Any rule against using empty transports?

If i buy a drop pod, do i haveto drop the unit it was bought with in it? Or could they start in the deployment zone, walking across the board, with the drop pod dropping down empty?

Not sure if its a fun way to play, but dropping down a droppod with that blast thingy, infront of squads with heavy weapons, might be.. tactical.. Forcing them to walk around it.

Yes You can do it - it's the same rule about dedicated transports - You may start the game inside it or outside, depending on circumstances.

As to dropping it in front of heavy weapons, it does not sound very bright, since such squads tend to be stationary - and instead of walking around it, they will blast it apart with their weaponry and You will concede a killpoint. Of course that will deny them shooting at Your troops for a turn.

kill points, didnt think of that, even thou i asked about dedicated transport and kill points in the official rules forum.. Who is this official guy anyways? and why is he so good?

But if they blow it up, it will still be there blocking line of sight?

It will only remain there if the damage roll gets a "wrecked" result instead of an "explodes" result.

I'm not a fan of pods in general but dropping empty ones do have their uses: You take Logan Grimnar and some Long Fangs and instead of dropping right on top of the enemy to get shot you can move on from the board edge and fire your Missiles or whatever while you move toward cover. Meanwhile at the start of your first turn you drop your Pod right on top of an objective to contest and force your opponent to either shoot or combat it to death. If it explodes it might even take one or two enemies with it.
