igotsmeakabob!!
So now that I have the boxes in front of my, I've set to the task of assembling a Sanguinary Priest. It's got me thinking: What do we all plan on giving our Priests, these holy bearers of Sanguinius' blood? Do you plan on bare-bones equipment? 50pts flat, as you don't want to invest more into a 1-wound model? Or do you want to bling them out a bit more, as I plan to? My main rule is to keep them at 75pts or under. The two ideas I have so far are Lightning Claw and CombiPlas, and Power Weapon with a Hand Flamer. I'm sure I'll get around to making a third with a jump pack or (less likely) bike.. but I already have Corbulo standing there, ready to roll. Quantra
My plan will be to take a jump pack so they can keep up with my squads and nothing else. Try and keep them second row in a 10 man squad, so they won't get into combat but won't get picked off either. I did consider taking a power sword for them but I changed my mind. Donkeycow
just a jump pack. If i ever have the points left over i may throw a power weapon on.
Starblayde
I would dearly love to run a SP in Terminator armour and convert one up just like Mark Latham in this month's WD. That one is just too rule of cool for me not to. Otherwise one with a Jump Pack will most likely go along with my elite assault unit, as well as running an RPAS (Razorback Priest Assault Squad) on foot. ancient god
Built two with just pistol/ccw now for inexpensive support. Going to build 1-2 with JPs later, don't know whether or not I want to give them better equipment yet. Will try out the barebone guys first I guess. shatter
I'm going to make a TDA one and will run Corbolo. Should I go for a 3rd, which is likely, it'll be with a magnetised jp which can be removed for a transport version. My thoughts are, expensive or not, they'll be singled out as often as possible by opponents smarter than a carrot.
igotsmeakabob!!
Here's another question for all y'all BA lovers out there... Red armor, white accentuations (trim, robes, etc) or vice-versa? The former seems to be the traditional way, as that's how Corbulo has always gone along with the old Sanguinary Priests in the Honor Guard. oldschoolmonk
My Sanguinary priests will be naked and hide inside of LRs for a larger bubble. If his ride blows up then Ill will run him to another LR (I run 2-3). Currently my priests are the scouts I was making for the PDF codex. I liked the old scouts in storms, but now Ill keep them on the shelf. THe models are DA robed marines, extended in the torso, filled with green stuff, scout knives and bolt pistols, and Glade Guard heads. This gives me a robed marine in a running pose. Their armor underneath is black, and their robes are red - I play FTs.
shatter
BTW, I've made a couple of grail cups with Green Stuff and the skulls found on some sprues. The AoBR ones with the hole are dead easy to utilise... ie. almost any favoured model can be priest-ified.
JamesI
I have 1 with a jump pack, 1 with jump pack and power weapon, 1 no upgrades (who could also be Corbulo) and will likely get another priest built who will be without upgrades.
Plague Angel
Another power weapon in the squad is nice to have, so if I have the points I always try to give the priest one.
darth_giles
I'm considering Power Weapons and Meltabombs, although the terminator option is kinda tempting with the LRR being able to carry six termies- enough for a minimal assault terminator squad and a terminator sanguinary priest. Logain the Ranger
I'm going to be running at least two priests with hand flamers and power weapons.
Bane of Angels
I'm running mine with the basic model with a jump pack but may use them to add a power weapon to squads. I think that it's easy to go over board on war gear with the blood angels, I'd rather run three of these guys to take maximum advantage of the FNP than one or two geared up priests. Chaplain Admetus
I played my first game with the new codex today, used a priest with power weapon and jump pack. Easily MVP of the game - feel no pain kept the assault squad he was with alive through more pulse rifle fire than was sensible, and the power weapon helped grind through enemy squads. Plan on using him much the same in the future. Also got a bog standard priest if I ever want to use it.
Sanguinarian
Quick question: couldn't the old BA:HG SP's exsanguinator "count as" a power-fist/chain-fist?
HERO
You guys think Corbulo is worth the points? Is he I5?
JamesI
I think Corbulo is worth the points, but I say that in theory only. Haven't playtested him yet.
HERO
If he's I5, he would be worth it. The 2 wounds and 2+ FNP makes me much better than 2 Priests in cost. The far-seeing eye and Heaven's Teeth is just extra toppings.
igotsmeakabob!!
Corbs IS still I5.
Loredragon2
I'm sorry about asking here but im at work and dont have my Codex on me... anyone know if Sanguinary Priests can get both a Powerfist and a Combi-Flamer? Thanks, Loredragon2
soots
they can take a fist, combi: flamer, melta, plasma
JamesI
I highly recommend against a fist on a Sanguinary Priest. 1 wound ICs who strike at initiative 1 will not survive long enough to strike often.
Rybnick
There are a few other BA players at my local game shop and they all seem to be shocked that I kit out my SP's with Power Weapons. When they ask me why, my response is that they are a 50pt investment that can easily be wiped out in combat and an additional 15pt's to help them defend themselves in CC is worth it in my opinion. My question is am I completely on the wrong track here? Does my line of thinking make sense or should I just keep my SP's bare bones and cowering in transports? (I personally hate the notion that they would stay behind in their transport.)
Droofus
I play tested using a power weapon on my SP, but now every time I make a list, I find a better use for those points. The bottom line is that giving him a sword, while nice, just makes him a bigger target. I want to make my opponent choose between trying to reduce my squad and killing the priest. It's a no-brainer for many opponents already to target the priest... I don't want to dissuade those still swinging against my squads. IMO priests are there to be support characters - nothing more. They should be hidden and protected whenever possible
