Jerre
Since I have seen a lot of great painted models on these boards, I thought I should show my humble efforts as well. I am not a great painter. Highlighting is not my thing as I do not have a steady hand. So I tried to get some depth in my models using washes. The red on these models was painted using the following : chaos black undercoat, mechrite red basecoat, badab black wash, bloodred, baal red wash. The blood drops received an extra layer of blazing orange. Tactical Marines http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/3528/dsc06953t.jpg Lascannon Marine http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/5504/dsc06956.jpg I had to convert the left arm so I could give this model the same shoulder pad (from the metal bitz pack). http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/2821/dsc06957g.jpg Sergeant with PW http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/2177/dsc06964.jpg Assault Marines http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/5933/dsc06961b.jpg Corbulo http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/1716/dsc06904.jpg Death Company http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/7034/dsc06946b.jpg For my black armour, I used Chaos black undercoat/basecoat, drybrushed with Charadon Granite and then washed with Badab Black. It breaks the black a little bit. http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/1500/dsc06938w.jpg Death Company Rhino http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/6977/dsc06934l.jpg http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4629/dsc06936.jpg Tactical Marines Rhino http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/4065/dsc06898.jpg http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/5923/dsc06896x.jpg Assault Marines Rhino http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/6427/dsc06901.jpg Assault Bike http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/7853/dsc06971.jpg C&C welcome ! SevenExxes
These look great. How do you get the DC and BA decals on the Rhino doors?
Jerre
Those are the forgeworld blood angels rhino doors. I always screw up decals and freehand is not really my thing. It was a bit more expensive but I think it was worth it :)

Jerre
I am organising a Paint & Battle competition in my FLGS. Every month we need to paint another 250 points. So expect more pics soon. My next models are another DC and a chaplain/reclusiarch. I will try not to forget a group shot next time I take pics :)

V Dubbed
Love the doors on the rhinos! Are they from Forgeworld? (haha, my question was answered in the time it took me to write this post!) If I HAD to pick on something, I'd say the models need a little more love before you start painting them (mould lines and gun barrels). Other than that, they look great, and I think the wash did a great job of giving them a deep look without bothering with the highlights (just as you mentioned) Excellent job. Inquisitor_Lensoven
won't lie, everything looks good, but to me you need to break up the monotony of all the red a bit. like get some white on your priest, make the 'energy' on the PW green or blue or purple, the decoration on the armour would be a good way to break up all the red. ancient god
Agreed! The red is fine but some black weapon casings etc. would liven things up a bit. Looking good anyway though!

Jerre
I finished my next two figures: a DC with power sword and my Reclusiarch. I used several bits from the new DC sprues. http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9281/dsc07032f.jpg http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/4061/dsc07040t.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/7522/dsc07042.jpg http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/1584/dsc07045j.jpg http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/3707/dsc07035.jpg http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/6155/dsc07037y.jpg http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/4963/dsc07038.jpg C&C welcome! Jerre
It has been a while, but here's another update. I'll propably post some more pictures next week. Predator. Brother-Captain Devlonir
I love what your technique of no highlighting but washing does for the look of the vehicles. Really brings out every detail in the armor of them! Must agree on the earlier comment on the Chaplain though, could really use a bone color on the head, even if you just use a heavy drybrushing technique to keep the skull dark, but the full black really takes away all detail on the great model. I think the pic does it less credit than it should. The head is drybrushed with charadon granite (as is the rest of the armour).
Brother Nathan
very nice though i would suggest giving the sargents black shoulderpads with red trim to make them stand out like how they supposed to be done in the codex. also squad markings etc can really help out to brake up the red etc. anyways geat job keep it up. Jerre
A few more pics ... Mephiston. I customized his backpack using bitz from the new DC plastic sprue. http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/4539/mephiston15.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/8444/mephiston08.jpg http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/7546/mepghiston12.jpg DC Dread. I used the metal Furiouso Dread and added forgeworld blood angels iconography. This is also my first real attempt at highlighting. http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/4291/dcdread85.jpg http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5734/dcdread86.jpg http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/6267/dcdread88.jpg
Brother-Captain Devlonir
Although your Mephy missed his eyes colored (which I only just now noticed all your helmetless models miss :-S) I do love the color scheme you choose for him! Only bringing Librarian Blue back to his sword and so much Gold in his details really makes him stand out from other Mephistons I've seen before and I really like this look! I would screw up the model if I tried to paint the eyes. My hand is not steady enough for painting such fine details.
