Dark Dajin
Hi all, I'm new in this part of the forums. Been strolling a lot, not much posting though. I've been doing bits of 40k since 2004, but never played a proper game. Now I've taken the plunge and started with a Dark Angel successor and I'd like to flesh out my army with a Battle Sister squad (I've been able to pick up one of the last boxes in my local store). But I'm at a loss as to how to paint them. My main army uses the standard Dark Angel colors (Dark Angel Green troops with Bleached Bone robes, Bone White terminators and dreads and Chaos Black Ravenwing). I'm thinking to do it like this: (DA Green, Burnished Gold trim and Bleached Bone robes) But I'm at a loss as to how to paint the faceplate? Bleached Bone looks ok-ish...Green makes it look flat, Black doesn't pop as much, Skull White isn't in-line with the rest of my army... :P Also, the Ravenwing's Chaos Black armor looks enticing But again what to do with the faceplate? Hope you vet's can help me out ;) PS: Don't know why the neck pipes show up white, but they're supposed to be black, like the soft armor bits. Verythrax Draconis
The DA dual-toned green can look awesome on the SOBs, I think. I would keep the faceplate green as the armour, in this case, to keep it grittier. The black is meh, but just because 99% of the SoB schemes use black as main color (mine included). I don't care if you want it to match DA or not, but anyway, the green is a very good idea and I think you should stick with it. Just my 2 cents :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197577-how-to-paint-my-sisters/#findComment-2353469 Share on other sites
Chengar Qordath
I'll second green as a color choice, but I've got my own horrendously biased reasons for that since I also went for green armor on my Sisters. calypso2ts
I know I am not a great painter, but I did a DA themed squad of SoB, I have a Rhino painted to go with them (I put half a Fleur de Lis on one top hatch panel and half the DA symbol on the other). I used DA Green, Snot Green highlights with shining gold for the metal. I used a green variant for the helmets at first, but I really disliked it so I went to Bleached Bone. The same for the Robes, but I washed them in Devlan mud and used Graveyard Earth as the lowlight. Obliterator
But I'm at a loss as to how to paint the faceplate? Bleached Bone looks ok-ish...Green makes it look flat, Black doesn't pop as much, Skull White isn't in-line with the rest of my army... :tu: Your green color scheme looks like it'll pop out more on the table, I'm not a huge fan of the black and bone. Maybe if you added a 3rd color... Like black armour, green robes and bone details or something. Concerning the faceplate, personally I'd paint it either skull white (the rest of the color scheme fits your army, small differences like a white faceplate won't break it) or shining gold (cheesy, I know, but I like sparkly stuff :) ) Best advice I can give is to give it a go on a test mini, and post a pic of it. Different methods of highlighting/shading etc. will give a different result, so it's hard to say what colors you should use. Arithon
This is part of a unit I painted a while ago, that uses a green/red paint scheme. Seemed to work ok. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p150/arithorn/sisters4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197577-how-to-paint-my-sisters/#findComment-2354511 Share on other sites

Dark Dajin
Wow, looking at your models makes me wish I could paint like that ;) I guess I'll take the plunge and paint a test model in my own scheme to see how it looks, thanks for the advice :) I'll post it here once I'm done Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197577-how-to-paint-my-sisters/#findComment-2354802 Share on other sites
tahrikmili
I'd surely go with warlock purple / tentacle pink for armor if I painted sisters. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197577-how-to-paint-my-sisters/#findComment-2355061 Share on other sites

calypso2ts
Love that you did the inside of the cloaks in a different color. In retrospect I should have done this with mine, is that Vermin Brown? Dark Dajin
Thanks ^_^ It's actually snakebite leather, i'm thinking about picking up something like scorched brown to shade the inside a bit more, as it looks a bit flat as is. Obliterator
The white of the faceplate actually doesn't look out of place next to the pale bone robes. I'd say keep them white. Have you tried giving your Dark Angels Green armour a light wash of Badab Black? Clean up the green armor afterwards, hardline the armor edges with snot green, and you're golden. Arithon
Watered down wash of Delvan mud also work just as well. Helps it blend in more, if you know what I mean. Dark Dajin
I've actually never used washes, only ever used an ink in times long past. I will drop by a store and give it a go :D Oh and I plan on keeping the helmets Bleached Bone, I just need to touch up some spots I missed Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197577-how-to-paint-my-sisters/#findComment-2357075 Share on other sites
