A Grand Saga (or a lack of one)

Hello, fellow drunkards and members of the Fang, i was poking around the other chapters forums looking for for signs of doom (*cough* blood angels*cough*) and while i failed to find anything new, i did find that almost every other chapter has a thread with links to resources for that chapter, then poking around our forum i found none! i shudder to think why with all the great sagas of our chapter that we have no thread exclusively for the purpose of people linking their strategy's, insights, and lists, for the envy and help of all others.

for example take the Black Templars, in their forum i found a thread that linked about 15-20 separate articles that dealt with how they operate and tips on how to play them on the battlefield. those dress wearing panzies have their own guide on how to make war and yet we the noble warriors of the fang do not?

i will refrain from putting my own stratagems in here as i am no tactical genius, but some of you out there must know a thing or to about bring the pain to the enemies of the Imperium and when necessary the imperium itself. so fellow space wolves I invite you to join a Great Hunt, not to scour the galaxy for signs of Russ (though that is a far more important task), but to scour the web and forums for the articles that you feel show what the space wolves can do and how to do it, be it placing a few final brush strokes or a using the Long Fangs to drench the enemy in templates. Simply post them in this thread and i will add the links to this post and perhaps we can build our own great saga.

to start out ill add a link to a very good space wolf blog (not mine) that perhaps can provide a few articles on tactics but remember every member of the fang fights in his own way, so go out and return with variety

Yeah, I'v also noticed a lack of tactica on playing space wolves, I was going to create a couple of threads in the future showing stuff like;

Evolution of my army list

Well written and Well photographed battle reports showing how each game was won, and an end analysis (Very much like my friends Orks when they first came out; http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=28358)[mine are the Eldar :D)

I know I get very bored just reading through battle reports and seeing no pictures. bringing out the sort of damage units inflict onto each other and successful combat actions go far in demonstrating a units potential. Something like a weekly battle report written in this fashion could at least give something to read that fun.

Would I be allowed to post battle reports in this section or are they totally meant for the bat rep section?

Thats the great compilation thread. Right there in the stickies.

why didn't I see that? ;)

Because your a new bloodclaw who hadnt even heard of this forum when that post was put up oh-so-many years ago?

*shrugs* dont worry about it. FAQ has a different meaning to people now I figure, but one thing that hasnt changed: 7 years ago there were people whos only real conversation for the month was "check the stickies".

They were called 'moderators' and they walked among us like gods :).

Those tactics up to date? I mean the unit composition has changed slightly (in regards to special close combat weapons, special weapons, banners and MoW to name a few) along with points costs and rules, surely this could result in new Tactical uses, though rushing forward and smacking the enemy in the face seems to work slightly better these days.

As an aside I did love Fenrir Sureblade's tactical analysis, nice layout and pretty useful, not so much anymore but still a nice reference.

Hey Grey Mage what happened to that thread with all the modular 750pt army lists? That was a pretty cool thread.

One of the reasons there aren't grand tacticas for the Space Wolves is we can do too many play styles and it all comes down to player preference usually. We can't even agree over whether we like Blood Claws or Grey Hunters more let alone how to kit out Wolf Guard, to Pack Leader or not to Pack Leader and so on and so forth. Which is how it should be I think.

Good idea Vash, Ill see if I can find it- but remember, thats 3rd ed too.

edit: IIRC it was moved to the army list section and left to drift to the bottom :S.

Nope- I was wrong:

STEP RIGHT UP! See the 9nth wonders of the world! The FOUR Assault Cannon Drop Pod of DOOM!. Marvel at the inclusion of MM attack bikes in their OWN squadrons! Try to unravel the conundrum of 6 strong grey hunter packs with TWO powerfists. Marvel at the audicity of a Wolf Priest who can take out Marneus Calgar on the Counter-CHARGE!

yeah i saw that thread when i first started space wolves, both the modular 750 lists and the tactica compilation, thing is tho like most of the resources out there they all use the old text, i have found about 10 sites/threads that provide great insight to how to play space wolves, but our new dex is very different from the old one.

a few examples:

Blood Claws- went from feared warriors to crying puppies, ok a little harsh but yes

Ven. Dread.- not an HQ anymore

TWC- New unit

LF- now usable, cheaper weapons,

Grey Hunters- so much better and cheaper

Rune priest- got a boatload of physic kickass but got the new marine libarian statline, did pick up a Force weapon and physic hood for cheap tho

Wolf priest- no apothecary like rules any more, oath of war added, worse statline

Wolf lord- better statline no longer 0-1

WGBL, not a WG any more (no more 4 asscans ^_^ ) better stats IIRC,

Wolf claw, MOTW, Thunder wolf- new/revamped wargear

WG- no more 0-20, actaully can take them as seperate sqauds, change in war gear options

Wolf scouts- more than one unit can BEL, can take some ICs with em now

wolf pelts, gone :D no more 7 attacks when charged

Land raider redeemer added

cheaper rhinos and razorbacks

4 HQ's now no more 1 per 750

sagas

Feniserian wolves added as a unit

rules for wolves with characters changed a bit

new counter attack rules

Good idea Vash, Ill see if I can find it- but remember, thats 3rd ed too.

You forgot 3 PF in a 11 man BC squad with a WGPL added for one more PF.

Yea a lot of little things changed, but all things told my Armies tactics and applications didn't change... at all. Not one bit to be honest. Still got Land Raider Crusaders full of Blood Claws, Rhinos full of Grey Hunters, Wolf Guard kitted for assault, I even managed to keep 2 Heavy Weapons in my Wolf Guard Terminators, Pack Leaders didn't really change in application either, we even kept most of our old wargear that was still effective such as Frost Blades, Wolf Tooth Necklaces and Wolf Tail Talismans. Grey Hunters are just as verastile as they've always been they just have slightly different kit to do it, and Blood Claws are still shock troops, if not as cheap as they used to be.

Even the really new things like Thunderwolves, Fenresian Wolf Packs (not new to 13th Company players) and Lone Wolves aren't all that new. Thunderwolves have a lot of the same applications as 13th Company Wulfen did and Fenresian Wolves work much the same now as they used to. Lone Wolves are much the same as the suicidal Wulfen models we used to field. New tactics haven't really come into play, just modifications and slightly different applications given different wargear options.

The major things we lost were always the cookiest, most outrageous things like 4 Assault Cannon Drop Pod units, 4 Power Fist Blood Claw Packs and so forth.
