biadetic
Hail fellow brothers in arms ! I've been working on a small 10man squad of grey hunters, really enjoying the process, lots of nice little additions =] I'm having a little bother though. Most of the unit is as good as fully painted, except the left shoulder pad! Im not sure what to do. I was going to do them generic yellow, but i cant be bothered trying that hard to get a good effective yellow, plus id like to break away from that accustomed colour. What would you advise or suggest? I dont want to use decals, and id prefer not to attempt free-hand (so more or less ruling out specific company markings, weird yeah but I'd like to keep it simple and effective. Maybe a brief idea of what the rest of the model looks like? (Cant find camera lead so no pic's :D ) Adeptus basecoat, washed black, heavy drybrush of codex grey. It came oiut really nice in my opinion, nice dark grey compared to the codex light grey. Dark gold trimmings, scorched brown base with shinig gold on top, highlighted here and there. I'v done the right shoulder pads red (or red and black depending on what design the pads have. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, =] Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197145-painting-help/ Share on other sites
ralkass
Hail brother! I think that a classic yellow left shoulder pad would be really nice with the rest of your models, but if you think it's too classic then you can choose maybe a black (or red) base with white (or black) freehand marking. Anyways... this is how I obtain a nice (for me :( ) yellow: 1) prime the shoulder pads with white; 2) apply a basecoat of bubonic brown, the most uniform you can; 3) make your freehand-sketch with black, just some lines to have a schema; 4) apply successive diluted sunburst yellow coats to brighten up your yellow (this could take some time); 5) finish up your freehand marking. I usually paint with diluted paint at least 1:1 to obtain a clear model. I'll see if I can post here my shoulder detail. hope I helped someway. -d Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197145-painting-help/#findComment-2348856 Share on other sites
Vash113
Well yellow isn't actually that genaric for Space Wolves, it's merely the background color for Ragnar's Company, most others use a different background color such as red, black or even standard Space Wolf grey. I too at the time didn't think myself up to a complex company symbol and I didn't have any transfers at my disposal, the majority of my army having been second hand. So I chose a black background and went with the Company name: Stormblade. I represented this with a lightning bolt bladed sword piercing a horizontal half moon with a single star in the upper right. It was all just simple lines and nothing really complex and I wound up being able to paint the symbol fairly effectively and have stuck with it ever since.
