Hrothgar Beastslayer
I recently bought some snow flock from Galeforce Nine, but i am having difficulty getting it to work. First off im using white craft glue but when i dip the base in the flock, i can still see black on the base in between.Should i base it white first? Just thought i'd ask here since the fang probably see's more snowy bases then those pansy dark angels. MechSpacewulf
The glue dries clear, you can add some white paint to it or paint the top of the base. Check out my gallery, I made clear resin bases to mimic ice and then used blue and green washes to give it an ice hue and then flocked it with snow and pva glue to let the base almost be seen. Gerwulf
I use a mix of two different techniques. - Mix bicarbonate (dirt cheap from any groceries store) with white glue. You can add some water if you want the snow to have a wetter look. - Smear the mixture on your base and flock normally with snow flock. Not the best picture but it will do for now: Winter base Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196449-space-wolf-snowy-bases/#findComment-2340520 Share on other sites
Mar Bloodaxe
I found that using the snow flock with a water effect liquid, a dollop of white paint, and a dash of pearl medium, makes for realistic snow. legless_al
Yep always always paint the base white first, otherwise you'll have a slightly off white base. After that you can yuse which every snow recipy you preffer, baking soda/flock/sugar with pva/water effect/gloss or matt varish. Any and all of these work well and if you want smooth icey snow then smooth over and if you want fresh crisp snow you can re dip in your chosen dry medium after you've finished or wait for it to dry and then add again for those deeper snow drifts. Dont forget your vehicles either, I saw a fantastic diorama by a chinese with directional snow effect and melted ice where exhausts and vents were that looked great. ooh for light snow effect on buildings try watered down pva glue and a windoleen spray bottle, spray directionally and then sprinkle with flock There we go thats all I know!! kapturowski
I usually start of with some modelling sand and paint it up, then I add the snow flock on top of the sand leaving some of it showing through. I think it looks more interesting than if you completly cover the base with snow. Like this. clanfield
if your looking for a artic white use a very pale (ice blue) blue under it and bakeing soda is much cheaper for snow Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196449-space-wolf-snowy-bases/#findComment-2341125 Share on other sites
