Walter Payton
I am thinking of buying the HH Alpha Legion book. Is it worth it? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/ Share on other sites
Captain Juan Juarez
Brilliant read but it "suffers" from not featuring the Alpha Legion as heavily as some of the other HH novels feature their respective Legiosn; it gives more of an insight to how they operate than anything else, but it also provides alot of info about the Imperial Army. Brother-Captain Lucius
I taught it was fantastic and is one of my favourite books of the series. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2348646 Share on other sites
Brother Alucard
Got to agree with Captain Jaun, not alot of Alpha Legion as you'd hope, but still really good. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2348667 Share on other sites
ashrog
Agree with the general consensus. Er, pretty much everything I have to say could be considered a spoiler: I didn't like Alpha Legion at all before the book, but you get a bit of insight. I LOVE the tidbit that they all introduce themselves as Alpharius. Characterful. Found the book frustrating at times though. Wanted to shout at the characters "You're all on the same side!" If they could trust one another, they wouldn't be fighting at all. But I guess then it wouldn't be intrigue. Eetion
See I loved the AL book and the way it was written. By concentrating on the Imperial army and a specific few 'operatives' you get a huge feel for the Legion without loosing any of their mystery. mob16151
Great read. It gives you a good feeling for how SM's are regarded by conventional forces as well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2349353 Share on other sites
Simo429
i didnt like it but a lot of people i know did, i dont think you can miss any of the books in the series Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2349380 Share on other sites
Starblayde
It took me a couple of tries to get past the first couple of pages (where a lot of funky human names and places get dumped on you) but, getting past that, it's a great book. Makes me understand why one would want to play Alpha Legion (just as Fulgrim made me understand why one'd play Emperor's Children). Vissah
Its a really good read and one of the better books in the series. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2349424 Share on other sites
Aqatone
It's typical alpha legion really. A whole book about them and you come away at the end not knowing much about them at all. I highly recommend. Raven Angel
Agreed a must read. Loved it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2349957 Share on other sites
JEFF4i
You're confused for a decent portion of it, don't learn much more about Alpha Legion except a couple big things, and you still have questions when you're done. So...it's the perfect Alpha Legion book. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2350136 Share on other sites

valanus
Yes deifinitely worth reading, in my opinion one of the better books in the HH series. Plus it's got one of the best characters of the series in John Grammaticus. Ashe Darke
It's almost a read once kinda thing. Like watching Sixth Sense or something. Once the big surprise is over the repeat value is kinda gone. Corsair
Best book in the HH series and it's not even close (in my opinion of course). I disagree wholeheartedly about the 'read once' thing as well; the book is a mystery story in many senses, and multiple reads reveal more and more subtle nuance and foreshadowings that are very well executed (especially for a BL book, where subtlety typically means you don't shout 'for the Emperor' while you put your fist through someone face...) Corby
Awesome book , But not the best in the series. Battle for the abyss is a lot better. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197124-legion/#findComment-2357337 Share on other sites

Kodanshi
Sixth Sense … Once the big surprise is over the repeat value is kinda gone. Not really. The whole fun in that film came from watching it again and seeing the interaction of the main characters with a fresh perspective. Corsair
Awesome book , But not the best in the series. Battle for the abyss is a lot better. oh wow...I respect your opinion of course, but barring you and the author's mother, I don't think you'll find too many other people agreeing with you here. I do need to clarify though; Legion is equal-best with A Thousand Sons as a book, but I have always loved the AL haha (all opinion again of course).
