IronKobra
Little more done. I have really not been as diciplined as I would like on my paining as of late. But my girlfriend told me today to go and do some while the sun was out...Who am I to argue huh? So I have done the white wings that appear all over these models and touched up some other little areas. Enjoy! http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard20.jpg http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard21.jpg http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard22.jpg http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard23.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196745-wip-blood-angels-veterans/page/2/#findComment-2544032 Share on other sites

IronKobra
Thanks a lot guys! The kind words always serve as a kind of motivation to carry on to the next stage. Which will be all the litttle bone areas...Skull decorations and purity seal parchements. Thankfully all those areas are pretty small so that shouldn't take more than a good sunny afternoon/evening. 2 things that are making me a tad nervous are the eyes on the bareheaded dude and the robe/cloth parts. But hey you only get better by being adventurous! IronKobra
Fantastic looking Marines, How'd you do the wings? i'd like to give that method a try as i'm not happy with the wings on my SG Cheers dude. I'm a REALLY slow painter since I'm really overly critical of my own models, but since I don't really play and just paint for the pleasure of it i like to take my time and get them looking as best i can. The wings is actually just the Dark Angels Ravenwing method from GW: - Black Undercoat - Basecoat whole area recesses and all in Fenris Grey (I have only ever done this for these marines) Dont forget to thin the paint! 2 thin coats better than 1 thick, ESPECIALLY at this stage. - Go over the whole area again in Shadow Grey, again, thin coats just to tint it. - 1/2 and 1/2 Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey, leave shadow grey in deeper areas, keep the paint quite thin. - Pure Space wolves grey, thin this and leave a small amount of the previous layer...This creates the blended look. - 1/2 and 1/2 Space Wolves Grey and Skull White, again, thin it down, lightly pull to the edges of the feathers. I haven't got this far yet but ill hit them finally with a very small amount of pure skull white, aimed at the very tips and tops of the feathers. Hope this helps! It will be VERY time consuming on the sang guard wings because of their size, but if you stick with it I'm sure the results will be very cool. IronKobra
A little more work, a little improvement and some new pics for you all to see and give me some insight on. So what more have I done? Not much admittedly. Some minor base details and some touch ups on the highlights of the purity seals wax and parchment parts. The final skull white highlight on the wings and the skulls which has given them a little extra 'Pop' which they needed and I have highlighted the 2 powerfists up to codex grey (will go up to fortress grey I think it is as the final) and done the barrel pieces of the plasma pistols with the first steps of the blue blue I like so much. Anyhoo, here be the pics, please comment as you see fit: Group shots first: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard27.jpg http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard34.jpg Power fist highlighted dudes: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard29.jpg http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard28.jpg http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard24.jpg White wings & skulls: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard25.jpg Glowing plasma barrel: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard33.jpg http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard32.jpg 'Hey, look at that guy' dude: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard26.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196745-wip-blood-angels-veterans/page/2/#findComment-2574782 Share on other sites

This is one of those "labour of love" things presumably :) Looking very sleek mate. Most DEFINATELY! I have said several times before I don't really play but I am well and truely a fan of the fluff and arty side of 40k so painting is really good for me for getting into my own little world and I love doing it and all I can say is I am a Blood Angel through and through! And I have to do our boys proud and give them the love with a brush they deserve. Thanks a lot guys for all the comments! Now I need to plan what to do next with these guys and possibly finish my Moriar conversion which is so close to completion I am kicking myself for not doing it yet :D would be nice to have that done before the new plastic dread we are all expecting lands ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196745-wip-blood-angels-veterans/page/2/#findComment-2574981 Share on other sites

Seva
Good work as usual Iron Kobra. I have always liked your red, it's smooth and not to busy. The gold is top notch as well so good work on being so proficient with two of the more difficult colors to work with. You made mention of what to do next with these guys and I have an idea. I think some free hand names on those scrolls would make these guys look nicer. They already look good but that little detail would really set them apart. Good work on your vets! Obey the Emperor. Thanks Seva! I have enjoyed watching your own BA's coming along and you certainly gave me a fair bit of inspiration with those bad ass assault marines! Yeah the scrolls do need some text... I'll get some on the purity seals in no time but freehand names on the bigger scrolls is gonna take some mental preparation :P Free hand is a whole new experience for me really. Seva
Iron Kobra I will not lie to you, script with a paintbrush is tough but it isn't impossible. I think the way to go is to use one of those micro pens or whatever. I don't use one but I bet it would make the process so much easier. I think the way to do it with the brush is to go slow and to start of using easy to do letters. I think "Baal" makes for a good banner script. You don't have to make the scroll their name. Where is the Moriar banner? I've been away from the forums for a long time so I haven't seen it. Back to the lettering, paint consistency is important. The first couple of times you might not even see what you are writing. That's where the easy letters come into play. Before you know it you will be writing well. I know you can do it. Good luck man I can't wait to see them. Obey the Emperor. IronKobra
Here be a pic of about the only free hand lettering I have done Seva: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPMoriar49.jpg I mean I know I can do legible lettering...I am pretty sure that clarly says 'Moriar' but honestly my girlfriend tells me the font is what is spoilint it haha. Really I agree with her. Not nearly a nice enough script so thisis what I'll have to have some thoughts about. If you have any examples then please put them forward because when the time comes to paint the lettering any help is always appreciated. But thanks for the advise about the micro pen. Really I want to avoid it. My ego as a painter wouldn't allow it haha So I'll so I'll heed your wise words about super thin paint when the time comes...I'll try my hand on the banner on Moriar as it is a slightly bigger surface and I already know what I will have the scroll saying. Thanks again Seva! And Everyone else who is egging me along on this! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/196745-wip-blood-angels-veterans/page/2/#findComment-2576032 Share on other sites

Seva
I think the writing on Moriar is a really good first start. The letter "R" is hard to paint! It's up there in difficulty with "S" and oddly enough, "O" is a tough one as well. I know what you mean by font, it's tough to write calligraphy that is very small on a tiny uneven surface. Keep up the good work. I look forward to the next installment. Oh and Moriar looks good. Nice work on the free hand of the skull on the banner. You have the right idea by starting simple. The skull is top notch. What word will you put on the banner? Obey the Emperor. IronKobra
You're right, the letters with curves like Beyonce are the ones that are really a pain! Its because tips dont like going in curves, they like straight lines. so words like 'BAAL' may not be so much of a struggle. But of course I wouldn't want to repeat that over every scroll surface. Ill have to take a gander through the codex past and present and look for useful words or names. The scrolling on Moriar's banner I was gonna go with 'Morleo' (not sure if I Have spelt that right) but it was his first name so over the model it will say Morleo Moriar. Or I could go for 'Clamorga' as a tribute to his last living battle. Still toying with that for now as I still need to work out how to I am goning to finish the banner as a whole...It needs something but I'm yet to picture in my mind what it is. Seva
What about "Mortis"-- I think that one gets used a bunch but it looks cool. "Hate" would be a good one, but it might be a bit too terse for Blood Angels. Hate is good because it is so easy to spell. Too bad we don't use runes like Space Wolves. Obey the Emperor.
