Seeing Red

Brothers!

So, I decided to try my hand at painting red today. These are the results of three layers of red gore on a black base.

Now, I know there's mold lines present, but it's ok. He's a test, and he's not complete yet. He still needs a few more layers to get complete coverage, methinks. I'll probably remove them if I opt to throw him in the army. The BloodBug bit me after having gotten my hands on the Blood Angels 'dex, so this is a fresh start. Oh, and then there's this:

And with the turret:

I call it the Anima-pattern. So, thoughts, comments, pointers?

P.S. This is in my blog, along with a few other random goodies from my workbench. I figured I'd get more critique on the test if I put it here, too.

I like it but u probably should have started with a mechrite base which is perfect for starting over black. It was my first time painting red too yesterday and i pumped out this:http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/ll361/Spanner6054/BILD0001.jpg

This is with a mechrite red base, red gore, Blood red then a baal red wash also over a black undercoat.

Won't lie, that is one pretty shade of red. I would've loved to do that sequence of colors, but the only GeeDub red I own's Gore. However, I went out and purchased some generic colors, a Testors Flat Red and Americana Calico Red, and they seem to work A-OK. I gave him one more coat of Gore on his legs and tested Americana on one shoulder and Testors on the other. They both seem to work fine, and Testors actually has the vibrancy of blood red, I think. The biggest difference I can see is that Testors goes on smoother than Americana, so I might be using these two in future endeavors. As well, I think that the former (Americana) has a red to match Mechrite. Anywho, I'll put up pictures of the latests tests later on. Thanks for the pointers, though!
