Revitalising my BA

Quick update, painting the last strokes on the second half of my DC. And it's almost 3:30 AM here so I really need to go to bed soon. :)

I'll take proper pictures at my store tomorrow, when the models are based, done and varnished.

Thanks for looking!

Got the remainder of the Death Company done, pictures didn't turn out too great.

I'm really happy with how the bare-headed marine turned out. I converted the thunderhammer to be held one-handedly so that I could give him a bolter too. Also, this model was the first time ever that I managed to paint reflections into the eyes, ontop of the irises. You can't see it in these crappy pictures, though... :ermm:

DarkMark, I considered making them a bit more colourful but in the end, I opted for the limited palette. I think it's just enough colour to not make them look bland, but I see where you're coming from.

IronKobra, the parchment is Dheneb Stone washed with Devlan Mud, then built up to Dheneb Stone again in 1-2 layers, then highlighted with VMC Ivory (could use Bleached Bone plus white) mixed into the Stone. I used the same paints on the larger bone areas, only with 1-2 more layers to make the transition less harsh.

The purity seals themselves are Mechrite Red, highlighted with 2-3 mixes of Mech plus VMC Old Rose (yould use Tanned Flesh) and washed with Devlan Mud in the end.

I built a Razor/Rhino for the DC yesterday, might spray it and start painting it today. I also started building HG and VV, 5 of each. I'm entering a 40K campaign in February and need to get some stuff done until then! :Elite:

OK, got a Razorback for the DC now. Just sat down and got it over with yesterday night. Three hours from primer to varnish.

And here they are in their new home, a cosy cabinet at my local GW.

Someone asked for an army shot on Warseer, so here's everything that's 100% finished so far.

The Sanguinor is not mine.

Next up are some more assault marines, need to get that squad up to ten ASAP. After that, VV. Got 5 built now and an honour guard with banner and typical HG shenanigans. And maybe, some day, I'll get around to finishing those Land Raiders...

Looks good, but you need to arm that bad boy with a twin-linked heavy flamer. No additional points cost and it works sweet since you want your DC up close anyway.

A quick WIP shot of my Vanguard so far:

Pic's even more dodgy than usual I guess, but hey. A bit of work left on the powerfist guy, the other two are done except for their packs. Got the sarge and another PW guy to do after these.

What do you think about the all-white pauldron? I was afraid at first that it might be too bold but I kind of like it at the moment. It's supposed to fit with the right guy's knee pad, white field with three blood drops, which I took from this:

Fare well fellow Angels, I am off to the painting cave again!

white pauldron is absolutely amazing! basically the heraldry from the space hulk terminators applied to an assault squad!

can't wait for more!

Glad you like them so far. ;) I hope to get the demisquad done by Christmas.

Jorre, the black on the DC is just Chaos Black with a single VMC Dark Grey highlight. I used Chaos Black to clean up the spots I botched. On all other models, VMC German Grey was applied before the Dark Grey to make the edge smoother.

I think I posted my red recipe somewhere in this blog.

OK, got to leave house for an hour and "socialise". ;) But after that, it's back to painting, weee!

tagsta, the Razor is going to stay as it is. I like the regular tanks a little less blingy, rather trying to make them look a bit gritty and realistic. Also, I'm a lazy git. :to:

Brother Nathan, I should have been more precise. These aren't mere Vanguard Veterans but the Blood Angels' true elite, 1. Company Veteran Assault Marines just posing as Vanguard. :P

Or more seriously - Veteran ASM have always had yellow helmets, and only the new 5. Ed. Codex changed both Tactical and Assault veterans to golden helmets. I'm sticking with the old scheme, painting VV with yellow helmets, SV with red helmets and HG with golden helmets and otherwise red. People will be able to recognise which squads are Vets and which aren't by looking at the amount of bling and special armament.

You'll find that I also paint all shoulder guard rims black, also in line with the old Blood Angels paint scheme.

Oh, he's landing with his jump pack. Looks fine in person, it might look better on the pictures once I glue the backpack on.

Mister Powerfist is done, so I'm starting the sergeant now. If I knuckle down I could have the squad done tomorrow night.

Mr. Ancient God, your models are excellent. Your colors are spot on and I think you have quite a bit of brush control. I really like the eyes, those are perfect. I am also a fan of how you have done the black. Simple and effective and it catches the eye quite nicely. I like how it isn't overdone. Do you just edge highlight, or is there some blending in there? Regardless, it is well done to say the least.

I am going to go against the grain on the white pauldron however and here is why. There is nothing wrong with the white in my opinion, it is like all your other colors, expertly executed. In my opinion it is the next to the yellow that is making that one piece a tad bright. Maybe if you quartered it? I hope you don't take the criticism harshly because I am a fan of your work, it's all great. I was just responding to the question you had asked in the post above. I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Obey the Emperor.
