madcooie
Hi Fellas, So whilst the assembling of the models and base coating black of the models i've built so far has been pretty hassle free (even for a novice like me) i have tried both hand painting and spray painting some of the models and i find the shadow grey turning a bit too blue for my liking. I have a couple of questions: 1. I saw on youtube a chap who'd painted his model grey then ink washed with a dark blue and then badab black - Is this that effective? 2. Is there somewhere I can get a water-based spray paint of shadow grey or something similar? 3. I'm a nooblet...HELP!!! Also, I have looked on www.armypainter.com and their spray paints are basecoats/primers which sounds great but they have a limited selection of colours!!! :) All the best, madcooie Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198044-shadow-grey-spray-paint/ Share on other sites
TheLastHuzzah
Madcooie, 1. The only youtube SW video I have watched had a modification to either Shadow Grey or Space Wolves Grey. I can grab the link when not at work, perhaps someone will post it first. 2. GW made (well not made, but relabelled) a shadow grey spray can 7 years back or so, but I've since repainted all of my guys that were sprayed in that because it was not consistent color and just wasn't very good. 3. I'm sure you'll find plenty. -Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198044-shadow-grey-spray-paint/#findComment-2358950 Share on other sites
Bulweih
Hello there, you could use the GW Spraygun with Codex Grey, but I personally prefer Adeptus Battlegrey from the foundation colours range for priming my models, works well for me. It is useful though, when using the spraygun with "grey" on plastic models, to put a light "breeze" of chaos black(or else black) on said models to prevent a sort of snowblindness with grey colours ;) . After priming in a rather bright grey (fortress grey for example)a washing of blue followed by black is effective, if you don't get too many poolspots of wash, which requires a little skill with the brush, it will look cool. If you have a rather darker grey basecoat the models might end up way too dark in the end. LoneSniperSG
I don't know about anyone else, but my method is as follows: -White Primer -Shadow Grey spraypaint -Fenris Grey wash Then when I get to that, I start the real painting: -1:1 mix of Space Wolves Grey and Shadow Grey I never liked the look of plain Space Wolves Grey (too bright) or plain Shadow Grey (too dark), so I mixed them and got, what I believe is the true Space Wolves armor color. Dewi Sant
I have just bought a compressor and airbrush for around £110 and its amazing! I have the GW Paint Gun and I wasn't that impressed so I thought I would give to a whirl. I can't believe a didn't get one sooner. Only today I have base-coated 2 Razorbacks 1 Whirlwind 1 Vindicator 6 LF's and 10 GH's, in about 25 mins and they will not require touching up with a brush. Also because it is so precise you don't waste any paint. I have even managed to re-coupe some of the costs as guys in my local games club were so impressed with the coverage and limitless colour options available they have been paying me to base-coat there stuff. The next step for me is learning to high light with it. Taeken
Just about to pick up an airbrush myself too. For the very same reasons. Looking to get the Master G23. Going to run it off my nailgun compressor. I will have to dial it down a bit tho :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198044-shadow-grey-spray-paint/#findComment-2364342 Share on other sites
