Token
Which part of the plasma cannon is it that gets hot? I might put a pelt over the rear part of that arm, would it burn up? And is it to much pelt to have pelts on both arms? And perhaps on top too? Lord Howland Greywolf
Its the end bit of the barrle and the plasma storage rings (the bits usually are painted blue or otherwise glowy). Token
ok, so putting a pelt on the rear part would work, fluffwise? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197079-what-part-of-the-plasma-is-it-that-gets-hot/#findComment-2348183 Share on other sites
The_Betrayed_Spacewolf
those rings are magnetic coils which hurl the plasma out. the vents are located in the slits near the end of the gun. Demonslayer
Whats it matter just do it :) But if you Start rolling lots of ones for him you'll at least know what the problem is Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197079-what-part-of-the-plasma-is-it-that-gets-hot/#findComment-2348265 Share on other sites
Karack Blackstone
I thought in the newer rules vehicles don't worry about overheating plasma weapons. And PC's are a great troop popper, as even Termies only get an invul save. Just don't put the pelt on the long ridge of rings behind the barrel, or covering the holes on either side just behind the barrel either, and you shouldn't see alot of ones. Ullr Direfang
well first off Karack is right, vehicles don't worry about over heating. and if you really want to get into what "gets hot" on a plasma weapon: Plasma is an ionized gas that is really really hot, at least the form we are talking about in 40k, and conducts electricity very well. so if for some reason the intend plasma "round" had an issue leaving the gun/cannon/pistol ether the heat from the would have to discharge out that fancy cooling section they seem to model on all the imperial/chaos plasma weapons( which would be venting a couple thousands of degrees), or some kind of power/electrical discharge would have to happen which would most likely create heat. so basically i don't think "fluff" wise it would really save a guy to have a pelt there, but if gaming wise it does, do it to it. Zemox
Well im not a plasma gun expert but i do know what plasma is. All substances have four forms. First they are solid, add some energy and they become liquid, add even more energy and they evolve into gass then if you add a lot more energy the substance becomes plasma. A good example of plasma is fire, just regular fire so in that respect a flamer is just as much a plasmagun as the actual plasma gun. Then lets assume the plasmagun uses a helluva lot of termic energy (heat) things will get hot very quickly without a sophisticated cooling system. Now ignoring the actual firing mechanism which i reckon is the hardest part of the whole gun to explain. Anyway i just feelt like putting that out there, and the conclusion is that unless you tie the pelt around the tip of the barrel or around the storage area your pelt should be allright. Note: this explination is purely hypothetical and if anyone can direct me to a quote that says im wrong i am completely suceptible to changing my explination and opinion. CainTheHunter
Well, obviously the hottest part in the plasma cannon is the PLASMA :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197079-what-part-of-the-plasma-is-it-that-gets-hot/#findComment-2348444 Share on other sites
Karack Blackstone
The unfired Plasma is stored in the little round thing with the small spines sticking off it on the back (Assuming Forge World Dread Arm). From there to the barrel, it is likely to be hot. Take that for what you will, as it all adds up to a very powerful but possibly dangerous weapon if it overheats on the firer. this is assumed to be in an area that the person takes an armor savable hit from the weapon. Take this also as you will, since the entire weapon is likely made of heat radiating materials, to minimize damage being unsavable to being savable. Note also that this hit is automatic, since you just take an armor save. This means it gets bloody hot! If you plan to mount a fur on this arm, maybe along the top and singe a bit of the fur along the gun, as the whole thing's good to cook off of (likely)...? jjfelber
what smells worse? Burning Hair or Burning Flesh? I'd say Hair, as Steak smells pretty damn good. I'd leave the fur off, you don't want to upset the Thunder Wolves. The_Betrayed_Spacewolf
generally speaking the get hots is damage to the gun causing heat to shoot out from whatever crack or slip in the magnetic coils either terribly burning the user or outright killing them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197079-what-part-of-the-plasma-is-it-that-gets-hot/#findComment-2349134 Share on other sites
