major_kittens Posted April 15, 2010 Share Posted April 15, 2010 well, yeah, that unit would be vicious if it gets the charge and is fully intact, but how are you going to get it there? Anyone seeing a land raider barreling towards them is going to focus on that and if they pod in they will probably get shot to pieces. i think it may be too many points, personally. Some like it, some don't, the biggest issue is always going to be the cost. If you can do it, and it works for you, then go for gold ;). Personally at the moment I've decided to leave that idea be as I prefer to spend those points elsewhere. Zunwen Posted April 15, 2010 Share Posted April 15, 2010 If you wana do that, it's possible and the unit will cause great hurt to the enemy. But, you'll need other things to screen them first. Putting in LRR and move up, use power of m.spirit to make another additional move before you pop a smoke. OR: Accompany the unit with a 15-man BC in J.Ps, 1x power fist and 1x melta, accompany by a wolf priest. Now, you have 2 gay units that could accompany each other. OR: Fill in 4xLRR with wolf priest and BC, armed with only power fist. With 4xLR moving into enemy forces and poping smoke, through out the journey. I can imagine the fun. If you really wanna play CC, than focus your army on purely CC. *Death or Glory*, it's how Ragner works. Do you think this would be the best way for Ragnar? Or would there be an even juicier unit he could ride with? Max_Dammit Posted April 15, 2010 Share Posted April 15, 2010 Biggest problem, what is it going to assault that needs this kind of stuff, and how are you going to survive the shooting round after you wiped out the target you attacked, no one in there right mind will let that live amids his ranks. so thats a big chunk of your points shot to bits with no real survivability. its only power armour after all. How about 50 odd attacks to chomp through half of it in one turn? Sure not the most cost effective way of taking them out but I've heard some crazy ork players bring much more boys to play and ragnar and Co could be thrown at that horde. Hymirl Posted April 15, 2010 Share Posted April 15, 2010 But the key part of the 'Ragnar kills stuff' is (a) Ragnar and (:( the landraider to assault from. No matter what else you pack into the vehicle with him you'll probably flatten whatever you charge anyway thanks to Ragnar making the unit awesomer. So I just use Grey Hunters and thats enough to be honest, you've got a wolf guard in there and all the combat upgrades you can buy then theres a very short list of things that are going to be ok. One disadvantage of using a wolf guard unit is that you miss out on the wolf standard which is great mostly for reducing the damage you take, and we all know that the less damage you take the more you win combat by! Plus it can re-roll Ragnar's bonus assaults dice if you only get a one. But as it stands I don't see the point of that the wolf guard squad as shown, its not going to return it's investment.
