arisen
I'm wondering whether to just buy wolf pack boxes or a battleforce. I already have 10 scout models lying around, so now it's just the drop pod that would be extra in the battleforce, and I don't know just how useful they would be in a SW army. So advice me on the best course of action, my brethren ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198400-drop-pod/ Share on other sites
S. Bloodhowl
They're awesome! The only things in my army without them are the wolf scouts and grey hunters (WS-come in from behind, GH-mobile fire base). What I do is be really sneaky and hide them so my opponent doesn't know i have them :cuss But yeah, if you want to get to the enemy fast use, they aint so good against nids though, you tend to die fast then... sazzer
For my full-out army list (that will most likely take several years to finish, the speed I go) I'm planning on having all my blood claws with drop pods and all my grey hunters with rhinos - deliver the blood claws to the enemy as soon as possible, and have the grey hunters come in to finish things off as necessary. The long fangs have a razorback but are most likely to spend the game sat near the back with the long ranged guns instead of moving around anyway... Scouts don't need a transport as they (hopefully) don't need to cross the battlefield all that much... jjfelber
I use three. So two drop first turn, and the third isn't on the table so won't be shot at until I've done some crowd control. My current list uses 2 Venerable Dreads and a WG unit in DPs. Depending on what I am up against I send both Dreads with Multi-Meltas down first to pop some tanks or put some pressure on the battle field to force the enemy to move the direction I want. Venerables are damn hard to kill and a can easily tear through Vindicators / Basilisks which makes them very scary to have milling around your flanks. Alternativly If I feel I can get the right cover. I will drop my 6 man squad of WG. 2 in PA, 3 in TDA, and Arjac. 2 Combi Meltas, 2 Thunder Hammers, 2 Wolf Claws, 1 Power Fist, 2 SS, 2 Heavy Flamers, 1 Frost Blade. This unit is a Fix all unit. Just the Other day a unit of 10 Eldar with an HQ rolled up my flank and disambarked. I dropped the Pod right near them. 2 Hvy Flamers killed them all and stunned the skimmer. 2 Rune Priest, 2 units of LF, and 2 Ven Dreads in DPs, begin most games quite admirably. JEFF4i
They are beautiful! Have 4 at the moment, want 4 more. Properly used, a drop pod assault is not only fun, but devestating. lunchb0x
I like to use them to slow my opponent down...wall -0- drop pods...or to drump right on top of objectives. :) You can , if lucky, completely have your opponent away from the objective...1" away from enemy model + base of drop pod = no scoring unit. Though if its a large objective, you can not. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198400-drop-pod/#findComment-2364388 Share on other sites
calgar101
Get the Battle force any ways, you save about £20 i think.. I use 5 drop pods, 3 coming down im turn 1, 3 GH all with 2 plasma guns. Rapid firing bolters and plasma guns in the enemies face hurts, if im charged who cares i get like 20-30 attacks if i pass my leadership! Then turn two onward my Dreadnaughts drop in and enjoy the show, quite a few players who i have used this on dont know what to do. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/198400-drop-pod/#findComment-2364402 Share on other sites
Silverwolf
At the end of the day, if you don't want them, someone else will so they wouldn't be a problem to sell on seperately as sprues. Infact you'd probably find it'll make the purchasing of your Grey Hunters / Blood Claws even cheaper that way :). I'm saving up to buy 3 Battleforce boxes at the moment, from those 3 I'm keeping everything but two of the scout groups, which I'll probably sell to one of the guys at the local store who runs a Astartes Scout army.
