rapscallion
Should be an easy one. Can a wolf guard unit composed of three models split off two members into allowed packs leaving one on his own? The point in this being to have a lone wolf substitute while having better powerfists in my grey hunter squads. The way I read it doesnt say this cant be, I just want to know it a unit of wolf guard always has to be a number of three, even after splitting. Thanks! The Trickster
Yes you can. But he becomes a kill point all on his own. So would be carefull doing this in kill point missions. CainTheHunter
It's not that good Lone Wolf substitute actually, since he does not have all those Lone Wolves special rules, which makes it so hard to kill them. pucadubh
And the Lone Wolf does not cost a kill point if you use him correctly. Get him into battle with something big and nasty and let him have his glorious death! I have found them to be great fire magnets keeping my main forces safe also. Conversation generally goes 'he does what and what ...' then the fear/distraction sets in. Silverwolf
Yeh, what the lads have said already. Generally I'd take 3 G.Hunter Squads, and put a WG P.Leader into each, with either a set of W.Claws, or a P.Fist and combi weapon. Grey Mage
Even at 1000pts you should have atleast 3 infantry squads in the army.... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197874-question-on-wolf-guard/#findComment-2358391 Share on other sites
GostEar
Stop! How he could do it? ;) an a wolf guard unit composed of three models split off two members into allowed packs leaving one on his own? In the codex we see, that may take 3-10, if 2 Wolfs Guarg go to the paks, he couldn't leave lone guard. If he had 2 packs, and want to "lone" guard he MUST take 5 Wulf Guard, because 2 "go" to the packs, and remaining 3 become full squad. P.S. Wulf Guard is the most difficult Kill Point in Space Wolves army, because opponent must kill ALL Wulf Guard in All packs where they are! Because all Wulf Guards are a ONE unit ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197874-question-on-wolf-guard/#findComment-2358431 Share on other sites
stinkenheim
@ GostEar actually when you purchase the unit of wolf guard, they must number three models. then at deployment they can be split off to lead other packs as you desire. Nowhere does it force you to buy additional wolf guard to still leave a unit of three walking around. You can if you like split all the wolf guard you have off to lead units assuming you have enough viable units for them. also with regards to kill points, the wolf guard that are acting as pack leaders are considered part of the unit they are leading, so a wolf guard in with grey hunters is considered a grey hunter with regards to claiming objectives and kill points. in missions using kill points only those wolf guard elft as part of a wolf guard unit (i.e not those that have been split off to lead other squads) are counted when wowking out if your opponent gains a kill point for destryoing the wolf guard unit. therefore if you buy 4 wolf guardand split three off, all you opponent has to do is kill the lone wolf guard to gin the kill point. Grey Mage
Yeah, you dont split the WG off until the game wich is actually really flexable in tournaments where you can in fact change it each round if you so choose. The unit is Purchased at squad sizd 3-10. You could not for instance have a 10 strong WG squad and then have another 4 WG used as pack leaders from the same squad. What happens after purchasing them has nothing to do with unit size.
