Grey Knight

Recommended Posts

I wanted to have a go at non-metallic metal as my GW is having a painting competition in it and its definitely been a bit of a mixed bag. I wanted to paint something with a lot of metal and of different types and was lucky to find a grey knight on my table of unpainted rubbish that resides at my house.

The "silver" on the armour is horrible... What can I say other than I appologise for subjecting you to it :D But I have learnt from it and realised a number of errors that allowed me to do better on the gold and "chrome" on the blade.

Over all I am happy with what Ive learnt from the project and Im quite proud the the gold and chrome. I actually bought some more grey knights to give some more a go and try to improve.

Im happy with the base and thought the spent shell casings would make a nice link between it and the grey knight.

Any tips would always be appreciated from anyone that knows what they are doing with NMM and hope you enjoy him:

Very good for your first attempt, but you should consider on where the light is coming from, and how it falls on the armour. In a few spots its a bit funny. Another thing is that the transitions between shades are a bit rough, work on blending them a bit more. The SENMM on the blade looks pretty good. Your gold could do with a few more colours in it, maybe glaze it with purples in some spots. Green also can work. Look at real world gold objects and see how the light comes off it. Overall though good job.

Keep practicing. It's a great starting point and like all the previous comments, the halberd looks ace. NMM is a technique you really need devote a lot of time to getting it just right. You may want to find pictures of golden objects and see all the different colors in it. Your gold looks a little too yellow. Adding a couple layers of browns, reds, and oranges at different stages can really improve the depth. There actually are quite a few tutorials on the web that would be more helpful than I can be. I would love to see what you could do with just a little more practice.
