TopToffee
Thought I'd throw a few pics of my Wolves up, see what people thought... also looking for some advice/thoughts/suggestions on a possible build for my new Wolf Lord (see the end of this post) Up first, my Ragnar (shamelessly stolen from a much more talented converter on these boards) http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/9621/17012010026.jpg Njal http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/1806/23032010039.jpg FW Ven. Now for the advice... What are peoples' thoughts on this.... http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/3701/31032010042.jpg Is the axe too much? And if it looks ok, what's the best way of incorporating a storm shield into the mix? Cheers brothers! TopToffee
Good looking models. thanks Token... they're not going to win any awards, but they're passable on the tabletop I think The axe is cool and yes a shield on his back is also cool so that's one vote for the axe  That's what I thought for the shield... just not sure how to do it without it looking like it's just "stuck" there... Sarapham
Looks very good I must say. I only have one negative thing and that is the laurel on Ragnar´s kneepad... let the Ultras keep those  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196506-my-growing-wolf-pack/#findComment-2341308 Share on other sites

Kenmichi
Curious, is it the photography or different paint techniques because your Ragnar paint job looks a lot different from the Wolf Guards in TDA with the flash on. The WG paint job looks smoother and more thorough while Ragnar looks a little chunky? Maybe it's just the angle. Despite this I think they look very good, your flesh tone is very nice, would you mind sharing your paint method? I love the dirty and gritty look, also care to share your method for that as well? I'm trying to achieve that look with my Wolves (when my school life becomes less consuming and allows me a day or two to paint) and so I'm comparing a few different methods to work with the best method for me. Ullr Direfang
I only have one negative thing and that is the laurel on Ragnar´s kneepad... let the Ultras keep those :P I could handle the reasoning behind the Laurel as he was a Wolf Blade and is pay some form of respect there (aka i don't think it really takes away from the model). But the models look good, and i agree that if you can work a shield onto his back it would look good. Nadir
Leave the ase as it is. Shield on the back, or mounted on the right forearm. Love models and colours. What colours did you use? I'm trying to achieve that look with my Wolves (when my school life becomes less consuming and allows me a day or two to paint) and so I'm comparing a few different methods to work with the best method for me. they all look pretty similar in the "flesh"... so it's probably down to my massively poor photography... as for the painting technique, that a few have asked about... i REALLY wish i could say it required huge amounts of talent, and hours and hours of painting time... but that would be a lie :) The models were primed black, then sprayed with Montana Gold "Kilimanscharo", which provides the basecoat for the armour... the armour was then given a fairly rough highlight with Space Wolf Grey. Then <insert drum roll> they were dipped in Army Painter Strong Tone..... I know it's cheating, but I just don't have the time to spend untold hours painting... plus, even if I did, I'm not sure I have the talent to get them looking any better tbh Also, think someone asked about the bases... they're from Iron Halo...and they're undercoated with black, then heavy drybrushed with Fenris Grey, highlighted with Space Wolf Grey and finally Skull White... The edging is graveyard earth Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196506-my-growing-wolf-pack/#findComment-2342275 Share on other sites
Silverwolf
Personally, I'd pose the WG with that massive axe holding the axe vertical, the base of it's shaft resting on the ground, with a large storm shield in a similar position, but with his other hand holding the top of the storm shield, stabilising it as he surveys the battlefield, ready to pick it up and charge in. I thought about doing that with the axe.... only problem is, while it doesn't necessarily look it when held horizontal, it's actually about 1/3 longer than the marine is tall... so having it stood up alongside him looks a little daft :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196506-my-growing-wolf-pack/#findComment-2342296 Share on other sites
Silverwolf
Stick him standing on a rock/ledge with the base of the axe resting on the lower ground below? EDIT: WAIT!! Even better :), grab a Chaos termie, or some other big nasty chunky model, and pose him standing on it's corpse . Mean looking axe like that deserves a decent foe.
