Eberious
So GW managed to get me to come back to 40k with BA release, wasn't hard. After building a Libby Dread for my local GW and having a good read of C:BA, I decided to give these red wee men a go. After painting dark colors for some time painting red and gold should be fun. Anywyas, enough of the rubbish. I'll start with Dante. Now not a huge fan of nmm and really bright gold suits of war, I have dulled it down. The pics dull it down a bit more so in real life veiw hes a little more golden than he is here. However some what chuffed with the axe blade glow, also picking up highlights on the axe shaft, JP and halo from the blue haze. Still one or two details to go. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05802.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05803.jpg C&C welcome. Doghouse
I really like the dulled down gold as well. It contrasts well with the red and green. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197023-es-blood-angels/#findComment-2348387 Share on other sites
Eberious
Cheers both, Gutted a little this morning when I got up. I added a layer hard coat type varnish to the blade but didn't let the paint dry fully(was dry but I'm guessing it wasnt totaly bone dry) and the blues run into each other. Back to square 1 with the blade. Might try a spacehulk power weapon look. Eberious
So cracking on I decided to recycle a old unused B-Templar dread into a DC Dread. Might not be able to see work that well due to shoddyness of muliated parts. But you get the idea. Hes running, as most nutters with a set of 2 massive claws of death would. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05823.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05824.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05827.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05828.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05830.jpg C&C welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197023-es-blood-angels/#findComment-2350563 Share on other sites
Whitefireinferno
Good work Brother Its the makings of a fine DC dred I have one almost finished but I am at a loss for what to use as blood talons I have 2 sets of hands one set of the stubby fingered ones and one set of the claws both pairs are metal, Im thinking cut all 4 in half so each has 2 fingers per half and make extended talons on the short ones what do you think? Thanks, are they the old S-Wolve Dread claw?. If so might be better looking at another subtistue for the claws and get another stubby fingered fist, could use suitable tyranid claws or get yourself 2 sets of the chaos vehicle spiky ram as thats what I used here. I use bitz sites to get the extra stuff, you might have difficulty find the chaos ram. Just think you'll have a hell of a time cutting metal claws that size and end up with a watsed claw. Eberious
Yah, by all means you could use those as well, but thats just lazy modeling. ^_^ I did concider those, but keeping costs down. They are resin, in my experience with parts as thin as the arms from FW they snap. You could always, remove the thin parts and repalce it with a metal or stronger plastic tube, and add the piston details. Eberious
Lil, update time. I took grapple with the DC dread, hidden in the fist itself. I used a ironclad missile tip. Cut and filed down the head to make itmore square and cut the fins into a sharper edge. Can't see it to well but you get the idea. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05839.jpg Made what would be the workings, reel mechanism and extra tube. Tested it and normaly posed this would have clearance for the dread to move freely as it wasnt there. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05844.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05845.jpg And left arm. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05851.jpg and repalced to front plate and GS blood drip. Still to add battle damage to side plates. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05852.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197023-es-blood-angels/#findComment-2353925 Share on other sites
Eberious
Little update for anyone whos intrested :( While waiting for some moulds to cure for my DC Dread, I decided to go ahead with my Sanguinor conversion. After buying the model and removeing from blister, I was a little disapointed in how tiny the model is(legs and head) the rest is awesome. I thought it needed beefing up a little. So after carefully removing legs and head, I repalced them with bits fromthe SangGuard set. Still to wait for the GS to cure then will sharpen up the armour. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05870.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05871.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05874.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05875.jpg Nothing goes to waste, a mission marker. Alienerd
Best objective marker ever! I too think the sanguinor looks like a sister of battle meets a boy band members head, and your changes are very much improvements Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197023-es-blood-angels/#findComment-2356335 Share on other sites
Eberious
Cheers Alienerd, it was a little boy band for me. Paint update, I'm quite surprised at myself. I'm actulay painting as I build them and not getting distracted by the next model and the next and so on. Although I have my next conversion project already thought out. Was reading some of the recorded battles listed in the C:BA and ping!, I'll make Sepharan leader of the SG. Anyways, painted Dread. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05942.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05945.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05952.jpg Better shot of the grapple spike. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05883.jpg Wasn't going to use this, but the way the light at the back has made this pic look I had to share. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05950.jpg C&C welcome :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197023-es-blood-angels/#findComment-2358112 Share on other sites
Brother Mordeus
I love what you have done. Your sanguinor model is wicked, but i dont think the head fits with the sanguinor idea. Unless your just using him as a normal commander, i would recommend changing the head. Eberious
Thanks Brother Mordeus, a normal commander might be good for a future convrsion. But the head wont be top half bare plan to paint it golden have since put a small edge over and on the back of his head to make look more like a helmet than a bare upper head. Inkeeping with the fluff that no knows who he really is, as I too thought that when I stuck the head on. Quick fix and sorted. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197023-es-blood-angels/#findComment-2358502 Share on other sites

Eberious
Thanks for comments guys. I did concider using SG helmets, wanted a slightly different look from the S guard. The head on it will be made and painted to look like a helmet. Pretty happy with the way looks, looks a little more fierce. Justicar Valius
Love the dread, Maybe makes some of the talon weapons next time? (the ones that give you an extra attack for every wound you cause). I think you could make some ace ones :D The battle damage on the Dread :D It's imense The Sanguinor looks ok but I actually hate the normal model (the, I am Jesus pose, all wings and single thruster jump packs should be binned etc). Also the less he look like Sang guard the better those models are horrible. Eberious
Made Sepharan, nothing to special. Thought a GK's force Halbard would fit nicely with the short fluff in the Dex. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05884.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05885.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05888.jpg And PIP Sanguinor http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC05889.jpg C&C welcome.
