Jarakin
I'm in absolute awe of your conversion work, especially with the winged chaplain and I love your more recent sternguard marines - I've always wondered what a squad would look like with black shoulderpads rather than just the trim. I've been toying with the idea of doing this for my standard Tactical squad, but the little voice in my head keeps telling me to stick to codex colours! Lorenzen
thanks for the kind words, i like the way the black pads have come out.. though i had to make all the modelled icons gold, the yellow just looked way too cartoony for the rest of the models.. the majority of the converting done on this lot is just "good use of bits" and taking a bit of time assembling it all.. got a shot of the top hatch, as its coming along nicely now. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00124.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198377-blood-angels-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-2410392 Share on other sites
Blindhamster
all looking good mate, i especially like the rhino (consider the idea stolen) and the priest, he has an excellent pose :D something not quite right about the red for me, but i reckon thats picture quality not the actual painting! again kudos Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198377-blood-angels-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-2410409 Share on other sites

Lorenzen
Blind - cheers dude, i do it on most of my rhinos.. started with the templars and got addicted, soon you shall too! got 3 others to do, using the 3 banners from the dex and then either making another sanguinius one up or making a more chaplainy one for his ride. which red do you mean? the red on the sternguard or on the tank.. or both?? oh blind you criptic man you! (you need to come down to the club on thursday.. seriously!) thanks for the nice comment sar mikael, im hoping to get the hatch done by the end of the week.. been building boards for my local club though instead of doing my own work! >.> Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198377-blood-angels-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-2412148 Share on other sites

Lorenzen
ahoy! its update time again.. ive got the base coat done on all the infantry in my 1500 pts done so far.. but thats somewhat boring to look at.. so instead i have a new conversion to show you all. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00127.jpg he is to be used in a campaign as captain machiavi the successor of tycho to all those that arent aware.. the beginning of this thread shows my original version which was to use tycho's rules, but ive decided to base him off've a normal captain with a few campaign specific rules ie "something to prove" and a unique weapon. ive taken some inspiration from blindhamsters tycho conversion/ the art in the codex, because i like the idea of him being "almost tycho, but not quite" as far as how his company currently sees him. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00132.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00131.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00135.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00134.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00133.jpg added in his honour guard as well, they still need bits and bobs done to them.. but theyre getting there. c&c welcome as per usual. Lorenzen
had a bit of a disaster with the army.. none of my squads red matched up properly.. so i had to dunk the army in a tub of cillit bang and start again. this time round ive batch painted up the base red on every infantry model in the army so they all match this time.. also managed to find a shop that sells vallejo paints in birmingham town centre (ian allans) and decided to bite the bullet and try em out. am happy i did as i prefer them to the gw paints.. anyway enough talking from me for now.. heres a pretty picture http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00187.jpg these are the 1st three models done with the new paints & newer method.. theyre a darker red and im able to finish them quite quickly which is a bonus as i have a short attention span at the best of times. c&c welcome and encouraged as per usual. Obliterator
That's some really nice conversions right there mate! I really like the pose of your captain Machiavi, he's got the looks and 'air' of a real Blood Angel, and the pose is nice and natural. Seeing your painted test models, I know your painting will do the model honor as well :( Some really nice work on that honor guard too. 3 thumbs up! Blindhamster
looking awsome mate, the reds rather nice, bit dark for me, but i love my ferrari red Blood angels, regardless of that, they're painted to a lovely standard, kudos! the honour guard are sexy :P especially love the last one with the sword and shield, expect that idea stolen :thanks: as for your retake on the captain... awsome, truelly awsome, that axe is great, the pose is great, the sculpted bits are subtle and by extension great :) able to give a few more angles on him? I can't wait to see him painted. p.s. I held my tycho up to the screen, I think the slightly similar pose rocks, imagine if they ever met, I reckon Tycho would be proud *nods* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198377-blood-angels-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-2432828 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
just for you blind... http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00128.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00129.jpg the head is a standard sanguinary guard head with the bowl cut shaved off and greenstuffed hair.. theres a little while before he gets painted up though.. the sternguard must be finished as a priority! the guy with the sword i like too, the rest of the honour guard is calm and composed.. in contrast to him leaping at the enemy.. almost like the rage is starting to affect him. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198377-blood-angels-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-2432886 Share on other sites

