Daemon Prince with Jet Pack

Recommended Posts

So, I had this idea of using a DP in my chaos army and of course, I wanted it to have great movement. The only option in the rule book is "Wings". Looking through the Codex and rules, I feel like I would be able to put a jet pack on this Daemon Prince and have it count as the same. It's obviously a flight generating piece of equipment on his back, just like wings would be... It just doesn't look like wings. I Figure, if it's in the list as him having wings, then I should be able to use him in even large tournaments.

I may use a small set of airplane stabilizers as "Wings", it doesn't say it has to be DRAGON wings or anything like that...

Without further ado, Here is my Daemon prince with Jet Pack.

1. I went out and bought a regular Daemon Prince, (The Khorne looking one) and a Space Marines Whirlwind and a couple of snap together planes with nose props that looked like great turbines. My plan was to take the whirlwind pieces and the plane nose and GS them together to make a jet pack!

Now, I will show the bulding of the DP and attachment of the Jump Pack

I Started fom the ground up. I Know I wanted this DP to be stepping on something (A rock, stone, tank... something...) So, I looked at all of my extra bits and I found a regular space marine that is supposed to man a pintle mounted turret... PERFECT! Although, he didn't have legs... What to do. I use the upper half of the legs that were provided and just covered him over with a Dreadnaught gun. I also wanted to make it look like he was begging for mercy, muahaha.

http://inlinethumb20.webshots.com/28307/2076720680068943964S425x425Q85.jpg

Next, I added some green stuff to... everything, trying to give him simple Nurgle Iconography. the 3 pustules on his shoulder, the Mark of Nurgle on his other shoulder, Some gas mask-esque pieces on his face (Like Typhus) and a small horn as well. I cut off his horns a bit to make it look a little more war torn.

Here is a comparison of the jump pack and the DP.. the jump pack looks HUGE compaired to the DP, but every time I look at it now, it just looks awesome.

http://inlinethumb59.webshots.com/21242/2110322130068943964S425x425Q85.jpg

After everything is set and ready, I start to attach the Jump pack and create some Nurgle Flesh all over... It's my first time and all I have to sculpt are the back sides of brushes and an exacto knife... So I did my best.

That is all I have as of right now. I will be adding more GS to make better Nurgle flesh after this all dries for a full 24 Hrs. I hope you guys like so far!

I really like the idea, I dont think you would have a problem as you can use "counts as" so they could count as wings lol.

Really like the design my only thing would be it looks HUGE !! Other than that its great :) Awsome greenstuff to :D

In frendly games and store games I don't see it being a problem BUT if you go to a Tourney IT WILL for tourney they MUST (no counts as) be WINGS theres a GW faq about it.

that is kind of lame as the wings don't count in LOS the model so what would the difference be?

nice conversion by the way =)

Wow, Thank you all! I didn't think it would get such a good response!

About the "Wings" - I can put "Wings" on this model :D it might be huge, but I definitely can!

now... I know they aren't the "Wings" that they drew in the codex, but they are technically wings.... What do you say?

I figure if someone has a pissfit because these aren't real "Wings" I'll buy a quick set and magnetize them on here, or even buy another DP model, put the wings on and give the guy I'm playing the stink eye while my DP wrecks his day.

This conversion looks great, and is officially stolen if I introduce a Deamon Prince into my Bronze Destroyers Legion (of course I would still have to finalise the army list for them, but oh well).

Did the Daemon Prince model need to be altered at all in order to still balance with the jet pack?

Haha, well I'm glad you like it! Please do! Just remember the whole credit where it's due thing :pinch:. The DP is extremely heavy by itself, so it seems to be pretty balanced overall... Maybe a little heavier on the back, but unless you're playing on shagg carpet, it should be fine!

i really like it. wings are overdone and done poorly in general imo, this is a breath of fresh air and really gives the feel that the daemon prince transformed from an assault marine. a bit of constructive criticism though, i am not a fan of adding those plane wings on the sides of the demonic jump pack because it will make the DP look like a plane.

Very cool!

