Your Always, and Nevers...

always ignore people opinions on the internet about what units are good and what units are not, because there usually wrong

always put fun before anything else

never make my army look exactly the same as every clone army people suggest on the net

ALWAYS Give your opponent a complete run down of your list, characters and war gear.

NEVER forget to take something silly. My landraider crusader is now known as the short bus for housing 14 blood claws and a wolf guard. And watching an opponent get "Short Bus-ted" NEVER EVER gets old.

Never walk away from home ahead of your axe and sword.

Always die with your wounds to the fore.

Dude, that rocks pretty hard. Colour me infinitely impressed. My small but growing chapter of Fuzzy Badasses may need to steal that and make it a motto.

Only using fully painted armies and putting some elbow grease into it. I saw an entire model proxied with just a base, no legs, no guns, no basing on top, just a base.

I disagree with this completely, i have 2k points of orks, 2k points of pups, and 1300 of crons. of which i have (painted) probably 200 points of pups, 600 points of orks and 800 points of necrons...if youre saying you wouldn't play with me, then quite frankly i wouldnt want to play with you.

* Always be gracious to a defeated or dispirited opponent. If the game is only fun for half of the table then offer to call the game. This usually means if your having a poor game the courtesy will be returned, or at the very least lessen the blow for your opponnt.

* Always play for the fun. I stopped tourney play cause i was getting many wins under my belt, but little fun. I lost good opponents due to playing ruthless.

* Never coddle new players. Instruct them, aid them yes. But throwing games and undue praise is insulting to you and them.

WLK

Never, ever stay within six inches of the table edge if the opponent has a reserve that can outflank, cuz he will put that sucker somewhere where it will hurt. A LOT!

Blow up Deftkopters as soon as they show up, they are just plain ANNOYING!

Figure out a good way for Space Wolves to take out Nids before I field my SW army.

i wouldnt play you mainly because warhammer world dont allow unpainted armies on their tables however i also wouldnt play you because it just doesnt seem fair ive put months of effort into painting my army,

800pts of necrons painted? I also have about 2k necrons, If I had another 2k necrons I could easliy paint them all in 4 Hrs. Completely based and painted 8 hrs. Necrons Are the easiest army to paint. You Drybrush metal and put a little green on the eyes. Done. 20 Warriors 40 mins.

Wolves. Not as easy, but 10 GHs can be painted and based in about 4 Hrs. Easy.

I used to make excuses too when I was younger, I'd say, I'm never gonna paint these. 6 years later I felt really stupid showing my unpainted army next to a fully painted army and I vowed to never do it again. I will not enter a Game Shop now with an unpainted Army. I am proud to say I have never entered an tourney with a non painted Army. Now that doesn't mean I won't play with unpainted or proxy models at home, but you look like a complete buffoon playing serious with an unpainted Army.

So. Always Bring Grey Hunters

Never bring an unpainted Army to a serious Competition. Especially if it is OK to do so.

Don't Be Late or Ontime to a Tourney, Only be early.

Always have fun. Part of what I enjoy so much about 40k is that this is the first competitive environment where winning isn't my primary concern. Some of my fondest battles are the ones where I didn't dominate. Most notably was last Monday, where I ended up in a draw because of poor rolls. But it was a lot of fun.

Never let the odds dictate your choices. Sure, it may be smart, but what's fun? Like...sending Logan by himself to fight an Avatar and 10 Guardians. He won, so worth it.

And this final tip is something that holds true to anything you do, 40k, work, family, all of it...

Sure, it's "just a game." But integrity is a quality of character that no one can take from you, only you can give it away. So be fair, be respectful, and be honest. Winning, fame, money, glory, etc. are all things that fade, but always hold on to your integrity and conduct yourself as such.

always try and keep the game going. don't get bogged down in pontless rules lawyering. if a problem crops up roll a dice and carry on playing.

always have coke and/or nachos on hand (would say beer but some people have to drive)

@ jjfelber and simo429, i don't play tournaments nor do i play at warhammer world but i am slowly painting my force in between real life and working full time. i also heavily convert the vast majority of my force and so don't want to paint a unit in 4 hours because in my opinion it would detract from the overall quality of my army, would you guys seriously refuse to play me, lol. it just seems strange that people are so quick to inuslt others for a perceived lack of effort because they haven't got their army fully painted. i personally would never refuse to play someone based on the completion of their army maybe thats just me being old fashioned.

i can certainly see that having two fully painted armies on a fully painted table with fully painted scenery would be better visually but the actual game played is not improved by the completion of armies instead it is the attitude of the players that improves the game itself.

Always take my Rune Priest terminator and two full packs of Grey Hunters.

Blood Claws with jump packs are better than Blood Claws without jump packs (tried them out last night).

Painting is good, it shows respect for the hobby, and while I would play against unpainted armies (I've done so) but I'd like to see progress made on the painting front.

Things are more relaxed where I play. Unpainted, substitute boxes for raiders...etc..That said I stopped myself from playing until I can get at least my troops painted.

Always remember my key elemets of being a commander: Speed, Aggression, Surprise (Where from I wonder ;))

Always be friendly, polite and gracious to your opponent.

Never give in

Never allow any flank/speartip to falter.

Always Remember that Artillery is actually pretty accurate (for once)

Never forget, the dice gods hate my meltaguns...

Always put your name on your books, blast templates etc.

Always put your models back in the case the same way, so you can see if any are missing.

Always check under the table before closing your bag.

Always put your phone number and a polite "If lost please call" label on your army bag.

Always say thanks to the host.

Always be sympathetic to non-gamers who indulge us!

(Can you tell I'm a parent of a school-age kid?!)

1). Never spend more than 150pts on a hq units. Exceptions: HQ squads, special characters, Wolf Lords (Saga of the bear and belt of russ, must have).

2). One scoring unit per 500pts of game.

3). Always have a Power fist (or similar) in a squad that is either fearless and/or going to be fighting on the front lines. Wraith lords, Dreds and othe rhigh T nasties will chew through youre mobs. Not to mention it is really annoying when my freinds think they have won combat only for my fist to put them in thier place.