Denrik Greymane
I loved the look of your JP Chaplain...what happened to him? The black of the wings made him look very commanding. Lorenzen
this is the current state of machiavi paint wise. his face is the only bit that is done, was playing about with a few subtler methods of doing things on him than i normally do with skin.. hopefully you'll approve http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00196.jpg finished another one of the sternguard also.. 4/8 done and no disasters so far! (well bar one of my paints exploding.. but no models were harmed so thats fine) http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00197.jpg and then a group shot http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00199.jpg the jump chaplain isnt in my current 3k list, so has been shelved for now, he will be seeing paint though at some stage, as im trying to do one unit, then one "fancy thing" after to keep me interested. GlauG
Latecomer to the party here, my personal favourite so far is your Jump Chaplain. He looks so fantastically menacing. Lorenzen
ah the jump chaplain.. the bane of all my other models of late :) after he fell off my desk he essentially got destroyed.. however i did rebuild him, i was just hoping if i didnt really mention him people would get distracted by the other models and comment on them instead.. but ill bend to the will of my peers.. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00212.jpg not the best pic in the world, but it shows the updated version.. bigger wings (thanks to astorath) and a pointy finger instead of his karate chop hand. now onto the models ill actually be using! http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00205.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00209.jpg numbers 5 & 6 of the sternguard finished so far 6 was the model that hadnt been featured in the older pictures. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00210.jpg and theres a group shot of the finished guys so far.. looking quite snazzy if i do say so myself! Midnightmare
Wow these are looking great, coming along really well and great posing all round, Capt Machiavi (MKII) is my fave - I am going to have to have ago at his hair. Lorenzen
7/8 done now.. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00217.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00214.jpg he could possibly do with a bit more shading in places.. and i need 2 touch up his boltgun as he has a random red bit on it, but for the time being im happy with him, he fits in with the rest of the unit nicely. the last model is about 50% done, then we can get back on track with the reclusiarch and the tank.. before its time for infantry squad number 2. good times! Lorenzen
update time! ive been playing about with machiavi and decided i wanted to be able to field him as tycho still.. so now he has a magnetized right arm! http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00262.jpg finished the sternguard squad also.. final member http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00263.jpg and then the group shot http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00264.jpg mach still needs work done to him.. but i like him too much so hes getting more air time :) and then we have secret project no. 18762.3 aka my hopefull golden daemon entry for this year.. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00261.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00260.jpg decided to keep it in the family (somewhat) and go for mr gabriel seth.. the pictures arent amazing, but ive been messing about with glazing for this model, quite like the technique, clearly im not as good at it as say.. lunchbox, but hes had more practise ;) either way im happy with the results so far, and am aiming for 1st cut. dlfleetw
Nice work on the army as a whole and on the conversion work. For the GD entry, why a stock model? You've proven to have solid Conversion skills, why enter something that is bone stock or close to it? In todays painting climate, a well painted bone stock model may well get passed over to slightly less well painted model with good conversion work. Keep on paintin' either way. Lorenzen
its my first year entering, and i want to see how far i can get with just painting alone. my sculpting isnt yet at the stage where id be comfortable entering something especially with only a few months to prepare an entry for this years competition. you can expect some over the top projet from me for next year though.. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198377-blood-angels-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-2452815 Share on other sites
Terminatorinhell
Man, this is some good stuff, machiavi is looking sharp and your subtle conversions make the sanguinary guard look that much cooler! Lorenzen
took a break from the blood angels for a bit because i was having so much colour matching things that i was beginning to hate them.. so im starting a new and at a higher quality. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00287.jpg decided to make them a more vibrant red, without using the standard bright orangey look.. instead ive gone for a much darker look.. hes clearly not finished, but im already much happier with the result.
