SKeeM
OK so I played in a small tournament this weekend at my LGS. It was an 1850 event. There was under 20 players but had a good mix of armies. I took first place with my Black Templars and figured I would post a small battle report to help boost Templar morale :D My list: Emperors Champion w/accept any challenge. 7 Assault terminators 5 with claws and 2 with hammers. Landraider Crusader w/smoke launchers. 1 Venerable dread w/TLLC, extra armor, smoke launchers, heavy flamer and furious charge. 1 Dread w/TLLC, extra armor, heavy flamer and smoke launchers. 9 Crusaders w/power fist, melta gun. Rhino w/smoke launchers. 10 Crusaders w/power fist, melta gun and frag grenades. Rhino w/smoke launchers. 10 Crusaders w/power weapon, melta gun and frag grenades. Rhino w/smoke launchers. 1 Land speeder w/multi melta and heavy flamer. Game 1 was capture and control, pitch battle. I lost the roll off so he chose to go first. He had generic marines. His list: Libby w/jump pack. Chappy w/jump pack and melta bombs. 5 Stern guards with 3 combi melta. Drop pod. 2 x 10 man tact squads w/power fist, plasma gun and missile launcher in Razorbacks. 2 x 10 man assault squads w/power fist. 3 x Vindicators. This was a tough fight because the 3 vindicators were a real pain. By turn 3 all my vehicles were immobilized. Biggest note in this battle is that I made it all the way to his objective to only be pushed off by a failed RZ test in turn 5. Conclusion-Draw with 1 extra bonus point. Second game was against a Salamander list. It was kill points with spear head. I lost roll off again and he opted to have me deploy first. His list: Vulkan 5 Assault terminators all with hammers. Land raider Redeemer w/extra armor and multi melta. 2 Venerable dreads w/extra armor, heavy flamer. 1 had multi melta the other assault cannon. 3 x 10 man tact squads w/power fist, flamer and multi melta in Rhino’s with extra armor and hunter killer missiles and extra storm bolter. This list looked so much like mine after deployment almost mirrored. Again another tough fight. He had the anti tank advantage and I had the close combat advantage. This game went back and forth every turn with the kill points. In the end I won by 1 kill point after the EC and killed Vulkan in close combat. So now because of the 1 bonus point in game one I got to play the only guy that won both his games so far. We played dawn of war, seize ground with 3 objectives. He was playing Space Wolves and his list was: (I am not sure of the wolves spelling so bare with me) Logan Grammar- went in the Redeemer. Rune Priest with Jaws of the wolf and some shooting power that rolls a D 6 strength 7 attacks. This guy was just walking around by him self. 5 Terminators 3 w/power weapons and 2 with claws. Landraider Redeemer w/multi melta and extra armor. 2 Dreads with missile launchers. 1 with a TLLC the other with assault cannon. 5 Terminators with assault cannon/power fist, hammer and shield and 3 with power weapons. Land raider w/multi melta and extra armor. 5 Terminators with assault cannon/power fist, hammer and shield and 3 with power weapons. I won the roll off and made him deploy first and didn’t try to steel the initiative. This was the easiest game all day for me. I killed everything except the 2 dreadnoughts by turn 5 and only lost my regular dread. At that point I had what was left of a crusader squad in combat with the assault cannon dread. His Las dread was close by the fight but my Venerable dread was close on him. It was clear that his 2 dreads were going to die. This is the first time I ran this list and I was very happy with the way it played. I have played in a lot of events since January and the list I was running was not doing so well for me coming in mid to low tier. Things that I would like to change in this list are- Drop the lascannons from the dreads and put them in drop pods. They really didn’t kill anything in all 3 games. They never made into close combat with anyone. The best thing they did was kill the rune priest from long range in the last game. I am going to another tournament on the 24th that will have 40 players and I am going to bring this list with the changes and see how it goes. Well hope you guys enjoyed the small bat reps sorry I was not very detailed. marine77
Excellent! Can you give a short rundown on how each unit in your army did? I am currently experimenting with various builds and would love to know how you think your units did. Thanks. SKeeM
OK my EC is great as long as he can to the fight. Most of the time he does. Thats why I only run 1 HQ because he out performs all others. The assault terminator squad is beast they will kill anything but blood crushers with fate weaver near by. I bring 7 because I find with only 5 if you lose a few in the first fight the rest will get shot to death in the next turn. With 7 you put out more attacks and the squad wipes almost anything out in 1 round. If you have 4 or 5 left its hard for someone to kill 5 termies in one round of shooting. You either get into another assault next turn or hop back in the raider. Never have failed me. In one turnament they took out 2 Tyranofex's in 1 round of combat. Thats 12 T6 wounds After that they went and murdered a Prime and 5 warriors. Thats neast. The Dreads im still playing around with configs. I know no matter what im keeping them im just not sure how they will be best deployed. I wanted them to be my main anti tank weapons. But for that I should arm them with ML and TLLC. But they are so great when they get into CC I cant bring myself to put the ML arm on. Im going to try the drop pods next and see how that works. I have high hopes for them. The crusader squads are the best, the more the better. I dropped a 7 man terminator squad with 2 assault cannons for the 3rd crusader squad and I cant complain. I feel less stressed in my games with 3 troop choices and they will tear through most other squads. Watch out for Plague marines. The landspeeder really hasent done anything for my in terms of killing anything. But they are a great scare tactic. Anyone with a tank is scared of a speeder with a multi melta. Its 75 points and I dont expect anything from it. If it does kill something in a game thats great. But if I can just get the other guy to redeply some of his forces to counter it and then run it to the other side of the table and do it again, then im happy with it. Brother Loring
Excellent write-up Brother SKeeM! Congratulations on the result! Posted at an excellent time! Many of our brethren are losing heart! Couple of points... You mention an asscan dread surviving, but your list only has two las dreads. Is the second (non-ven) one supposed to be an asscan?? You say you were disappointed with the results of the lascannon. Have you thought of changing furious charge to tank-hunter? Other than MCs, most things that will hurt the dreads will attack at I1 (fists and hammers) and the added strength is a waste, so I don't find it worth the investment. A Tank-Hunting dread is very nice. Although I don't find it very 'templary', but a Tank-hunting TLLC/ML dead will be an excellent piece of fire-support. Even just a tank-hunting TLLC/DCCW will be pretty excellent. The twin-linked element gives and gives a >80% chance to hit and the Str 10 lascannon will make a significant difference. Auto-glancing rhinos and also provides much needed benefits when shooting at those pesky eldar vehicle with their'nothing greater than str 8' special rules. Keep us updated on the next tournie! And perhaps a force shot?? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198134-black-templars-win/#findComment-2360579 Share on other sites
SKeeM
The dread was his not mine. Now for the reason for furious charge. Just take a look at the 3 list I played againts. 4 Dreads are in there. Around here there are alot of daemon players and nid players and almos all marine players have dreads. I would rather see my dreads fighting in close combat then shooting. Thats why in thinking of podding them in for now on. Well I just scheduled a game for tomorrow to play test the pods. Ill let you know how it turns out. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198134-black-templars-win/#findComment-2360618 Share on other sites
Brother Loring
Cool, go with the pods, but make sure drop the lascannons, like you said. At high points games I think the MM would be most beneficial personally.
