Death With Honour

He did not see the world around him.

No, everything around him was a very fine haze, like trying to stare through a fine haze or a thick film. He didn’t see his brothers fighting back to back around him, nor the chitinous tide that died in droves to reach them. He didn’t see anything but the five figures surrounding him, each glowing a pale white, as if they weren’t real.

And somewhere in his mind, he knew they didn’t exist. They were but memories – and either he would reunite with them or live on but know he had done great deeds. But all of this was not conscious thought – not anymore. The Canis Helix ruled his body and controlled his actions, but he did not resist this. He couldn’t, not anymore, not in the heat of battle.

His target was the only other thing visible amongst the haze and the only thing clear to his ears. It was huge, towering above the swarm like a living god. In each hand it held a long blade of chitin, and a long tail swept out behind it. With every movement the swarm moved with it like a part of a massive machine, as swift as the ocean waves.

The name did not reach conscious thought but still it came to mind.

Swarmlord.

It strode amongst the broods of Gaunts, unafraid of the firepower being levelled against it. And, like him, it had no fear of dying. It would fight because the Hivemind told it to, it would fight because that is what it was created to do.

And it would die because Kaw Bloodfang wished it to.

In that second he had seen it, his body was already in motion. He bounded forward on all fours like a Fernasian Wolf, literally driving his way through the mass of gaunts as if they were not there. They lunged to block his path but each was torn apart or smashed aside. Kaw was single mindedly determined to bring this creature down, and with it either see his pack mates again or fight on for them.

Finally the massive Tyrant turned to face the threat. Its black eyes stared at the crouching marine with no emotion. It would have frozen any man to the spot in sheer terror – who could hope to stand against this beast?

Kaw had no such worried or concerns. He sprang from a crouch straight for the creatures face with a howl. It reacted fast as lightning, one of the four blades catching him in the chest and sending him end over end to the floor with a yelp.

Instantly he was on his feet, ignoring the pain in his chest and the cleaved armour, leaping again, this time low and fast. The Tyranid struck down but Kaw darted aside with wolf speed and leapt straight up the Tyrants front, claws finding purchase on its exoskeleton, where he clung to.

The Tyrant snarled and bucked, nearly causing Kaw to fall off. But he would not. Instead he leapt past the creatures upper arm and landed on its back, spinning he sunk his claws into one of the Tyrants four arms.

It screeched and attempted to move its arm to reach him but could not, and slowly, with strength he didn’t know he possessed, Kaw dug his heels and pulled backwards as hard as he could.

There was a moment of resistance, before with a crack the arm fell limp by its side. The Tyranid howled in pain and bucked so violently that Kaw was flung to the floor again. The Swarmlord snarled in anger and moved forward, raising one massive hoof it brought it down...

And promptly found it stopped. The Wolfen caught the hoof in his hands and was fighting to hold it away from his head, snarling himself. The Tyrant pressed down harder, Kaw shaking now. His armour whined, when suddenly he pushed back with all he could.

The Tyrant was caught off balance and lost its footing for a split second. Kaw was on his feet and lunging with a howl towards its head.

And suddenly, he was hanging. He couldn’t feel anything, only numbness. The Wulfen looked down with a dumb expression as he found that a large blade was jammed through his chest, and he was sure it came out of his back. The Swarm Lord almost smiled as it brought the marine closer to its jaws, planning on ending the annoyance with a swift bite.

Fighting the pain, channelling all of his anger into a single strike and an earth shaking howl, the dying Lone Wolf thrust his fist forward with all the power he could muster-

Straight through the Swarm Lords left eye and into its brain. For a moment it stood motionless, as if not realising it had been killed. Then, slowly but surely, it toppled backwards and landed with a massive thump, the space marine splayed out on its chest, one fist imbedded into its eye socket up to the elbow, lifeless as the creature below him.

Kaw Bloodfang died that day on Veer, but he died bringing honour to his fallen pack mates, his Wolf Lord and his chapter. When his body was found and the reason for the sudden Tyranid withdrawal from battle realised, Irellius Bane held a great feast in his honour.

Forever will he be remembered.

:woot: I like that, a punch to the brain! Great!

Only crit I have, apart from a couple of spelling/typing/punctuation mistakes, is the second sentence:

"No, everything around him was a very fine haze, like trying to stare through a fine haze or a thick film."

You use "fine haze" twice in the same sentence, it somehow sounds bad. Try replacing the second one with something else, possibly something like this:

"No, everything around him was a very fine haze, like trying to stare through fog, or a thick film."

Will there be any more?

Thankyou! ;) I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

Oh, certainly, not of Kaw but of my Great Company that is for certain! I'm already in the process of working on a full-lentgh series :) (Which may also star my Traitor Warband, i am not sure yet :))

Thankyou again!
