Assault and misc. questions

Recommended Posts

1. If an Independent Character is in a squad that lost an assault, but that character never was attacked because he wasn't in base contact with the assaulting ( with its own independent character) squad can he be destroyed in a sweeping advance? And if so, what initiative values do you use? Squad that lost: Necron Lord, with warriors. Squad that won: Vanguard Veterans with Shrike.

2. If a squad with a powerfists wants to perform a sweeping advance, is their initiative value 1? or the what is listed.

3. Why does Marneus Calgar have an initiative value higher than one if his only wargear options are powerfists?

4. Is it legal for a space marine sergeant to use a bolter in one hand and a chainsword in the other?

5. If the Nightbringer uses his blast psychic power, does it still use partial hits (what the codex says) even though there aren't any partial hits in the 5 th edition rules?

1. yes he can, he is only a seperate unit during the initive order (when hits wounds and saves and the such are dealt), once you are at the determining results step the IC is once again a part of the unit and is treated just like any other model. As stated in the sweeping advance rules you use the majority initive value, or the highest if there is no majority.

2. The listed value, power fists only lower the initive value of attacks and have no effect on any other initive uses.

3. As listed above other forms of initive tests (such as sweeping advances), also he has a power sword he may choose to use instead of his fists.

4. yes, but you will not get +1 attack for two one handed close combat weapons as the bolter is not a close combat weapon

5. Yes, codex always trumps any other rules.

as for your first question your ic should generally get base to base as he HAS to move to assault first and then with the enemy 6'' consolidate he should easily get in...unless he is more than 12'' away from the closet enemy model in the assaulting unit.
If the IC is at the back then he might struggle. The manager of my LGS store says that ICs don't push their way to the front and if it isn't 6 inches round to the unit then he can't get into base contact. So based on what he says you don't draw a line through your troops towards the enemy.
In the movement and assault sections it says that models cannot pass through friendly models, so unless there is a gap he will have to go round. This kinda thing will only happen with big units with the IC at the back, but he cannot barge through the blob of men in his own squad.
