Another Win for the Templars

OK so I got another game in today against a Chaos Marine player. We decided to use a mission sheet from last years Ard Boyz. We rolled a D3 and ended up with seize ground with 5 objectives with kill points and 4 modifiers. Pitch battle deployment, 6 turns. I used the same list I used in this past weekends tournament. I had wanted to put my dreads in drop pods to experiment for a tournament next week at the Brothers Grim out in Long Island, NY. But I relies I will never get 2 drop pods painted by then so ill stick with the list I have now.

My list:

Emperors Champion w/accept any challenge.

7 Assault terminators 5 with claws and 2 with hammers.

Landraider Crusader w/smoke launchers.

1 Venerable dread w/TLLC, extra armor, smoke launchers, heavy flamer and furious charge.

1 Dread w/TLLC, extra armor, heavy flamer and smoke launchers.

9 Crusaders w/power fist, melta gun.

Rhino w/smoke launchers.

10 Crusaders w/power fist, melta gun and frag grenades.

Rhino w/smoke launchers.

10 Crusaders w/power weapon, melta gun and frag grenades.

Rhino w/smoke launchers.

1 Land speeder w/multi melta and heavy flamer.

His list:

Huron Blackheart

5 Chaos chosen w/3 melta guns and 2 flamers.

5 Chaos chosen w/3 flamers and 2 melta guns.

3 x 10 Chaos space marines’ w/powerfist, icon, 2 plasma guns in rhino transports.

2 x 5 Havoc troopers’ w/4 heavy bolters and rhino transports.

We played with 6 ruined city terrain pieces that were 1’x1’.

He won the roll off (wow what a shock) and chose to deploy first.

He deployed his Havoc’s in a building in the center of his deployment zone with good fields of fire all around and sitting on an objective. 4 rhinos to the right and 3 to the left. Each squad of Chosen marines jumped in one of the Havoc’s rhinos and Blackheart joined the one on the right.

I set my landraider, rhino w/fist venerable dread and landspeeder across from his 4 rhinos with Blackheart and my other 2 rhinos with the EC and my other dread across from his 3 rhinos. I didn’t want to steal the initiative, I figured let him come to me.

At this point all was looking good for me, so I thought. First turn he ran all his rhinos forward 12 inches, jumped on 2 objectives and popped smoke and tried to hurt my rhinos with his heavy bolters. Nothing. I did the same thing as him and now we had all our rhinos within 1 inch of ach other. I fired my 2 TLLC and 2 multi meltas to no effect.

In turn 2 his shooting was better and he destroyed my rhino with the power weapon and immobilized the EC’s rhino and kills my speeder. At this point he has 2 objectives secure, 1 contested and he is up 2 kill points. But I have faith! The EC and his squad get out and move on the rhino with the Chosen marines in it, power weapon squad move on the rhino that destroyed theirs. And my fist squad gets out and moves on another rhino with the venerable dread. After all the shooting is done all I killed was 1 rhino by the venerable dread. In the assault phase my venerable dread and the fist squad wipe out the squad the spilled from the rhino. The EC, squad and dread kill the Chosen Marines rhino and the power weapon squad gets a shaken on the other rhino.

Turn 3. Now things start to look really bad because I have all my crusaders out in the open and he has boat loads of guns pointed at me. But I have faith! The EC and squad get hit with 3 flamers causing 27 hits, 2 melta guns and 2 rapid firing plasma guns and 8 heavy bolters. OUCH! The EC and powerfist live. The powerweapon squad loses two to bolt pistol fire and Huron Blackheart gets out of his rhino to fight my powerfist squad with the help of to rapid firing plasma guns and the heavy flamers and melta guns from the 2 squads there. I lose 4 from the fist squad. In the assault phase Huron dies after killing 2 to the fist and I consolidate back towards my rhino. My power weapon squad ties for combat. The EC kills 3 Chosen and takes 1 wound and the fist dies. Now its 5 kill points to 3 in my favor but he has 1 objective secured. In my turn I jump the survivors from the fist squad in the rhino and move on an objective. Move my venerable dread closer to his rhinos, my other dread moves in to help the power weapon squad. In the assault phase he joins the fight and kills the last Marine in turn 6. The crusader squad dies in turn 5. The EC finishes off the Chosen squad by dies to a hail of fire from the havocs and the Marines in the rhino on the objective. They jumped out of there rhino to make sure they killed him. LOL!

OK so in the end my melta gunner from the fist squad popped the rhino by them and the dread killed the whole squad. The Chosen Marines that were with Blackheart got out of their rhino and tried to kill the landraider only to be chopped to little itty bitty pieces by the assault terminators. Now this is big, the venerable dread was able to consolidate 5 inches, move 6 and assault 6 inches into the last squad that had stretched across two objectives. Win combat by 3, they lose there leadership test and roll a 3 to my 6 on the imitative test. Wipe out! I win with a massacre result. 11 kill points to 5 with more objectives(1). And 1 bonus point for killing all of his troop choices.

Excellent. It occurs to me that perhaps you disembarked a bit too soon with your crusader squads and too late with your terminators. Do you think so? In my army, I think of my crusader squads as pure gold since they alone can claim objectives. The terminators are meant to kill things, so the sooner that they can assault the better.
