Bjorn no longer the eldest!

So apparently Bjorn is no longer the eldest marine still living. According to the Furioso entry under Dreadnoughts in the new BA 'dex: "Furioso Dreadnoughts are the most venerable of all. Many bear the scars earned during the Battle for the Emperor's Palace, ten millennia ago." So some BA marines were already Dreadnoughts when Bjorn was still galavanting around in mere skin.

How annoying. :cuss

Just another reason that Matt Ward is a complete idiot.

Though I suppose its worth stating that just because the dreads chassis is ancient doesnt mean the marine inside is even 200.

It's just wrong if Bjorn isn't the oldest marine still 'alive'. It looks like reading up on the Horus Heresy has had a big effect on young Mr Ward, as it's seemingly referenced after every five words in the BA fluff now. The Dreadnought's various chassis themselves being 10,000 years old, I can be fine with, as so would be some of the battle barges, Land Raiders, etc that the 1st Founding Legions owned. Actual Marines living for that long inside them, though, is a bit of a stretch, as it's long been established that Bjorn is the oldest.

Even from a BA fan and player, this is dumb.

I'm pretty sure that's the chassis it's referring to. No need to freak out, Wolves. Get a chew toy out and I'll get the Ordo Hospitaller to rub your bellies or something.

Yes please! :)

But it was a tad alarming to hear. And at least our Dreads aren't crazy

.... Fine... but that Hosputaller had better hurry up, I have an appointment for my walkies coming up.

There's so much crappy fluff in that codex, starting with Mephiston and ending with this, that I think it will be classified as apocrypha if common sense still exists at GW.

wait till you saw the fluff and rules for the Sanguinor , i bet you'd laugh so hard while watching DBZ

Bjorn is still the oldest warrior in the Imperium. Says right there in our codex.

Matt Ward is a lazy, dumb, writer. The stuff he writes is done with an outlandishness reserved for fanfiction, and I would also not be surprised to find out if he was also a fan of anime.

The only interpretation we can possibly gleam from his dumbness is that the dread chasis date back to the Horus Heresy. Because our codex right there says Bjorn is the oldest warrior in the Imperium.

It has to be the age of the machine itself, not the pilot.

If the pilot were a veteran of the Heresy, he'd be named. Even the Blood Angels are not so chockablock full of vaunted warriors that a ten thousand year veteran doesn't merit a named model.

Clearly the phenomenon exists, but does it have a name? Something like "Fluff Creep"?

It seems each successive Codex describes that particular race, army, chapter, etc. as either the lone force preventing the Imperium's complete and utter collapse, or the unstoppable machine that will splatter the entire galaxy just as soon as GW releases the plastic model kits for them.

I can see now when the Dark Eldar come out: "These depraved Eldar bullied Slaanesh into not eating their souls."

Then when the Necrons come out: "golly teh Emperor iz akshually Necron!!!!1111LOLZ Gotcha!!"

OMGOSH OTT fluff in a marine codex!? Cause it's not like wolves don't have anything silly either... oh wait.. wolves riding wolves, Land Raiders 20000 leagues under the sea, a(based on wolves recruiting process) 14 year old boy bedding dozens of women in one night and then(after being a marine) single handedly taking out a whole waaagh(was a funny story but still). Yes I do agree some of the fluff is WT <_< but not as much as everyone is making it out to be. Just need to think about it for a minute and perhaps take a few deep breaths.

Okay, Mephiston and his Tyranid escapade is the only thing I consider to be super ridiculous, everything else with enough thought(Emperor forbid anyone knows how to do that anymore) is not that bad. Yes, some does contradict earlier fluff(Angels as honor guard for Emp during crusade) but still. This nerd rage is laughable and I find it to be not well grounded, especially for those who haven't seen the codex or read it themselves yet. I've read enough of people taking certain phrases from character's fluff and twisting it or taking it out of context to make the character seem worse then it is.

/rant over.

P.S. I'm not trying to defend Ward, personally I hate his biased "Everyone wants to be like the Smurfs/Me" attitude with writing.

Sure sounds like it... and I think we know what were talking about here.

Bjorn has been the oldest surviving dreadnaught-pilot for about 20 years of GW fluff, since the SW codex came out as the first of the 2nd ed line. He may have been before that, but Im not sure- perhaps a wiser rune priest can give you that info.

To object to that being casually cast aside by an idiotic narcissist is not beyond reason eh?

I see no Nerd Rage here.

It just seems silly that Bjorn is confirmed as the oldest Loyalist still alive and then they bring something out that potentially contradicts it.

An Lukas didn't single-handedly take out a Waagh! He had Skyclaw support <_<

I must admit that comment gave me a chuckle <_<

Let's watch the bashing of the BA dex. We have lots to be happy with our dex. Let our brothers(and sisters)share the glory.

I think the overall quality of fluff in the dexes is diminished. I blame this on GW marketing and Merret(as he must approve the fluff) than any one writer.

Nah, I still blame the writer <_<

Sorry but this guy has repeatedly come out with stuff that borders on the rediculous! Sure it has to go through approval but still, junk put through a filter still comes out junk.

This might be a bit harsh, there is a lot in the new BA dex that I am happy about for all those who play them. There is a lot of good in it it just seems to me that on this issue he looks a lot like a kid jumping up and down crying that his dad can beat up everyone elses dad, just doesn't speak well for the guy.