I just finished my own nurgle prince with a jump pack maybe a week ago. Great minds eh? I made mine outta green stuff, so the lines aren't as nice, but i think it's still ok. I'll be following this closely for sure!

In case you're interested, here's how mine turned out! (Please excuse the blackberry photos and poor painting.)

Keep up the progress man, can't wait to see yours painted!

Mods: This is my first time attempting to post images on the B&C, please let me know if I've done something wrong, and I'll do my best to fix it.

Yeah, it DEFINITELY would look like a plane, or even a demonic Gundam model or something like that... I was just playing with the idea of magnetizing them on there so the people that complain about them not being "wings" will have something new to debate... "Where does it say "WINGS" means Dragon wings?!?! That's what I thought. Play the game"

Thank you for the great compliments!

Akratic, GREAT job with the GS work! that whole pack is GS? That's amazing to me! I hate working with the stuff... it sticks to everything, even with a healthy coat of water.

P.S. that's perfectly acceptable to post the pics like that!

Again all, Thank you! You have all really made me want to continue with this. Maybe later I could create a mold (FOR MYSELF GW!!! :) ) and make another DP for those 2000+ pt. games!

Ntg: It's mostly Greenstuff, with the exception of the cylindrical part which are plasticard tubes covered in GS. I think a lot of the parts would have turned out far better if I didn't use GS. The intake vents for example look like sausages instead of vents. I never thought of using the whirlwind bits like you did, but they look like they fit the bill almost perfectly!

I'm far from an expert at green stuff. But a quick note, I personally use either hand cream like vaseline intensive care stuff, or some other sort of lube when working with GS. Actually, I find that KY jelly or stuff you find at prawn shops works the best. Although, you might get some strange looks from family members with a bunch of empty bottles of KY jelly strewn about your hobby desk. lol

In all seriousness though, for me water doesn't cut it and the GS still stick to everything. If you use something else to lube your tools you might have more success.

Although, this is only my limited experience, and as i said I'm far from an expert!

Good luck on the painting! I've been following your log on the nurgle forums too. Might i suggest using the same red somewhere on this guy as well?

Akratic: Thank you for the great pointers! My fiance always has a big thing of moisturizer, so I will try some of that just to start. Yeah, you're right, that would look a little strange!! Haha!

About the painting, I should have the rest of the GS done by Tuesday (Tomorrow is my B-day and I work late then come home to a nice homecooked dinner.) Tuesday will be a good day to convert some more! Wednesday, I should have the primer coat on and I will start painting sometime after that!

Great suggestion as well! I may use some blood soaked deep red on his left fist armor (With Nurgle green flesh around it) I'm wondering what kind of Space marine I should do... Are there any in particular that someone like Mortarion would hate? That would be perfect!

Just for tourneys you should add the tiniest pair of wings you can find to him and put them in the most hidden spot So when those WYSIWYG Nazis attack you you can show them the wings and shout "YOU WANTED WING SO HERE THEY ARE".

He could even be stood on a downed pair of valkyrie wings. Everyhing from the models base up could be counted as the model, so that could play the game.

Personaly I like the big size, as it fits the Nurgle being bloated fluff, aas such they need some big guns to lift them ;)

Again, thank you for the great compliments! I am overwhelmed. I didn't think it was going to get these great comments!

Also, thank you for the suggestions on the "wings" thing. Those darn WYSIWYG Nazis... If I do any wings, they will be all magnetized so they don't always have to be on there. whether they are going to be tiny or just the right size, they will be magnetized.

I put a couple coats of wash on him to look like my plague marines, I will grab some pics very soon!

Thank you!!

Here are some pics with a bit of wash on him.

I started with black in the deepest recesses, brown over everything and then green on the "skin" parts.

I will soon be lightenning up the green with some skull white and adding all of the regular paint details, such as the armor trim and helmet. I am also still trying to decide what color to paint that fallen marine... should he be an ultra marine? I want to make a lot of people look at it and go "Ha, look at that __________(insert marine here)" or say "Why did you have to put HIM there, that's MY army!"
