandaged head that I used for a Wolf Scout.

A few axes for my wolves come from Reaper weapon packs.

Forgeworld also makes ( or made, dunno anymore) a Space Wolf Terminator kit, which is meant to be used with the vanilla marines Terminator kit to make some big bad Wolves who have pelts, charms and runes all over them. I got this kit cheap, but with the new SW Terms out, I wouldn't bother with buying it at regular sale price.

So did the SW not have access to the Thunderfire Cannon or ????

While the Thunderfire was something I wanted at first, I soon realized that the blasted thing wouldn't work out well with our "IN YOUR FACE WITH AN AXE!" assault style. The entry for the Thunderfire cannon also states that it is intened more for a defensive style, which is something vanilla marines can pull off better than we can.

However, I want one for Apocalypse, because I can have one and no one will care. I already have a Baneblade, six Leman Russes, a Basilisk, a Valkyrie and two Hellhounds to use to supply the hardest-hitting firepower to compliment the Space Wolves, so the TF Cannon can advance with them.

  • 3 weeks later...

Heh heh heh

Just got the SW box set.

One carried the 3rd company standard but I hacked it off and gave him a chainsword now. Will be building my second BC squad from the boxed set.

One of my old Assault Marines back pack wouldnt give up the ghost and his torso ripped off in such a way that the upper half will be used for a casuality objective marker now. Saved the legs and had enough torso's to resurrect the model as a tough looking BC now.

Will rock five Wolf Scouts with Sniper rifles (hey its my list), and five more with CCW.
