Novamarines Madness

I can't keep still on one project!

 

Hello all, the forgeworld Novamarine is still ongoing don't worry, but I've moved on to something else as well.

 

My old Army Restoration threat is somewhat obsolete, as the mini's I painted in it have now been stripped AGAIN and are going to be the basis of my Novamarine army.

 

I've been in the garden all morning and have managed to strip down and undercoat 3 squads of Tactical Marines ;)

 

They were all old ones lying about and now they have new life, so heres the squads...

Thankyou Mikhail, well a slow start I admit there wasn't much to comment on, so heres some more!

 

I've been stripping more paint and have rounded up some more troops

Whilst they're all undercoated I've only started painting one sergeant, he's still early on too.

 

I do have a few questions I would like cleared up though.

 

1) How many heavy weapons is a devastator squad allowed?

2) Can a Tactical squad have at least one heavy bolter or something?

devs can have 4, tac can have 1 and a pg or melta

2) Yes, a single heavy bolter.

 

 

 

Your painting is great, these will look brill when they're completed.

Its worth noting a tac squad can only have a heavy and/or special weapon if it numbers 10 men, assuming you're following the codex. So a 9 man squad can only have bolters (+ segeant weps).

 

Dev squad can have up to 4 heavy weapons and between 5 and 10 men.

 

Love the nove marines paint scheme - looking forward to seeing more.

Never been much of a fan of SM bikes but yours are looking good, the painting is great though i think on a personal level that the blue is too bright. They look very similar to the Sons of Guilliman rather than Novamarines.

Don't worry they only have 9 at the moment but thats why I asked, I have a few Heavy Bolter marines spare so once I add them they'll be fine :)

The blue does look a little bright in the photos but it is a little darker in reality. I'd like to see the Vet when he's done :)

the paint scheme for the motorbikes themselves, obviously the marine will be in the quartered Novamarine colours, but do you think I should quarter the bike? or do it in half?

any suggestions would be grateful

Nice work so far, the Novamarines scheme is simple yet works very well. Keep the pics coming.

 

Also, what did you use to strip the paint. I've got an army of Tau sitting in a box with the ugly Tau sept colors on it, and I would love to try something new with them.

as to the stripping medium I used Acetone free nail varnish remover. Very good stuff, leave the mini in it for about 2 mins and then the paint comes straight off with an old toothbrush :)

Instead of doing my homework and coursework I've been up early and been priming and painting once again..

As you can see the Sergeant is almost done, but also as you can see I have cocked up his banner freehand tremendously, I can do a lot better than that trust me so he will recieve a new banner when I can.

 

And here is the start of the first marine...

Thank you Tharand, the bleached bone recipe is as follows...

 

1) Black undercoat

2) Bestial Brown layer

3) 2 or 3 thinned layers of Kommando Khaki, being careful to leave brown in the recesses

4) 1 or 2 thinned layers of Bleached bone

5) first highlight of bleached bone and skull white, I don't do ratios but I would say about a 1:1

6) final highlight of skull white, only very little though!

 

hope that helps :)

 

I am still stuck on what to do for the motorbikes, quartered scheme? or just halved or something, if anyone has any bikes with a quartered colour scheme I would appreciate looking at them.

The sword is from the vanguard veteran box, the relic blade one, with just a normal body and assault marine legs :)

Coming along nicely, dont worry about the banner though. You could use the space marine decals as a base for the chapter symbol, i'm sure there are some skull decals which leaves you to paint the halo.

 

A tip for painting the halo could be that you paint a cross onto the surface first, then apply a skull decal to the centre. Then enlarge the tips of the cross into triangles. you could include diagonal lines to the cross aswell. Abit complicated but my force will be small and compact so i can afford to take the time.

You can have a look a the B&C printable decal sheets, i think they have Novamarines. ;)
