well be back and sweeping advance

This came up in the last game i played. Do models layed down waiting on wwb rolls get picked up as well if the still standing ones get caught in a sweeping advance? We have been debating whether the wording of the codex means that they are not part of the unit because they are laying down or if they are still considered part of the original unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They do if there are no other Necron models of the same type within We'll Be Back distance, as they need that to get up in the first place.

Otherwise, "Damaged Necrons ignore the normal coherency rules and cannot be attacked in any way - they are seen as just more battlefield debris." At the base argument, since they do not follow coherency rules then they are part of no unit; thus they wouldn't be destroyed in a sweeping advance. Additionally, since they just join any unit they are close to when getting back up, this again reinforces the idea they are not in any unit until they stand again.

and with the wording of sweeping advance, the necrons caught in the sweeping advance dont get wbb because it doesnt say they are removed as causalties, it just says they are destroyed. correct?

Correct. Sweeping advance ignores We'll Be Back. That is why it is so effective against Necrons.

As a simple rule of thumb, Necron casualties need a standing model of the same type within six inches to use their WBB ability. Otherwise they are removed once the squad is wiped.
