Razorback

Like Grey Mage says you have to make your opponent decide what he wants to deal with first. I have my Landraider (as a transport), Dakka Predators, and Dred headed toward the middle of the board. While I have my Razorbacks shooting as support. I tend to get a few turns of shooting from my Razorbacks since I have 7 other vehicles on the board as well.

Rex

Here's some pics of the tank undercoated and ready to be painted.

Bit of background. Long story short: i loved the background to Space Wolves when i first read them in the early 90's. I got back into gaming in 2003ish, but at the time my local club already had several people with wolf armies. I started to collect Raven Guard, but then put the SM models aside that i had already bought, and started collecting Daemon Hunters. I took a break for a few years, and with the 2008 release of the SM codex i started playing RG again. Only thing is, i find it difficult to build a truly solid fluffy RG list. When i found out Wolves were getting a new codex, i set my sight on making a few lists that were as competitive as possible. Only hic-up to this, is that im a stay at home dad with 2 kids, so finances arnt as free flowing as i would like

So to that end, my wife 'let me' (isnt she grand? :D) buy everything i needed to make a list to play competitive games. She helped me work out a budget, and i set to stretching that as far as possible :P

Sooo... this tank is actually an old Rhino given to me by an old friend. It used to be painted in a White Scars theme, and was missing one of the headlights. I replaced that with a searchlight, covered with wolf's head (from one of the old wolf skin capes) and some green stuff fur.

As i explained above, i wanted to mount the gun at the front, to get the most range possible from the plasma guns. I can detail how i made it if anyone wants to know.

As to how to use them, the above advice is spot on. In a 1200 point game, i deploy 2 Rhino's, 2 Razorbacks, a 5 man bike squad (that includes a melta attack bike and wolf priest) and 6 Long Fangs. If i don't have first turn, it doesn't really worry me what my opponent focus's his AT on, i have plenty enough punch left in me when he's done ;)

The standing philosophy I know of at my local game store is, "If it's one more target to shoot at..."

As far as what I use, I don't have the models for it currently, but LF's backed up by LC/TLPG Razorbacks ought to really make them more likely to survive troops. Not moving them and getting 2 or 3 AP 2 shots off would be a real plus.

As far as conversions go, haven't had the chance to do any yet, but the PG option from the PA Wolf Pack bits seem likely to me, next to a Lascannon. The only real concern I'd wager having is that the weapon mount may not be big enough on the LC to mount two PG, and the PP may make more sense. I have an un-assembled Rhino or Razorback lying around, I'll have to try this. And eventually post pics...

I use LC+TLPG on one of my razorbacks...just got my hands on an old razorback, binned everything except the turret, and just made a little conversion (mainly filing and pinning) to make it fit on the new rhino chassis, im pleased with the end result...looks mean.

I use 3 Las/Plas backs along with three rhinos for a decent armored target saturation:

-If they shoot at my razorbacks then my two WL are going to wreck face along with my three GH squads

-If they shoot at my two WL they they are ignoring my razorbacks and GH rhinos

-If they go for the Rhinos..........You get the picture

Here's how I modeled my TLPlas/Las. Cut the two cannons off and trimmed out mounting points, glued the lascannon in the center and then trimmed up two plasma guns and mounted them on either side.
