Using Space Wolves and allied rules to represent Grey Knight

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I'm just getting into the modelling and gaming aspect of 40k and really excited to start developing an army list.

One thing that I've decided to do is use the Space Wolf codex as a parent list with some allied GKs to represent my GK force.

The plan.

Use a Brother Captain model to represent Njal. Use bitz from the staff and book librarian model to aid this.

Use Black Templar upgrade sprues and tactical marines to represent my Grey Hunters, to give it a bit more of an IQ feel.

Use Long fang pack as is, with maybe some decals because Space Wolves do look pretty cool

Have the Space wolves units provide psychic might and powerful anti vehicle as my Grey Knights wreak havoc on the battlefield.

The list- 1850 points

So tell me Sons of Russ, do you guys think this is a great idea? Angry that I am using your beloved dex in this manner? Have some advice you can offer a newbie?

Anything to make Grey Knights a bit more cost-effective, IMO. Though GKs could also just easily work alongside Space Wolves (the most recent codex clearly demonstrates that the two are at least sufficiently amicable for Logan to be able to "call in a favor" and get a full company of Grey Knights dropped on Angron's rather surprised face).

oh I'm aware of this. But I don't really plan on fielding any models that are SW, just the Long Fangs and I play on putting some Inquisitorial touches on those as well.

I love Space Wolves, but I wanted to make a neat GK force to tide me until the GK dex is released :)

Go for it, then. The SW codex is extremely flexible (and unlike the Witch Hunters codex, has appropriately priced models), and the rules let you use this combo. The only thing to remember is that GKs and SWs have some different Special Rules (Acute Senses and Counterattack vs, what, Fearless and The Shrouding?), so it'll be important to keep an eye on which squads have what. More casual opponents might let you houserule the use of standardized Rules (all SW or all GK), though.

I plan on keeping all the rules as whatever they count for, just modelling them non standard.

GK get Fearless, True Grit, Shrouding, and a bunch of other crap, most of it only useful vs daemons.

I'm very curious about GH counter attack, that looks neat.

excuse me if i miss read this entry:

Long Fang 160

5 Long Fangs+1 Squad Leader

w/Squad Leader

w/2 Lascannon

w/2 Missile Launcher

but you didn't give one of your LF a heavy weapon. you have 6 guys and only 4 weapons. sorry if that came out rude, but it was the only thing i really noticed about the list. other wise i think it looks pretty good and think you should give it a try.

apologies, I missed that while reading through

That does mean I can drop the one Long Fang and pick up something elsewhere. I wonder If I could drop a couple of Grey Hunters as well to pick up some more Grey Knights
