TheLastHuzzah
Greetings All, I wanted to throw this thread out there, as I plan it to be my first posted set of models on B & C. My grand plan is to kit-bash the Sang guard with wolfy bits to make my homebrew Wolf Lord some Jump packing buddies. I know it doesn't make good game sense, but I think the 85% awesome figure will make me take them in friendly games. I know wolves are supposed to fight on foot, but I see Wodan Drakeclaw (name subject to change) as a non-traditional Wolf Lord. He refuses to believe that Russ would restrict the tools given to his children by the All-father, especially if it brought quick death to his enemies. When using this Wolf Lord, I'll be throwing sky claws and speeders when I can fit them backed by normally chosen wolfy models. In Wodan's current form has a pair of wolfclaws, with his jump pack (will be switched for sang guard wings/pack). I'm not quite sure if I'll go with a white/blue theme (ice drake) or a black theme (Odin's ravens), but hopefully one will speak to me. Aside from the fact that each of these models will come in around 55-60 points, I'm excited to see what I can do with them. Depending on the model availability at my FLGS, I will hopefully get started this week and have pics in the near future (if, of course, I can figure out how to post them) Cheers, Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/ Share on other sites
Skirax
Make sure you sand off the Power Nipples... you could take someone's eye out with them! I know someone who tried to sand them off in a cold environment, and now he has several dents in his file! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2348170 Share on other sites

TheLastHuzzah
Thanks for the replies thus far. I am planning to make them as wolfy as possible, i.e. SW torso fronts, SW heads. The kit may, of course throw a curveball at me as I haven't seen the sprues up close, but necessity is the mother of invention. By Russ' icy bollocks it will be done! -Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2348584 Share on other sites

Adarul Greystalker
I would go with black wings. The raven angle is a great idea, as they could be paying homage to the Eyes of the Allfather (which, as you note, is a reference to Odin's ravens). As far as wolves fighting on foot, many prefer it, but it's not a rule by any means. It's not uncommon for a wolf lord to choose to employ nonstandard tactics or unit types, and I think that a sort of "fast attack" themed great company is a cool idea that's not depicted strongly in the codex (except perhaps by Harald Deathwolf). Spacefrisian
You could go Conan style on them. Paint the nipple armour Flesh colour and put Catachan arms on them. Maybe some greenstuffing needs to be done to make them look like they aren't wearing their chest powerarmour. Michaelus
Sanguinary Gurad?! WINGS?!?! *rage* :tu: Personal preferrence aside, make Russ proud! File those nipples, wing things, and bloods off, kit-bash (a lot), paint them blue-greyish, and you're good to go! For Russ, for the wolftime, we drink and cheers!! Huraa!! Nadir
They are great models with great poses, but I think it will be the pain in the assault cannon to remove all of those BA stuff from them. TheLastHuzzah
Brothers, As I stated in my first post, I plan for this thread to be the first of my modeling endeavors, without further adieu, The First of Wodan's Ravens: Wolf Guard Hehman SangWolfGuard1 Flickr SangWolfGuard2 Flickr All, I can say is He has the POWWWWERRRRRRR!!!! Photo is a bit grainy thanks to my use of the camera phone, not too worried about it as all of the bits are easily made out. Once I get around to painting them I may bust out the girl's digicam. Sorry for the extra step of work, but it didn't seem to like the file name on the image. I will look into making this easier in the future Cheers, Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2352168 Share on other sites
Decoy
Iunno, mate. Screams a bit too much "DA" for my liking. I actually had to double-check to make sure I was in the right forum. With that said, it's beautifully converted, and is a fine model. However, the hood, followed by the Wolfy bits, clash immensely in my mind. Do you have any hoodless heads you could try swapping? TheLastHuzzah
That is one of the SW heads from the Grey Hunter Box. It's the He-man moppy-hair with crown one! Silverwolf
hmmm, I'm not sold yet. I like the idea, and the pose shown is good, but currently those wings just look much to DA, and the S.Shield with skull and laurel? Very "astartes". Overall he needs more "wolfing up" in my opinion :). But thats just me, he could look more wolfish once painted up. Gerwulf
It probably looks better painted, even more if you paint the wings black. However, I would use one of the SW storm shields, the one you have doesn't look wolfy enough, as mentioned above by others. I'm not particularly fond of that head either... I only used it on one miniature so far.... mainly because my gf likes the head and nagged me until I used it. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2352382 Share on other sites
TheLastHuzzah
I haven't done it yet, but i had considered shaving the Astartes crap off of it and put on one of the wolf icons from the old school SW sprue. I Did it with another astartes shield and it worked well I was just excited to knock one of them out. -Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2352386 Share on other sites
Silverwolf
I think we can all understand that sought of excitement Huzzah, but don't let it make you do a rush job on things ;). We're a patient bunch in here (Aside from the pups :P). Take your time and show us when your happy with them, or if you want keep throwing up WIP photos for comments and ideas like a lot of our brothers in here do. Don't take any comments in here as meant as anything other then constructive. Everyone has their own style of modeling and painting, we simply throw out our own ideas and opinions, and perhaps some of them will seem right to you, or make you have an idea you may not otherwise have thought of :D. TheLoneWolf
I see what you did there Huzzah, and i like it ....and yes, it needs a better head. I'm sure it'll look good once it done. Can't wait to see the end result, hahaha/lolz.... :P And I think you have just inspired me, and i might just borrow that idea of yours if you don't mind that is.... :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2352592 Share on other sites
Beef
And to add fangs to the lower jaw :) as opposed to the "upper" jaw? :D Adding fangs to the lower Jaw will make them look like Ork hybrids, you need them on the upper jaw Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2352748 Share on other sites
Hfran Morkai
And to add fangs to the lower jaw :) as opposed to the "upper" jaw? :D Adding fangs to the lower Jaw will make them look like Ork hybrids, you need them on the upper jaw I think it was a reference to vampires and possibly the kits ;) So to balance it out you'd need fangs on the bottom to make it more wolf-like, unless your wolf is missing his bottom canines. Just a guess though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197083-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2352754 Share on other sites

Race Bannon
I dunno, the wings make it un-wolfy to me. Does the JP look bad without the wings? I mean, it's not a bad model, and the SP models are sooo good looking ... but the wings are not "Imperial" and just not "wolfy". I dunno ... I mean, it's not a bad model, and the SP models are sooo good looking ... but the wings are not "Imperial" and just not "wolfy". I dunno ... It looks weird without them.... its one large turbine and two small thruster vents..... looks more like a modern space walking kit than a proper jumppack. That being said I used them on my Hunin and Munin conversions, wich are finally ready to be painted up as Odins Ravens like they deserve now. THE WINGS ARE HUUUUGGGGEEE!
