Wolves Robbed Again

I heard many cries of dismay from my brothers when the new dex failed to include our Leman Russ Exterminators. I painstakingly built and painted mine (Not something I'm particularly good at, but I wanted it to be a centerpiece) and then found out I couldn't field it. Oh well I thought GW are just trying to standardise all Marine tanks.

But then I get a preview of the new BA dex and to my suprise they keep their Baal Pred. Not only that, but they apparently have so many Land Raiders they can afford to deep strike them by dropping them from a Thunderhawk transporter. I started to feel the Wolves had drawn a short straw again

But then GW has compounded their crime against us by announcing the next supplement for 40K is Spearhead which is focused on .............. TANK BATTLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know to many this will just sound like sour grapes, but have we Wolves been robbed by GW yet again? or will they suprise us with some tank goddies in the second wave?

I think our dex is soo chock full of goodies I get dismayed when folks complain that we don't have "x" or "y".

Remember the Leman Russ is an IG tank. It was expected we would lose that ever since I joined the hobby in 04. The Baal Pred is a SM vehicle. They were never expected to lose that.

For a bit of perspective. Start a thread in the other SM forums with a title similar to..."Do you think SW's have too many goodies" and you'll get the opposite reaction to yours. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Yeah, robbed by GW, and all they left you was a stonkingly cool codex with awesome characters and a great, fluffly, really traditionally space wolfy feel to it - my heart bleeds!

I think it was a mistake to include the Leman Russ Exterminator originally, tbh, but I can understand your pain over losing an awesome centrepiece model, as well as an effective war machine.

The primary theme behind all Space Marines has been and forever will be "shock troops". In the modern era this is primarily performed with tanks as primary support, for reference look at any 20th century war (Maybe sans Vietnam) involving a 1st or 2nd World Country. However, in the 41st Millennia we aren't restricted to ground combat like we are in the modern era, space has provided us with orbital bombardments of troops. Despite the fact that these heavily armored suits make each individual Space Marine almost as powerful as a modern day tank, undoubtedly these suits allow the wearers to operate in inhuman conditions, IE: being launched from a Drop Pod in space into the solid crust of the target planet to survive the impact. Why do you think Guardsmen don't have access to Drop Pods? When you can precisely, surgically, and tactically insert highly trained and exceptionally geared warriors wherever you want, tanks are just icing on the cake.

1: exterminators were never yours, you didn't have them before the minidex and rightfully don't have them now, they are imperial guard tanks, NOT space marine tanks.

2: Baal predators have been theirs allot longer and rightfully have kept them.

I understand what your saying- and frankly the Baal shouldnt be brought into this, but that doesnt change that we had that tank in our arsenal for 10 years, longer than the 2nd edition codex was legal by a good bit. I think its pretty understandable that people got used to having it- its been with the space wolves for a long time.

you need to look at the bigger picture and everything else we have in the codex. Don't be ungrateful with what we have. I laugh at all those tanks when I field my wolf scouts, not to mention Rockfist with other WG on a drop pod, or a Thunderwolf Wolf Lord with SS and TH. HA I say HA!

Eh, my old custom built Exterminator shall sit on my display shelves proudly still carrying the Space Wolf colours. But the Iron Priests have decreed that such Exterminators as remain in the arsenal of the Space Wolves must be kept in reserve for the Wolf Time.

I have to say... the Blood Claws are happy with the news, means more kills for them... assuming the Long Fangs don't decide to entertain themselves by destroying any unit the Blood Claws decide to charge :)

I dunno. They have alot of flash goodies but they are more points wise. I costed out an equivilent razorback army like the one I currenly run and it was waaaay more in points.

and they dont have thunderwolf cav. I cannot say enough about how they have performed for me. It brings tears of joy.

If you think , SW have it bad, you should see how long DA's straw was... .

I personally like your new codex, in comparison with the new C:BA.

And a year ago which codex was more up to date? I wouldn't really complain until you get a new codex. And who knows, they might have a mastermind like Ward write it for you :)

I do agree though, I like our codex a lot! Having the Leman Russ dropped was kind of a bummer but there is so much good in it that, well, almost six months later is the first time I've heard anyone complain about it.

Its called a Baal Predator ...

It is a Leman Russ Tank, in case anybody missed it, the tank is named after our Primarch.

We Should have access to at least one type of Leman Russ.

Now let me clarify. I think our Dex is great and we don't need a tank. But to kinda have a tank out there named after our primarch and our chapter not have access to a version of it is kinda silly.

I understand from a balance aspect they took it out of our new dex even though it was in the previous one for 10 years.

But they could have left it in and just made it another 40 to 50 pts more expensive. To make is unrealistic to use.

This is no way a whine that we do not have enough goodies but more a complaint of common sense not being used by GW. We were blessed with a great codex.

Just my 2 cents.

I personally agree that the loss of the Leman Russ Exterminator made me a bit upset. Because I enjoyed fielding one back in 3rd edition because it really showed how non-codex and how unique they are. While I agree that we did get a lot of goodies and really fluffy and traditional Space Wolf feel to our new codex. I always loved that the Space Wolves got some of those tanks because they are named after our primarch. It just always seemed like a very strong traditional thing the Space Wolves had.

I normally use mine as a "Dakka Predator" for now, just taking one heavy bolter off the front and knocking the armor down.
